Shoud Get An "Honour"
Since everybody and their dogs are writing columns these days about who should get nominated for emmy's, I suppose it's time for me to jump on that bandwagon too. But mine will be nominee hopefuls with a twist- I'm only listing actors from series I actually watch. So there will be no "Six Feet Under," no "Sex And The City." And check out the new categories. It's worth a quick read Outstanding Comedy Series
These shows, which I all watch religiously, are truly among the best of the sitcom crop of tv. Though "Friends," "Malcolm" and "King" aren't in the same league as the "Raymond" and "Scrubs" by a long shot, they're all good for a laugh. Who would I like to see win it? "Raymond," of course. This will probably be the last chance, and "Scrubs" has so many more years. Outstanding Drama Series
I watch so few dramas that this was the only list I could come up with. I a few episodes of "CSI," it was always interesting, with alot of neat twists. I saw the last half of an episode of "Alias," it looked kinda groovy. I watched two episodes of "CI" when I was in Mexico, and it was pretty damn good, especially the offbeat performance by Vincent D'Onofrio. As for "SVU;" no, it may not always be the best series, but it's quite inventive when it comes to storylines. The winner? ABC's peerless "Once & Again." To those not convinced of the sheer grace and beauty of this series, you only have to watch the last season episode where Karen slowly slips back into depression and is subsequently struck by a car. It was the most breathtaking episode of anything I have ever watched on television, bar none. At the end of the episode, Karen, in one of those "talking to the camera" scenes, lay naked on the floor (with proper shadowing), describing the three things she loved most in life. While on almost every other show in the universe, this "naked" scene would have been hyped for ratings, ultimately drawing protests and boycots. But on "Once," it seemed so natural that the lack of clothes was not even a question. It was simply the most beautiful thing I've ever seen on television, and it's so rare that anything even fits into that category anymore. Tomorrow (sorry, off to work, no time to type now) My picks for best actor/actress, supporting actor/actress. Coming later on: Summer ratings: prelude to the real season.
