The New Season
You may think it's a bit early to be talking about next season, but not me. with the next ordering new pilots every other day, the fall line-up are starting to take shape. I'm going to run down what I tihnk will happen and make some fearless predictions, with nothing guaranteed.

What's Already Renewed:  Survivor, Two & A Half Men, Cold Case, Navy NCIS, Joan Of Arcadia

To Be Expected: King Of Queens, Yes, Dear, Everybody Loves Raymond, JAG, Judging Amy, CSI, The District, CSI Miami, Without A Trace, Still Standing, 60 Minutes, 60 Minutes II, Sunday Night Movie, 48 Hours Investigates

Who Knows?: The Guardian, Star Search, Century City, The Stones

Good As Gone: Hack

Monday: CBS would be smart to stick to the script here, but the 8pm hour is weak. Shoring it up is easy, move the family friendly "Raymond" up an hour, should it come back. "Two & A Half Men," as bland is it might be, is obviously CBS's new comedy franchise and has frequently build on "Ray"s demo lead-in. Follow that up with a new comedy, and possibly a new comedy at 8:30pm.

Tuesday: "The Guardian" is not looking really safe for next season, and it is CBS's weak-link on the night. would CBS be as bold to move in "CSI New York" ? Maybe..... but if the new "Century City" does well this spring, it could be back in the slot.

Wednesday: AFor a long time now CBS has been looking for a second night of sitcoms. And Wednesday might just prove to be it. "King of Queens" is doing very well at 9pm, and I see no reason why CBS wouldn't try to open up the 8pm hour to sitcoms. So why not the already establing Monday pair "Still Standing" and "Yes, Dear." They're never going to be mega-hits, but they do have enough appeal with families to draw solid numbers. As for 10pm, "48 Hours" is an okay performer, but CBS might be very well thinking of "CSI New York."

Thursday: Nothing at all wrong here.

Friday: 8-10pm is fine, but some is lacking at 10pm. It could prove to be an okay slot for "60 Minutes II," or maybe bump the 8-10pm dramas up an hour. Just an idea. I do highly doubt, however, that the new "CSI" will be a go for the night.

Saturday: The best night to use "CSI New York" ? You're looking at it. The nets have given up Saturdays for dead, but collectively, they're only getting a 30-35 share each week. There's still lots of viewers out there. If you give them something to watch, they will come. That said, "CSI" at 9pm and then a new drama at 10pm, and maybe "The District" at 8pm. It may sound foolish, but CBS owned this night with dramas up until a few years ago. This is the weakest night on the schedule and if CBS wants to see further gains next season, fixing this night is a must.

Sundays: Finally, Sundays is working for the network. As long as it has appealing movie titles, this night should only get stronger next season.

What's Already Renewed:  That 70s Show, King of The Hill, The Simpsons, The Simple Life

To Be Expected: 24, Malcolm In The Middle, American Idol, The OC, Obnoxious Fiance

Who Knows?:  Bernie Mack, Wonderfalls, Cracking Up, Playing It Straight

Good As Gone: Boston Public, Tru Calling, Oliver Beene, Forever Eden

Monday: Fox will mostly likely try to strike gold twice with "Fiance 2" starting in late November, but who knows? As for the 8pm hour, it's time to find a viable drama, Fox.

Tuesday: Before "Idol" comes back, 8pm will most likely be a mess, while "24" will be at home at 8pm. Fox could logically move the aging "Malcolm" into the hour and follow it up with a new sitcom or the second edition of "The Simple Life."

Wednesday: The only question here is what will get burned off at 8:30pm until "Idol" comes back.

Thursday: This night is an absolute mess for the network and nothing is working. That said, movies and specials are a logical move.

Friday: Fridays are another mess and Fox really need to brand itself here. Maybe a night of sitcoms would work, starting with "Bernie Mack" One thing is clear, dramas are not working.

Saturday: Fox's only solid night.

Sundays: New shows at 7:30 and 8:30 followed by a strong drama at 9pm. maybe "24" would work....
