Mid
Season Preview Part
1
As the nets look towards
mid-season,
so am I. with falling ratings and utterly frustrating results from the
fall, the next few editions of tv talk will examine just how each
network
is planning on coming back in the spring.

How The Fall Went: The
fall went pretty damn well for CBS- nobody can dispute that. It was the
only network to end the half-year with viewer gains. Nearly every night
is working.
What's On Tap:
CBS
is pretty much staying the course, but it will try to perfect it's
line-up.
This is what it's got and where it's going (or is likely to go)
Star
Search:
CBS calls this show a great utility player- nothing to
bet the house
on, but good to stick in tough slots. And it will. Saturday at 8pm is
the
new home for this series. It's unknown if there will be additional
airings,
but Thursdays at 8pm is likely until "Survivor" comes back.
The Amazing
Race 5: As
you probably know, this is the one I'm waiting for. CBS hasn't
shceduled
it yet, and it probably doesn't need to. Most likely it'll be saved for
the summer. The Amazing Race every summer? Now that's something I can
live
with. Watch this show already!
Survivor
All Stars: Going
up against the last few episodes of "Friends" will be tough, but if any
show can do it, it's this one. Thursday at 8pm starting in February.
The Stones:
This
bland looking new comedy, which was benched before the season started,
will move to Wednesdays at 9:30pm starting soon.
What Gets Left
Behind: Becker,
but that was expected. Other than that, nothing is going on "hiatus."
CBS
is having an awesome season- think about it, the only new show that has
been benched was "The Brotherhood," although "The Handler" doesn't look
long for the world.
The
Prognoisis: CBS
will be number one at the end of the season in viewers, adults 25-54
and
maybe even adults 18-49. Thanks to patience and long term thinking (ie-
not overdoing reality), it's the only network with a certain bright
future.

How The Fall
Went: Besides
baseball, it was a bad fall. A very, very bad fall. Then along came
"The
Simple Life."
What's On Tap:
Fox's
winter/spring line-up will be doing some heavy duty changing. Most
nights
will see big changes.
American
Idol: Need
I go through this one? Tuesdays at 8pm and Wednesday at 8:30pm.
New Video
Series: Two
bland new voyeurisitic video series are going in on Fridays. Sadly
enough,
these are the only Friday series Fox ever has any luck with.
Oliver Beene:
GAfter
an extremely short first season, this one comes back in late January to
Sundays at 7pm, only to be canned at the end of the season.
Others: Fox
has a number of pilots and short order series ready to go for the
spring,
but where they'll end up is anybody's guess.
What Gets Left
Behind: Oh,
where to start. Cedric The Entertainer. Stan Hooper. Boston Public
(more
than likely). Arrested Development (which I think will be taken off the
air during sweeps).
The
Prognoisis: American
Idol is far to strong for Fox to botch it, but there are still too many
question marks. Like Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and a much weaker
Sunday
than expected.
Got some ideas of
your own? Talk about
it on the message
board!
