| The
Fall Prospects:
UPN (Friday,
March
15, 2002)
The
UPN is indesputably
in the best shape of all the networks. With only 10 hours of
programming
a week to fill, there's not much to do. So this will be short, but sweet
Already
Renewed:
The Parkers, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Enterprise
Sure to be
renewed:
Girlfriends, One on One
Not Yet
Renewed:
The Hughleys
Their Fates:
With "The Hughleys," it could go either way. The net will be going into
its fifth season, which usually means a huge increase in liscensing
fees.
WIth ratings good, but not great, it could be a goner.
Mondays: If
"The Hughleys" does not come back, "One on One," the night's strongest
series, will probably move up to 8pm and the night won't miss a beat.
Tuesdays: Besides
finding a good show for 9pm, things are good on this night. If "Angel"
leaves the WB, it will wind up here.
Wednesdays: Same
story as Tuesday.
Thursdays: The
UPN will likely dump "WWF Smackdown!" and bring back the fan favorites
"Gary & Mike" and "Shasta." LOL.
Fridays: The
UPN has had problems in previous seasons trying to launch dramas on
this
night. Ad with the movie doing so well (a few weeks ago, the flick drew
4.5mil viewers- a record), nothing is likely to change.
Sundays: If
the UPN wants to grow as a net, it may want to consider expanding out
to
Sundays. With its parent CBS taking over the net slowly but surely,
anything
could go here. "The Amazing Race 3?"
Repeats
of
"Raymond" or "King of Queens?" The possibilites are endless.
