Monday

8:00pm
Remember when Monday at 8pm used to be an hour of generally solid ratings? Even just last year when "Fear Factor" was still at the top of it's game? Well, not so this season. "Fear Factor" did win the timeslot (41st  in viewers,  32nd  in adults), but was down a quarter in the ratings. Why? No particular reason- nothing else in the timeslot really broke out. CBS was down with "Still Standing" (47, 63) and "Listen Up" (51, 70), while Fox found some late season success with "Nanny 911" (69, 49), despite airing a plethora of crap early on, including the dud "The Swan." ABC started the season deadly with "The Benefactor," and recovered somewhat with the cheap "How'd They Do That?" (75, 77) but was not competitive in the least. Over on the WB, "7th Heaven" (118, 129) was basically flat over last season, while the UPN aired "One On One" (158, 155)  and "Cuts" (158, 161) and "Half & Half" to diminishing returns. All of this proves one thing: this time slot is wide open and one could show could hit it big. Will it? Stay tuned....

9:00pm
9pm was alot more competitive than 8pm, but the basic order did not change at all from last season. Even though there were only 16 new episodes of "Raymond" (10, 16), they were still enough to take the timeslot, and "Two & A Half Men" at 9:30pm (11, 17) did even better than last season, raking up a solid win in the hour. Fox was second in the winter with a surging "24" (27, 23), which managed to move to a new night and still grab its best ratings ever, despite not having an "Idol" lead-in, and that just about cancelled out disasterous spring ratings from, again, a plethora or crap reality series. NBC was a solid third with "Las Vegas" (32, 29), which managed to come out even on the season despite a much weaker lead-in, while ABC was typically strong in the fall with football (12, 12), but weak in the winter with "The Bachelorette" (63, 40) and "The Bachelor" (73, 56). Despite ever declining ratings for the franchise, it was still a solid improvement over ABC's numbers in the timeslot last season. Over on the WB, a lack of repeats helped "Everwood" (136, 142) to curtail viewer erosion, while "Summerland" (156, 155) stepped in to middling numbers in the winter, while the UPN went with the always solid "Girlfriends" (149, 143) and "Half & Half" (155, 152), despite a misstep with "Second Time Around" (160, 155) early in the season.

10:00pm
Outside of football, early in the season nobody could catch "CSI Miami" (7, 10) which showed even more growth in its third season, especially NBC, which flailed with "LAX" (102, 98) and "The $25 Million Hoax" (80, 53). All of that changed in the winter with the premiere of "Medium" (19, 18), and although it could not beat CBS, it certainly put a dent in its ratings and gave NBC its best numbers in the slot in several years. ABC's "Supernanny" (55, 46), meanwhile, was solid if not spectacular alternative.
