Chapter 1:
Setting:Inside Theresa's Bedroom.
Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald lay on her bed staring at her Ethan filled walls. She was desperatley trying to gather the courage to confess her evil deeds. But her love for Ethan was so strong, she couldn't imagine a life without him. She knew all the things she had done were wrong, but they were acts of passion on her part. She realized now, that she was only hurting herself. Gwen had had won, she was right all along. There was no boyfriend, only a lonley girl, pining away for her lost love. She had made up her mind. That night she was going to do it. Tell Ethan and Gwen the truth! She had no idea how she was going to get through it, but the lies were too much.
Hesitantley Theresa picked up the phone, and began to dial Ethan's number. All she could picture as she dialed, was Gwen's smug smile, and Ethan's hurt expression. Her finger stopped in mid air, and her eyes widened with shock. She had had a brainstorm! She knew how to stop the lies without actually confessing her crimes! Theresa hung up the phone and re dialed. Her heart was racing, and a triumphant smile crossed her lips.
"Hello?"
"Whit, I've done it! I've finally come up with the one plan to get me into Ethan's arms."
Setting: Sheridan's Cottage
Sheridan tried to soothe her trembling hands with a cup of hot tea. The rage was still bubbling within her.
How could Luis think that I would help to bring down my own family? Even though I don't agree with the kinds of things that Father and Julian do, they are the only family that I have. I thought Luis had finally gotten over his vendetta against the Cranes.
Sheridan felt the bile rising in her throat, anger renewed her strength.
"Damnitt! Why did he have to be like all the others?" Against her will, tears sprang to her blue eyes. She wasn't supposed to feel this way. He wasn't supposed to mean anything to her. She shouldn't have let him get to her, he hurt her like all the other men in her life had. Her sorrow and rage was too much to control. Imagining that Luis was standing at the front door, Sheridan hurled the tea cup, and it smashed into a hundred pieces. She choked back a sob, and bitterly wiped the tears from her face.
A knock at the door, drew her back to the present. She sniffled and plopped onto the couch.
"Whoever's there, I'm not in the mood for company, so leave me alone!" The figure at the door knocked again, more insistantley. "Don't you understand the words coming from my mouth? Leave me the HELL ALONE!!!"
Silence filled the air, and just when Sheridan thought the person had gone, the door opened, and in stepped Luis. Sheridan rolled eyes and jumped to her feet.
"Okay, I'm going to tell you for the last time. LEAVE ME ALONE!! You are the last person in the world that I want to see right now." Luis nodded and looked down at the floor.
"I can understand that." He replied. But instead of turning to leave he lessened the distance between them. "I didn't come here to ask you for your assistance, I came to apologize." Sheridan scoffed in disgust.
"I don't want your apology or your sympathy, I just want you to leave. Haven't you caused enough damage for one evening?" Luis shook his head.
"I can't leave here until you listen to me." Sheridan ran her trembling fingers through her hair and tried to swallow the tears that were about to flow.
"Look Luis, you can't take back what happened tonight with an apology. I thought you were different. I thought I had finally found someone that wouldn't use me, obviously I was sorely mistaken. You're just like any other man I've ever known. I can't believe you had the nerve to ask me to help you bring down my family. You are a selfish, arrogant bastard, and I want you to get out of my house." She sighed, exhausted from her tirade. Luis felt it hard not to laugh. Her face was beet red, and her eyes flashed with flaming anger.
She looks beautiful when she's angry. What am I thinking? She's the one yelling at me and I'm thinking how beautiful she is. I know I asked a lot, but what did she think the dinner was all about?
"Sheridan, are you finished?" He moved closer, and grabbed her shoulders, forcing her to look at him. He pulled her down onto the couch, and looked squarely into her deep cerluean eyes.
"I know I was a stupid jerk, and my timing couldn't have been more off, but you have to forgive me. I understand why you can't help me bring down Allistar and Julian, but can't you help me discover who was impersonating my father? I'm so sorry I hurt you, I promise I wasn't intentionally using you. I would never do that to you." He reached up and brushed away a tear from her lovely eyes. She looked at him with regret and whispered,
"I'm so sorry. It's just that over the last few years, my life has been falling apart." Luis gazed at her with sympathy.
"I know, it's been the same for my family. Now that Mama is so intent on finding Papa, I have to do everything I can to help. That's why I need you. Even if you can't help me with Julian and Allistar, I know you can be there for me with everything else. Will you? I promise I'll never hurt you again." Luis's eyes pleaded with Sheridan's, and finally she nodded.
"I'll do everything I can to help you Luis. I owe you my life, and I really do want to be your friend."
Sheridan sat back on the couch and rubbed her burning eyes. "I'm just so tired of everything going wrong. I need something to cheer me up." Luis looked up sharply, and the twinkle came back to his eye. He grinned slyly and pulled Sheridan to her feet.
"I know just what you need. Come with me, and you'll experience a night you'll never forget." Sheridan smiled in anticipation and followed Luis out the door. It was about time something exciting happened.
Spoiler's for the next chapter: Where did Luis and Sheridan go? What did they do,and what will the consequences be? Will Theresa confess her sins to Ethan and Gwen? What is her new plot?
Chapter 2:
Setting: Same evening, inside Theresa's room.
From the other end of the phone, Whitney Russell scolded Theresa.
"What do you mean you've found a way to get Ethan into your arms? I thought you were going to tell him and Gwen the truth, that there is no boyfriend?" Theresa smiled and hugged her teddy bear.
"That's just it Whitney, with my plan, I won't have to tell Ethan the truth. It's perfect. All I have to do is brush up on my acting skills." Theresa laughed, as she pictured Whitney's frown, her best friend was so skeptical. But nothing could dampen her mood now, not with her perfect plan almost ready for action.
"Tell me what you're going to do Theresa, then maybe I can talk you out of it. I have a feeling that fate won't save you this time."
"Oh Whit, it's brilliant. I don't know why I never thought of it before! So, Ethan thinks I have a boyfriend, when in all actuallity, I don't. Gwen is on to me, but I know Ethan has no clue. So, I call them up and invite them out to dinner with my boyfriend-" Whitney cut her off mud-sentence.
"Theresa there is NO BOYFRIEND!! What do you plan to do, make one out of clay?" Theresa grinned.
"I won't have to. See, I went to invite my boyfriend out to dinner, and I never need to knock. So I went in, and caught him making out with another girl. I run to the restaurant to tell Ethan and Gwen, and everything is perfect. Ethan will comfort me, and Gwen will have no choice but to believe me." Theresa was giddy with excitement. Her naiveity would soon prove to be her downfall.
"Theresa, I think your off your rocker. I'll have no part of this. Don't come crying to me when Ethan hates you, and Gwen becomes Mrs. Ethan Crane." With that, Whitney hung up on her best friend. But even that was not enough to spoil Theresa's mood. Her plan was foolproof, and it was just about time for dinner.
Setting: Sheridan's bedroom
Groggily, Sheridan pried her eyes apart. There was exploding pain coming from all directions of her body. Her stomach churned and she had an awful taste in her mouth. Even the dull light of dawn caused her to squint. Slowly and painfully, Sheridan struggled to stretch her aching limbs. Carefully she rolled to one side and rubbed up against something hard. She moaned, and tried to keep from throwing up all over her bed. She flung her hand to one side and with a smack, she hit human flesh. Her eyes widened in shock, and her body stiffened. The only thing she could utter was, "Ohhh no." She peeled back the covers and yelped in surprise. The body next to her awakened, and all she could do was stare and repeat the words she had just said. There next to her, was a half-naked Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald. Disbelief filled both their eyes, and after a while they came to their senses. "GET OUT OF MY BED!!" Sheridan screeched like a banshee. Luis flew out of the bed, and did a little a dance. He looked back and forth nervously, and grabbed the quilt off the bed. He wrapped it around his waist, and ran out of the room like his butt was on fire.
Ten minutes later, Sheridan came out of the bedroom fully clothed, to find Luis sitting on the couch with his head in his hands. Sheridan anxiously gazed at him. "Uh, Luis, I have a really bad hangover, please tell me you know why we were in bed together?" Luis looked questioningly at Sheridan.
"Gee, I was hoping you could tell me. I have the most awful headache. Judging by the amount of clothes we were wearing, I don't feel too good about last night." Sheridan sat down in the wing back chair across from Luis.
"You know what I think? I think we should just go about our business and forget this whole thing ever happened. I bet we just got pissed drunk and passed out on my bed after playing strip poker. After all, look at the deck of cards on the kitchen table." She motioned to the cards she had been using three days ago to play solitaire. Luis nodded. He rose, and pulled his pants on over his black boxer shorts. He gathered up the rest of his stuff, and made a run for the front door.
Spoiler's for Chapter 3. So what exactly happened on Luis and Sheridan's wild night out? Will Theresa's scheme work? Read on to find out.
Chapter 3:
Setting: The Lobster Shack( one week later)
Gwen Hotchkiss drummed her fingers impatiently on the beautifully covered tablecloth. Theresa and her so called "Boyfriend" were already twenty minutes late. Ethan was staring at her, trying to judge her mood. Lately he had been stepping on coals to keep her happy, she just couldn't get it out of her head that Theresa was a liar. Of course, he didn't believe for one second that Theresa was capable of such scheming, but Gwen had been doing her best to put doubts into his mind. He sighed and placed a hand over Gwen's nervously twiching one.
"Don't worry, I know they'll be here soon. They probably just had car trouble or something." Gwen laughed bitterly. "Right Ethan. Just like the time Theresa's boyfriend didn't show up for Martin Fitzgerald's funeral? Maybe he should get a new car." Ethan frowned and Gwen crossed her arms over her chest. "I haven't got time for this. I just want the little witch to confess that there isn't, nor has there ever been, a boyfriend. She's in love with you Ethan, and I just wish you could see that. Then you could fire her from her job as your mother's personal assistant, and we could get on with our lives without her in it." Ethan took Gwen's hands in his and stared at her pleadingly.
" And I just wish you could look at it from my point of view. I've never known Theresa to be a liar or a schemer, and I don't believe that she could do something like that. I don't know why you can." Gwen threw up her hands with an exasperated sigh. "Because, Ethan, I'm a woman, and it's intuition. I can sense these things. You're just too naive to realize it." Ethan stiffened.
"That's enough Gwen, let's just try and get through the evening without another screaming match, okay? Let's order a drink while we wait for Theresa and her boyfriend to show up." Then, the waiter came up to the table and tapped Ethan on the shoulder.
"There's a young lady at the front for you two sir, and she's quite upset I might add." Ethan and Gwen rose and rushed over to the front. They saw Theresa hunched over on a chair sobbing. Ethan hurried over and knelt down beside her.
"Theresa, what's the matter? Where's your boyfriend?" That just made her cry even harder. Inside, Theresa was jumping for joy. Things were turning out just as she had planned. She lifted her head and blubbered,
"I went to my bbb..Boyfriend's hhhhouse, to invite him to dinner...Annd he was... He was....He was kissing SOMEONE ELSE!!!" Expertly, mascara ran down her tear stained cheeks, and her hair was messed by an unseen wind. Ethan wrapped his arms around Theresa's trembling body, and Gwen stood in the background, fuming. This was just the thing she expected from Theresa. Another sob story to get out of telling the truth. What a conniving little bitch! And Ethan had fallen right into her web of lies. Ethan Looked up at Gwen.
"Do you think you could take Theresa to the Ladies Room? So she can get cleaned up? What a horrible experience this must have been for her." Gwen shook her head and glared menacingly at Theresa's withering body.
"I can't believe that you're falling for this. She is lying through her teeth. Why can't you see that?" She asked.
"Gwen that's enough!" Ethan said roughly. With that, Gwen turned on her heel and stormed outside.
Setting:Sheridan's Cottage
There she sat. Heart pounding, pulse racing. She never thought it was possible to have so many conflicting thoughts at once. It seemed like her whole world was crashing down on her. How could she have let this happen? It was one thing to go drinking, but this was the worst mistake she had ever made.
Sheridan bit her lip, to keep from crying. She even resorted to picking lint off the couch to keep her busy. Suddenly a loud buzzing sound filled her ears. Her heart dropped to her feet and she stood up quickly. Taking a shaky breath, she headed for the door. She pushed it open slowly and flicked on the light. The menacing object loomed in the distance. She made her way over to it. She picked it up, and brought it up to eye level. This was it. She rotated it and held her breath.
Once she saw what she was looking for, she slid down the wall, and buried her head in her lap.
Chapter 4:
Setting: Lobster Shack
Theresa stared at her tear stained reflection in the bathroom mirror. She grinned triumphantly and dabbed at her puffy eyes. Now Ethan would know for sure how heartless and cruel Gwen was. "I've done it." She said aloud.
"You've done what Theresa?" Theresa spun around to face Gwen, her eyes burning with ire. Theresa opened her mouth to say something, but nothing came to mind. She was speechless!
"The game's over Theresa, there's nowhere to run. I heard you gloating to yourself. You never had a boyfriend, it's all been an act by a conniving wench! Now Ethan will have to believe me. You'll get fired, and we'll get married. Then we'll go on with our lives without you." Theresa shook her head.
"What do you think you can give Ethan? All you want is his money and his name. He needs someone that will love him as much as I do." Gwen smirked.
"What you have for Ethan isn't love little girl, it's an obsession. What can a poor girl give a rich man like Ethan Crane? I have it all. Looks, intelligence, and power. Ethan and I will make a stunning couple." Theresa stared Gwen down. She had known it all along. Gwen was just after Ethan's money. He was part of the wealthiest family around, and that's all she cared about.
" How can you be so sure Gwen, that Ethan won't see through your transparency? I love Ethan for who he is, not what he's worth." Gwen backed Theresa into a corner, and stared her down. "I do love Ethan, not only for his money. He is a sweet, caring, sensitive, and wonderful man, and he could never have eyes for anyone but me." Theresa tried hard not let Gwen's words pierce her courage.
"Give it up Gwen. You're right. Ethan is a wonderful man, and if he could see how shallow you really are, he would dump you in a minute. Money isn't everything to him, he actually cares about people. I don't know what he ever saw in you. Why don't you go back to where you came from. Probably hell. Unless the devil doesn't want you anymore!" Gwen burned with anger, and she reached up and slapped Theresa as hard as she could across the face. Theresa flew back against the swinging door, and out into the restaurant. She tried to pick herself off the floor, and Gwen came charging out of the restroom. She grabbed Theresa by the hair, and dragged her across the room. Theresa scrambled to her feet and realized they were in the middle of the dinner area. Gwen was too enraged to notice. Theresa took advantage of the fact that they had an audience. Her cheek throbbed, and her head ached, but she pushed the pain aside.
"Gwen!!" She yelped. "You're hurting me! Stop. Please, please, it hurts!!" Theresa fell to her knees, and crawled along. Gwen dragged her to her feet, and shoved her towards Ethan.
"Do you see this?" Gwen screamed. Her eyes were glazed over, and her cheeks were flushed. "She just confessed! She's been lying the whole time! She even had the nerve to accuse me of not loving you! What does she think I've been waiting for all these years? All the time in boarding school? I never went out with anyone else. I waited for you Ethan. Now she's trying to take you away from me! I won't let her!" Gwen held her head high, as she scanned the sea of shocked faces. Ethan's was the most disturbing. He stared at her with anger, disbelief, sorrow and regret. He shook his head, and walked over to Theresa. He lifted her carefully from her heap on the carpet.
"Gwen, I don't know what's happened to you, but I can't be with someone who is so unstable." Gwen's jaw dropped.
"You believe Her?" She yelled. "I showed you! I showed you what she was like! I loved you with all my heart, all I wanted was for us to get married!" She reached out to Ethan, but he stepped away.
"Get some help Gwen." With that, he helped Theresa out of the restaurant.
Theresa limped out with Ethan's help. She couldn't face him. Even though everything had gone okay, (aside from Gwen going crazy) she couldn't feel good about what she had done. If she had just told the truth in the first place, none of this would have happened. Tears sprang to her eyes.
She stopped him and carefully hopped infront of him. With tears flowing freely down her face, she started to speak.
"Ethan there is something that I have to tell you. I couldn't live with myselff if I let this go on any longer. I realized after all this, that you have to know."
"Know what?" Ethan asked, curiously. Theresa took a deep breath and continued.
"Know that I... I... "
Setting:Youth Center(morning)
Nervously, Sheridan entered the Youth Center. She scanned the perimiter to seek out Luis. Instead, Hank appeared from the storage room. He smiled at her and reached out for a hug. Sheridan declined, and stepped back.
"I can't right now Hank. Something really important has come up. I like you a lot, but things are strange in my life right now. I just can't see us ending up together. You'll find sooner or later why, but right now I can't tell you. I'm sorry that I have to hurt you like this, but there's no way around it." Hank raised his eyebrows.
"What are you telling me Sheridan?" Sheridan rolled her eyes. "Hank, you know what I'm saying, just deal with it. It's not like we were actually a couple. I'm sorry to sound so insensitive, but I have a lot of things on my mind right now. Okay?" Then, Sheridan walked past him to find Luis. Hank stared after her, shocked. Women.
Sheridan approached Luis's office, hoping he would be there. She knocked lightly.
"Come in." Sheridan took a deep breath and pushed through the door. They met face to face for the first time since they woke up together, the week before. "Uh, hi Sheridan. Look, I know things are kind of akward between us right now, but we really can't jump to any conclusions. I mean, we don't know anything happened for sure, do we?" Sheridan switched her gaze to anything but Luis's eyes.
"Um, Luis, actually, there's something I think you should know." Luis gazed at her apprehensivley.
"What is it?" He asked. Sheridan neatly sat down next to luis and clasped her hands together.
"Well, um, you know that night we spent together?" She asked. "Yeah, it's kind of all I can think about lately. I wish I could remember what happened." Sheridan laughed nervously. "Well, see, I kind of know what happened. After that evening, I was..... I was.. Late." She looked down at the floor, and her cheeks flushed pink. Luis stared at her confused.
"What are you talking about? Late for what? We didn't have an appointment did we?" Sheridan smiled impatiently.
"No Luis. I was L-A-T-E!! Get it? My best friend? Didn't come?" Luis's eyes didn't focus on anything for a moment. He looked dumbfounded.
"Damnitt Luis. I'm PREGNANT!!"
Spoiler's for chapter five. Will Luis accept the baby as his own? Will Gwen get back Theresa for playing her for a fool? Read on, and find out!
Chapter 5:
Setting: Whitney Russell's bedroom
Theresa sat cross-legged on Whitney's bed. She was recounting the details of the night before at the Lobster Shack. Whitney was listening intently. Once Theresa finished, Whitney gave her a round of applause.
"Congratulations on ruining a perfectly good relationship. I can't believe you did that to Gwen and Ethan. I admit, Gwen is not my favorite person in the world, but I don't think she deserved such harsh treatment. You were really brutal Theresa. I'm sorry Theresa, I know how much you love Ethan, but the truth always comes out in the end. I'm just glad you told him the truth before it was too late for him and Gwen. I hope they can work things out." Theresa nodded, and tried to lift her heavy heart. After telling Ethan the truth about her non-existent boyfriend, Ethan told her that he expected her resignation on his mother's desk by morning. Then he had left to find Gwen. Theresa had stayed up until one in the morning typing her resignation, and she dropped it off in the Crane mail box. Theresa still had Gwen's hand imprinted on her cheek, and it was a constant reminder of what lies could do to a person. It had turned her into someone she didn't know, and she wished she could take back everything. But it was too late for wishes. She had lost everything she had ever loved. She had lost her Ethan. Now all she could do, was try and move on. After all, like Whitney had said, there were lots of fish in the sea.
Setting: Youth Center
All Luis could do was stare at Sheridan.
"Luis? Aren't you going to say anything? I said I was pregnant. Talk to me, yell at me, anything just say SOMETHING." Luis met her gaze.
"Um, is it mine?" Rage flashed across her face. Luis knew at that moment he had just made a monumental mistake.
"IS IT YOURS????!!! Who the hell else have I screwed lately? Hmmm, let me think, oh that's right, JUST YOU!" Luis was flabergasted.
"I'm sorry? It's just that, I thought I would remember my first time with you." Sheridan was taken aback.
"What?" She asked him. Luis tried to cover up his words.
"I mean, having sex is kind of hard to forget with anyone. Yeah, that's it."
"Well, now that you know I'm not sleeping around, do you believe it's yours?" She asked. Luis bit his thumbnail. He glanced thoughtfully at her.
"Well, there's only one way to find out." Sheridan nodded. They both stood up, and headed out the door.
Spoiler's for chapter six: Where are Luis and Sheridan headed? Will they decide to keep the child? Will Gwen take Ethan back? And will Theresa find a way to get over her love for Ethan? Keep reading to find out!
Chapter 6:
Setting: A park in the middle of Harmony
A cool breeze blew through the town of Harmony, and Theresa Lopez-Fiztgerald sat on a bench, quietly contemplating her situation. For as long as she could remember, she had admired the Cranes. She always dreamed that one day she would be a part of their family. Ethan was everything that Theresa had wanted. Whenever she saw him on the street, her words would escape her, and all thoughts left her mind. She truly believed that what she felt for Ethan was more than infatuation. It was love. But, she had ruined everything with her lies and deception. She should have known better than to think that she could lure Ethan into her arms. He was truly in love with Gwen. She didn't know what would happen between the two of them, but most likely they would work things out. Gwen had been stressing over her relationship with Ethan, and finally she had proven her point. Theresa was a liar, and Gwen had taken her one true love away from her forever. She wasn't sure if Ethan would ever find it in his heart to forgive her, and she wasn't going to press the subject. Whitney had told her that if he did decide to forgive her , it would be on his terms, not hers. She shouldn't apologize just to ease a guilty conscience.
So, it was time to forget about Ethan Crane. She no longer had her job at the Crane mansion, and she still had her mama and brothers to deal with.
She let out an exhausted sigh, lifted her face to the sky. She prayed that one day she would find a new love, but until then she had sworn herself off guys. She shivered a little in the cold, and was about to get up and head for home. But before she could, someone put their hands over her eyes. She gasped with surprise.
"Hey sweetie, I'm back. Didja miss me?" Theresa spun around to see who had surprised her. She met his gaze and a wide smile broke out on her face.
"Noah!! Noah Bennett! I can't believe it's you!" She threw her arms around him, and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Maybe things weren't so bad after all.
Setting: Luis's kitchen
Sheridan and Luis sat silently at the kitchen table. Neither of them spoke. But it wasn't an akward silence, it was more of a stunned silence.
They had gone to the doctor and the pregnancy had been proved to be true.
Now it was a matter of what to do. Sheridan looked up at Luis with anticipation.
"Luis, what are we going to do? I mean, I"m still trying to process all of this. One night of alcohol has turned into a lifetime committment."
Luis ran a hand over his hair, and yawned. "I know. I haven't gotten a moment of sleep since that fateful night."
Sheridan smiled. "You make it sound like the plague was born that night. It's a baby, and I know that I can take care of it. And I will. It all depends on you now.
What are you willing to do? I don't want to pressure you, and if you don't want anyone to know that it's yours, I can make something up." Luis looked down at the floor. She knew that he wouldn't do that. He was too good of a man to do something like that.
"I need to think about things for a while Sheridan. The last time we actually talked, we were just becoming friends. Now we're having a baby.
This is a lot to deal with. But, whatever happens, and whatever we do, we'll do it together." He reached across the table, and grabbed Sheridan's hand. Tears came to her eyes, and she squeezed his hand. "Thank you." She whispered. They stood up and clung to eachother. Maybe just for support, or maybe for something more, but whatever it was, for the time being , they both felt peace.
THE END
