The whole team is assembled. Hel is passing out round devices to everyone.
SARGE
Hel, what are these things?
HEL
New tracking devices. Courtesy of Bill and his Voice team.
CLEO
What do they do?
HEL
They scan for Betrayers. If there’s one within range, we’ll find it.
SARGE
What is it’s range?
HEL
Not sure. Bill still has to work out a few bugs.
CLEO
At least this way we’ll be prepared for whatever comes our way.
HEL
Yeah. After Creegan nearly fried us last time, I want to be ready. No more suprise attacks.
SARGE
So, should we test these puppies out?
HEL
Oh, yeah.
INT. SHAFT
Sarge has the device held out in front of her, slowly sweeping it from side to side. So far, no blips.
INT. SHAFT SECTION 2
Cleo is walking down the shaft, looking at the device. She hasn’t gotten anything yet either.
INT. SHAFT SECTION 3
Hel studies the device intently. She’s as graceful as a cat. Suddenly, she drops the device, shattering it. Her body starts to tremble. Hel collapses to her knees. The shaking gets worse. Her limbs are flailing. Her mouth is open in a silent scream.
INT SHAFT
Sarge stops, re-adjusts her shoulder pack. Ping! Her device is lit up. There’s a Betrayer. Close. She taps her gauntlet.
SARGE
Hel, Cleo. I’m picking up a signal in sector 8, shaft 9.
CLEO
Copy. On my way.
INT. SHAFT SECTION 3
Hel has stopped shaking. Sweat rolls down her forehead. She’s breathing heavily.
SARGE
(from gauntlet)
Hel, you read? Hel?
Hel speaks into her gauntlet, trying to hide the fact that she’s exhausted.
HEL
Yeah. I’m on my way.
She stands up, and begins to jog towards Sarge’s position.
INT. SHAFT
Sarge races around the corner. Screams pierce the air. Sarge goes faster.
INT. SHAFT CORRIDOR
Two men, dressed in black leather, are attacking a young woman. She screams, struggling to break free.
Sarge enters the corridor, gauntlet at the ready.
SARGE
Stop!
The men turn, giving Sarge a look at the woman. It’s Lily!
ON SARGE
Confused and bewildered.
BLACK OUT
END OF TEASER
ACT ONE
INT. SHAFT CORRIDOR
Where we left off. The two men stare at Sarge, who stares at Lily. She casts her head down in shame.
The men open fire, and the blasts hit Sarge’s shields. Sarge returns fire.
THE FIGHT
Spectacular laser display. The men fire at Sarge, who executes a series of flips and jumps to avoid being hit.
One man rushes her, and we go into Matrix-mode. The man takes a swing. Sarge leans back, and the man’s hand passes her face by inches.
Sarge grabs the man’s arm at the elbow and twists. There’s a sickening POP sound and the man cries out in pain.
Behind them, the second man(the Betrayer) grabs Lily and makes a run for it.
SARGE
No!
She fires at the Betrayer, but he’s gone. Sarge turns to the man she incapacitated.
SARGE
Who are you?! And why are you after my sister?!
MAN
You shall never know.
He grabs the necklace hanging from around his neck. At the end dangles a blue vial. The man pushes a small button, and a small needle pops out. He jabs it into his chest. The blue liquid drains out of the vial and into the man. He drops dead.
SARGE
Dammit!
INT. LAB - LATER
The man’s dead body lays on an examining table. Mauser is scanning the man’s body with a hand-held device. He pops the device into a slot on the console. Information starts to scroll on the screen.
MAUSER
It’s a venom known as Rafe. It’s very deadly and fast acting. There’s no known cure. It’s used by only a few groups.
SARGE
What groups?
HEL
Yeah, Mauser. Give us something to go on.
MAUSER
The Black Watch.
Sarge’s face falls.
SARGE
The Black Watch?
MAUSER
Yes.
CLEO
Not these guys again. Can’t they all just die?
SARGE
They have Lily.
HEL
I know, Sarge. Trust me, we will get her back.
CLEO
Why would they take Lily?
SARGE
To get back at me. I am the one who got away. I’ve done some damage to their organization, and now Slade is gonna pay me back.
MAUSER
There is one thing we are overlooking.
HEL
What?
MAUSER
Sarge, didn’t you say that there was a Betrayer?
SARGE
Yeah. It looked like he was undercover.
MAUSER
Then, we must assume Lily has been taken to a Bailey factory.
SARGE
(weakly)
No...
HEL
It’s alright, Sarge. I bet he took her back to Slade.
CLEO
Why would Creegan send a Betrayer to infiltrate the Black Watch?
HEL
He’s probably preparing to take over the underground.
CLEO
Doesn’t he ever stop?
MAUSER
Creegan probably realizes that a direct invasion is a bad choice, seeing as how we repelled the last two.
HEL
He’s going to replace the majority of the population with Betrayers.
MAUSER
Exactly.
CLEO
Great. Now we have two bad guys to stop.
HEL
I’m going to contact Cori and ask her to track down the Black Watch’s current location. Send her and her team out on recon.
SARGE
Why can’t we do it? I can’t just sit here and wait.
HEL
Cori and her team are the best of the best.
Sarge sighs. Her shoulders slump.
SARGE
Fine.
CLEO
What about Voice? Has she not offered an opinion yet?
HEL
She has. She supports us fully.
SARGE
Good to know.
HEL
Don’t worry, Sarge. We will find your sister.
INT. RAINA’S APARTMENT - COLD ROOM
It’s called the cold room for obvious reasons. It’s white, almost like the cell in “Warrior Within.” Vapor mists down from air vents in the ceiling.
Nathaniel, stripped to his boxer-briefs, is strapped to a surgical table. He’s connected to all sorts of machines. Wires crisscross his body. His eyes are shut.
Raina walks in, wearing a white shirt, black leather pants, and a red longcoat. Her hair is done up in a ponytail.
She makes her way over to her brother. She caresses his forehead, smiles down at him lovingly. Raina turns to a machine and hits a green button. Across the monitor, life signs become visible.
RAINA
Time to wake up, brother.
A purple, viscous liquid begins to pump through one of the tubes. It goes to Nathaniel’s mouth. The liquid pours in freely.
After a moment, Nathaniel opens his eyes. He blinks a few times. Groans.
NATHANIEL
(dazed)
W-Wha...
RAINA
Easy, dear brother. You’ve been out for a long time.
NATHANIEL
R-Raina?
Raina smiles. Gives his arm a squeeze.
RAINA
It is me. You’ve had quite an adventure, Nat.
NATHANIEL
Where am I?
RAINA
You’re in my lab. Well, what passes for my lab nowadays. Not quite up to par, but it works.
NATHANIEL
What am I doing here, and where are my clothes?
RAINA
A little shy, Nathaniel? Don’t worry. I had to remove your clothes so that I could hook up my machines. As to the reason you’re here, it’s because your employer fed you all kinds of nasty drugs, and I was removing them.
NATHANIEL
What are you talking about?
Raina starts to pull various needles and wires out of Nathaniel.
RAINA
He was pumping you up with steroids, venoms, etc. I’m guessing he does it with all his employees.
NATHANIEL
(incredulous)
And you were taking them out?
RAINA
Why is that so hard to believe?
NATHANIEL
Because you’re my sister.
RAINA
What can I say? I need you.
NATHANIEL
Ah. For what?
RAINA
To take out your boss.
INT. CORI’S LAB - LATER
Hel, Sarge, and Cleo are gathered in Cori’s hideaway. It’s far dirtier and run down than Hel’s, but Cori doesn’t seem to mind.
Cori is a woman in her late thirties, of Hispanic background.
A holographic image of the Black Watch’s base is emitting from a console.
CORI
The base is three levels large. Slade has it made. The whole base is very modernized, thanks to his stealing from us and the Bailies.
SARGE
What’s their security like?
CORI
They have a very refined security system. Impenetrable.
HEL
Then how did you do it?
CORI
We have a person on the inside. Didn’t you know?
HEL
No, I didn’t.
CORI
Oh.
There’s brief but tense silence.
CLEO
So they have tough security. Anyway to get past it?
CORI
Yes, there are several ways to get past it.
SARGE
Well, let’s get cracking.
CORI
I should’ve said this from the beginning, but I couldn’t get the words out.
SARGE
What? What is it?
CORI
Lily isn’t there.

ACT TWO
INT. RAINA’S APARTMENT
Nathaniel, now dressed, paces the room. Raina is curled up on the couch.
NATHANIEL
You want me to help you take down Mr. Black?
RAINA
Yes.
NATHANIEL
Um...why?
RAINA
He’s an evil man.
NATHANIEL
You used to be evil.
RAINA
Things change.
NATHANIEL
Black is a powerful, evil man.
RAINA
Who wants me because he knows my secret.
NATHANIEL
(dumbfounded)
He does?
RAINA
Yes. A lackey of his, Dr. Ramsey, discovered it. I wasn’t able to kill him, though.
NATHANIEL
Dr. Ramsey? The instigator of the Betrayer massacres?
RAINA
The one and only.
NATHANIEL
He’s a dangerous man, Raina. It’s rumored that he still has a few Betrayers working for him. And that he can actually control a Bailey.
RAINA
Those are rumors, dear brother. Nothing more.
NATHANIEL
They could be true. I really don’t think we should be messing with this.
RAINA
I’m gonna take down Ramsey, then Black. Are you with me or not?
NATHANIEL
You do realize that Black will send another agent after us?
RAINA
Yes. Now, are you with me?
Nathaniel pauses. We can see that aninternal conflict is raging in him. Finally, he speaks.
NATHANIEL
I’m with you. Black will kill me, but I’m with you.
INT. CORI’S LAB
Stunned silence. A look of horror and dismay is planted firmly on Sarge’s face.
SARGE
Not there?
CORI
No. Our agent said that neither the man nor your sister showed up.
SARGE
That means he took her to a Betrayer factory.
HEL
Sarge, don’t think that.
SARGE
It’s the only explanation! But it’s not too late. We can rescue her.
CORI
The simple fact of the matter may be that he went to a safe house.
CLEO
A safe house?
HEL
A place where the bad guys go if someone’s following them.
CORI
That’s right. She is probably in a safwe house. The Betrayer is probably just waiting until he deems it safe. Or until he receices contact from the Watch.
CLEO
But why wouldn’t he just take her to a Betrayer factory?
HEL
Because Creegan probably doesn’t want anybody to be suspicious.
SARGE
So what do we do?
HEL
Wait till the Betrayer makes his move.
INT. BLACK WATCH BASE - OPERATIONS
A large room lit only by twelve lights. Computers, maps, holograms, and technicians fill the room. Slade stands at a computer, reading the scrolling information.
SLADE
This is good. Tell him that it’s a deal.
The technician nods and starts typing.
BETRAYER
(o.s.)
Boss!
Slade turns to see the Betrayer leading a non-resisting Lily into the room.
SLADE
What’s this?
BETRAYER
Fresh meat.
SLADE
Whatever do you mean?
LILY
I want to join!
SLADE
Oh, you do, huh?
He approaches her, runs a finger down her cheeck, her neck. Stops at her breasts.
SLADE
You are a pretty thing, but I need people who will fight. You’re just a slip of a girl. A runt.
LILY
I can fight.
SLADE
(ignoring her, to Betrayer)
Why are you wasting my time with this girl?
BETRAYER
Because she’s Sarge’s sister.
That makes Slade do a double-take.
SLADE
This is Sarge’s sister?
LILY
Yes. But I’m a better fighter. And I won’t betray you like she did.
SLADE
That’s probably because you’re working for her! An undercover agent.
LILY
Please. I haven’t talked to my sister in the longest time. I don’t even consider her my sister.
SLADE
And what, may I ask, brought on this sudden change of sides?
LILY
Because you represent the power in the underground. Voice and her stupid cause are nothing.
SLADE
Hmm. You seem convincing enough, but I’d rather not take the risk. Kill her.
Two men step up to grab Lily. She turns, executes a mid-air kick, busting open the lip of Man #1. She lands in a crouch, does a roll, and plants her fist in Man #2’s crotch. She springs up, uppercutting him. She punches him in the gut, then swings her fist around and smashes it in the back of his neck.
The Betrayer approaches behind her. Lily launches herself into the air, and slams both her feet into his chest. The Betrayer stumbles back. Lily lands on her open palms. Using her feet, she slams one then the other into the Betrayer’s face.
She flips and lands in a fighting position. The Betrayer rushes her. Lily does a snap kick. It sends the Betrayer falling. He hits the ground with a crash.
Man #1 stands up, reaches for her weapon. Lily reaches out super fast, grabbing the man’s wrist and twisting. We hear a sickening crunch. The man screams. Lily unholsters the weapon and points it at Man #2, who is on one knee.
LILY
Don’t move.
Throughout all this, Slade watched with a blank stare, showing no emotion. He raises his hands as if preparing to attack Lily himself, but instead he claps.
SLADE
Impressive.
LILY
Told you I was good.
SLADE
And indeed you are. The question is, are you about to use that gun on me?
In answer, Lily tosses him the gun.
LILY
That prove my loyalty?
SLADE
No. It could be a trick to lure me into a relaxed position so you could kill me.
LILY
Why would I do that? I could have just killed you.
SLADE
Yes, but you wouldn’t have made it out alive.
LILY
I just can’t get you to trust me, can I?
SLADE
Not really. But we’ll see.
INT. LAB
Cleo is on the floor playing with Mr. Pants. Mauser is tinkering with an instrument. Hel and Sarge exit from the white room, sweating.
MAUSER
Strenous workout?
SARGE
Yeah.
HEL
You kicked my ass.
SARGE
Wish it was the bad guy’s ass.
CORI
(over speaker)
You may get your chance.
The team rushes over to Cori’s holographic image, which has popped up.
SARGE
What are you talking about?
CORI
Lily’s been brought to the Watch’s base.
INT. RAINA’S APARTMENT/COLD ROOM
Raina sits at a desk, working on her computer. Nathaniel stands behind her.
RAINA
This is what I know about Mr. Black’s organization so far.
A list of names, pictures, and other stuff pops up on the screen.
NATHANIEL
That’s a lot.
RAINA
This is only the tip of the shaft. These are people in the organization, people that fund it, false companies it uses as frnts.
NATHANIEL
How did you get all this?
RAINA
I knew influential people back in the day.
NATHANIEL
(points to screen)
That woman. I’ve seen her before. Who is she?
Raina touches the screen and a picture pops up. It’s of a woman in her late twenties with silver hair and a mean look on her face.
RAINA
Her name is Ambrosia. She’s a pretty important person in the organization.
NATHANIEL
Huh.
RAINA
You see why they have to be stopped? They’re too powerful.
NATHANIEL
I know you have another agenda, Raina. What, I’m not sure. But I know you do.
RAINA
Can’t you believe me when I say that I just want to stop these people?
NATHANIEL
Oh, I believe you want to stop them. Just not the whole saving mankind angle.
RAINA
Believe what you will, as long as you help.
NATHANIEL
I’m with you, Raina. I don’t like those people either. But they are strong, and they have eyes and ears all over the place.
RAINA
I’m aware of that, but we have to stop them.
NATHANIEL
It won’t be easy. We’ll have to call in every favor we’re owed, and use up all our sources.
Whoosh! Raina’s wall-door evaporates, and there stands Dr. Ramsey, surrounded by seven Betrayers.
DR. RAMSEY
Hello, Raina. Nathaniel.
NATHANIEL
This isn’t good, is it?
DR. RAMSEY
Not for you, no. See, Mr. Black was worried this would happen. He knew that your sister might turn you. So he sent me to find both of you.
Dr. Ramsey points his metallic finger at the siblings.
DR. RAMSEY
Take them.
The Betrayers move in. Nathaniel struggles, but they overwhelm him. Raina lets herself be taken. The Betrayers move the two out the door.
Dr. Ramsey reaches into his coat pocket and produces what appears to be a crude cell phone. He punches a number and begins to speak.
DR. RAMSEY
I have them, Ambrosia. I’ll take them to my lab and dispose of them.
(pause)
Yes, ma’am.
He hangs up and walks out.
BLACK OUT
END OF ACT TWO
ACT THREE
INT. LAB
The team(Hel, Sarge, Cleo, and Cori) has assembled. They are just donning black outfits. Mauser is fidling with an instrument behind them.
CORI
Okay, my inside man will disrupt the security net in 45 minutes. We’ll have exactly five minutes to get in, get Lily, and get back out.
HEL
We’ve practiced this many times. We can do it.
SARGE
We have to do it. For Lily.
CLEO, HEL, AND CORI
For Lily.
MAUSER
Before you go, take this.
He tosses Hel a device that looks like a pen.
HEL
What is it?
MAUSER
It emits an electromagnetic pulse. You press that red button, and all the computers with range will disrupt. Good for a getaway because it’ll turn off the security and gauntlets.
EXT. SHAFTS
The team slides down the shafts silently and stealthily. We can barely make them out in the darkness.
They land on a shaft ledge and advance into the overhwhelming dark.
HEL
We’re approaching it, guys. Keep a level head and we’ll make it out of this.
SARGE
Oh, we will.
EXT. BLACK WATCH BASE
The team waits outside, huddled in darkness.
CORI
The system will be shutting down...now.
HEL
Go!
And they rush forward, passing through the door wall...
INT. BLACK WATCH BASE
...and right into the hands of the enemy. Slade, the Betrayer, and a LOT of Watch members are there, weapons at the ready. One guard has a gun pointed at Lily’s head, who looks terrified.
Slade holds the head of the decapitated informant.
SLADE
Thanks to Lily here, I was able to discover the mole in my operation.
SARGE
Lily?
SLADE
So I set this effective little trap. And now I have the infamous Voice team, along with my favorite soldier back.
HEL
You haven’t won. Even if you kill us, there are still other Voice teams. Plus, your little operation has been infiltrated by other people.
SLADE
Oh? And who might that be?
HEL
The Bailies.
Slade begins to grin. Slowly at first, then his grin encompasses his whole face. He begins to laugh. Hel reaches into her pocket and slips the pen into her fist.
CORI
What’s so funny?
SLADE
I know all about the Bailies. In fact, I helped arrange it with Creegan. I give him tactical information and access to the underground, and he gives me a cache of Bailies. I also give him a few humans now and then for spare parts.
CLEO
You’re disgusting.
SLADE
Thank you. Now, kill them.
The men raise their weapons. Hel pushes the button on the pen device. A light blue shockwave spreads through the base, shutting off all power.
SLADE
What’s happening? What’s going on?
The team goes into action. Hel kicks the weapon out a soldier’s hand. She flips into the air, grabs it, and brings it down on the man’s head.
Cori and Cleo are double trouble. Back to back, they make their way through the crowd, punching, kicking, and bashing.
Sarge fights her way through the crowd to her sister. She slams her fist into the guard’s mouth. He goes down and doesn’t come back up. Sarge wraps her arms around her sister.
SARGE
Lily! Thank God. I thought I’d never see you again.
Suddenly, Sarge’s eyes go wide. She backs up, and we see a knife protruding from her abdomen! Lily, blood on her hand, smiles. Sarge collapses.
The lights begin to flicker back on. A Watch member tries his weapon and it works.
HEL
Get out! Move! Move!
She runs for the exit. Slams her shield on. Weapons fire slams into her back. Cori and Cleo are close behind her. Hel sees that the wall door is beginning to flicker to life. She raises her gauntlet and shoots webbing through it. She zooms through the door. Cori and Cleo follow suit.
INT. SHAT CORRDIOR
The team lands outside in a heap.
WHIRRRRRRR.
The team looks up to see a blast weapon mounted on the wall swing around to point at them.
HEL
Move!
The team jumps out of the way, just as the blast weapon fires. Boom! The place where the team used to be is incenerated.
CLEO
Where’s Sarge?
HEL
She must still be inside!
The blast weapon fires again, striking close to the team. A wall panel opens up and another blast weapon emerges.
CORI
Hel, we’ve gotta go!
CLEO
We can’t just abandon Sarge!
HEL
We’re gonna have to! Don’t worry, we’ll get her back!
THOOM!
The blast weapons begin firing, destroying anything in their path. The team takes off running.
INT. LAB
The team stumbles in, breathless.
MAUSER
What happened? Where’s Sarge?
HEL
She didn’t make it.
INT. CELL
Sarge lies on the bunk, her stab wound healed. The door opens, admitting Lily, now dressed in Black Watch attire.
She walks over to Sarge and kneels next to her. She reaches into her pocket and produces a needle. She inserts it into one of Sarge’s veins, and pumps the fluid inside.
LILY
Time to wake up.
She extracts the needle and replaces it in her pocket. Sarge groans, rolls around a bit. Her eyes open.
LILY
Hello, sister. Have a good sleep.
Sarge tries to sit up, but can’t.
LILY
Oh, you won’t be able to move for a while, dear sister. The drug we used in you is too potent. Sorry. But hey, you’re awake.
SARGE
(trying to form the words)
W-w-w-
LILY
Why? Because you weren’t a good sister. There was so much in the underground to explore, to learn about. But you were too occupied with your stupid little Voice missions. It was so pathetic. So I got involved with a shaft gang. They showed me the ropes, how to fight. Who to trust, who not too. But they taught me a little too well.
She gets up, looks around the cell.
LILY
My life was a cell before I met them. There was only so much I could do, could explore. But after that shaft gang, I knew my calling. I was to be greater than you. And the only way to do that was not only to join the Black Watch, but--
She stops, smiles.
LILY
Oops. Sorry. Almost spilled the big surprise. I guess you’ll just have to wait like everyone else.
Lily walks to the door and leaves. Sarge lies there, and we can see the anger building up inside her.
INT. SLADE’S QUARTERS
Lily is hidden in shadows. Slade stands behind her, shirt off.
LILY
You really think it’s me?
SLADE
I do. After that masterful performance, you need to throw away the old and get the new.
LILY
I do like it.
SLADE
Stand up and let me get a better look.
Lily stands, steps into the light. Her hair has been dyed red, and now it’s shoulder length. Lily spins around, laughing.
LILY
I love it!
Slade grabs her around the waist, kisses her.
SLADE
I love you.
LILY
This is an abrupt change from not trusting me.
SLADE
You are the one that cut off the informant’s head. You’ve helped me achieve something that nobody else could. I am finally going to take over the underground.
LILY
In carefully planned and well executed attacks.
SLADE
Of course. Attacks that I will let you help plan and execute.
LILY
You’re too good to me.
SLADE
I know. Well, we have a war to plan.
Cut to:
A MONTAGE OF IMAGES
Note: “War(What is it good for)” plays throughout the montage.
-Lily, Slade, and the Betrayer planning the attacks.
-Sarge pacing her cell, infuriated.
-The Black Watch members getting their weapons and preparing for battle.
-The Watch attacking a bar. Weapons fire blowing up everything in site.
-Seven Watch members on speeders(motorcycles that float) rushing down a corridor, firing at various doors.
-The Watch attacking a populated trading center. Lily and Slade at at the head, killing anything and everything that moves.
-Hel, Cleo, Mauser, and Maria standing in Maria’s HQ looking over a sector map.
-Lily, Slade, and a man named Brute throwing darts onto a holographic board, names of various shaft locations.
-The Watch attacks one of Maria’s outposts. It’s a quick, decisive battle. Maria’s guards never stood a chance.
-At another of Maria’s outpost, a guard opens a package. Inside is a bomb. Boom!
-In Watch HQ, a long line of humans and mutants has gathered, all wanting to sign up.
-Sarge trying to kick the cell’s door down.
-The Guard locked in battle with the Watch. The Guard is outnumbered 10 to 1, but they fight valiantly.
-An entire shaft going up in flames.
-Lily and Slade, in his quarters, making out passionately.

INT. MARIA’S OFFICE
Maria sits in her chair, her hands on her forehead. A holographic image of a man’s head pops up.
GUARD
Maria, sir.
Maria sits up, looks at him. Defeat is etched onto her face.
MARIA
Yes?
GUARD
Sector nine has been taken. I’m sorry.
MARIA
It’s okay, soldier. Report to shaft 12, sector 78. They need your help.
GUARD
Yes, sir.
The image snaps off. Maria sighs.
INT. GUARD BASE CORRIDOR
Hel, Mauser, and Cleo walk down the hall, headed for Maria’s office.
CLEO
Are you sure this will work?
HEL
It has to.
INT. MARIA’S OFFICE
The trio enter. Maria doesn’t even look up.
MARIA
Hello, Hel.
HEL
Maria, we need to talk.
MARIA
The Watch has destroyed almost all order in the underground. The Guard can’t stop them. Your Voice teams can’t stop them. Nobody can.
HEL
There is a way.
MARIA
And what’s that?
HEL
We’re fighting too many battles. Our men are spread throughout the shafts. They’re outnumbered and beleagured. We need to trick them into batling all our forces on our own soil.
MARIA
A trap? You want to lead the Black Watch into a trap?
HEL
Yes. I know it can work. It might take a week to put into action, but I know we can beat them.
MARIA
Fine. I’ll go along with it because it’s our last resort.
CLEO
Cool.
INT. SLADE’S QUARTERS
Lily, Slade, and Brute are huddled around a holo-image of the shafts.
SLADE
So far, so good. We have almost half of the shafts in our control. The Guard can’t stop us, and neither can hel or her puny Voice teams.
LILY
I told you it would work.
BRUTE
But what do we do after we have it all? People will continue rising up against us. You know that the Voice teams won’t give up.
SLADE
I’ve already made the deal with Creegan. I’ll send any and all dissidents to him to be made into Betrayers. It’s a beautiful system.
BRUTE
You actually trust that maniac?
SLADE
I do, and you will too. Creegan is going to make us gods.
LILY
I’ve always wanted to be a god.
The door beeps.
SLADE
Enter.
A woman walks in.
WOMAN
Sir, Creegan wants to speak with you.
SLADE
Tell him I’m on my way.
The woman nods and leaves. Slade turns to Lily, kisses her.
SLADE
Wanna come?
LILY
No. I’m gonna take a sonic shower. Is that all right, baby?
SLADE
Of course, pumpkin.
Slade stands up, walks out. Brute follows him. Lily reaches into her pocket and pulls out a small, round device. She hits a button on it. A few seconds later, the Betrayer that kidnapped her walks in.
LILY
Hmm. That was quick.
She walks over to him. She lifts up his shirt and opens his abdomen. She places the device inside, and connects it to two black wires. She hits another button, and the device lights up. She closes the abdomen and lowers the shirt. She stares at the Betrayer.
LILY
You are my ticket to leadership. Now go.
The Betrayer exits. Lily walks over to a console and hits a button. Creegan’s face pops up.
SLADE
(o.s.)
Slade here.
Lily smiles.
INT. OPERATIONS
Slade stands in front of a holographic image of Creegan.
CREEGAN
Your attacks are going well, Slade. It seems I picked the right team to back.
SLADE
That’s right.
CREEGAN
But there is still resistance to your new order.
SLADE
Very small resistance.
CREEGAN
But it still exists. You must destroy it completely. I want you to atack the Guard’s headquarters.
BLACKOUT
END OF ACT THREE
ACT FOUR
INT. BLACK WATCH/OPERATIONS
Same as before.
SLADE
Could you say that again, sir?
CREEGAN
Attack and destroy the Guard’s base of operations.
SLADE
That’s not going to be easy. It’s located deep in the heart of Guard territory. Lots of checkpoints and bases between here and there.
CREEGAN
I’m sure you will find a way. Creegan out.
Slade slams his fist down on the panel.
INT. SLADE’S QUARTERS
The door slides open and Slade enters. He hears the running water. He smiles.
INT. SARGE’S CELL - LATER
Sarge is pacing. The door opens and Lily enters.
LILY
Hello, Sarge.
Sarge spits in her face. Lily grimaces, wipes the spit off.
LILY
Is that any way to treat your sister?
SARGE
No sister of mine would keep me locked in this cramped cell for over a month and let me watch holo-clips of my friends fighting and dying.
LILY
I just figured you’d want to keep up with current events.
SARGE
Why are you here, Lily?
LILY
Because I’m gonna be gone for a while. The Watch is about to excecute a masterful plan that will destroy all order.
Lily turns to the door, motions at two guards standing in the hallway. They carry in a flat screen and hang it on Sarge’s wall.
LILY
When we begin the attack, you’ll see it all live on your very own screen. And don’t even try to take it down. A shield is surrounding it. Bye.
She walks out, followed by the guards. Sarge screams in rage and frustration.
INT. GUARD HQ
It looks like the inside of a police precinct, except with 2525 technology. Everyone is going about their business. Maria is escorting Hel, Cleo, and Mauser to the exit.
MARIA
It’s a good plan, Hel. I hope it works.
HEL
It has to.
In the distance, we hear a thumping sound.
CLEO
What is that?
MARIA
I’m not sure.
MAUSER
It sounds like...marching.
HEL
(to Maria)
Are you expecting any of your troops?
MARIA
No.
HEL
Oh no...
MARIA
What?
HEL
The Watch.
It finally hits Maria. Hits her like a sledge hammer in the face.
MARIA
All hands, battle positions! The Watch is coming!
The thumping gets louder. Everyone is tense, waiting. Gauntlets and other assorted weapons are pointed at the door.
The thumping grows louder, and louder. A whirring/humming sound is added to the mix. The sound finally overwhelms, everything, blocking out all noise.
Then, it stops. Everything is quiet.
Cleo exchanges a look with Hel. Maria is tense, her muscles ready.
BOOM-THOOM!
The door explodes inward, and five speeders rush in, firing all the way. Guards die in droves. Hel raises her gauntlet and fires. She hits one speeder, and it explodes.
Watch soldiers pour in, firing and being fired at.
A speeder makes its way down the corridor, firing at everything. A heat guided small missile pops out of the wall and fires. Speeder goes boom.
A Watch member rushes Hel. She flips into the air, touching down behind him. She fires her gauntlet. Pivots, fires again. A blast hits her shield. Hel turns, fires.
INT. SARGE’S CELL
Sarge is watching all the action on her screen. Her expression is one of pure horror.
INT. GUARD HQ
Cleo slams her fist into a man’s gut. He doubles over. She raises her knee and brings it into his face. A woman sneaks up from behind her, throws a wire over her throat. Begins choking her. Suddenly, the woman’s body goes rigid, then slumps to the floor. Cleo turns to see Mauser, his hands Betrayerfied, standing there.
Maria fires her blaster pistol into the crowd of onrushing Watch soldiers. In this thick of a crowd, it’s hard not to miss anybody.
A man rushes Hel. She spins into a heel kick knocking him aside. She kicks him in the knee, breaking it. She spins, shoving her heel into the man’s face. His nose breaks, and blood pours out.
A man charges Cleo. She ducks as he takes a punch at her. She slams her fist into his gut. She stands up andgrabs the man’s hair. She pulls him up, knees him in the crotch, and slams her fist into his chin. She spins him around and kicks him in the small of the back.
A soldier attacks Maria with a blaster and she grabs his arm in both hands, pauses to kick another soldier away behind her, swings the one with the blatser around and throws him into another soldier, shoves another one away, ducks and punches, ducks and punches again.
INT. SARGE’S CELL
Sarge is pounding on the door. She’s steaming mad. Suddenly, the door slides open. Sarge steps back, going into a fighting position.
The man who walks in is Blade!
BLADE
Woah. I’m not here to fight you. I’m here to rescue you.
SARGE
Who are you?
BLADE
Call me Blade.
Sarge relaxes. Not much, but some.
SARGE
The same one who helped Cleo stop Sluggo?
BLADE
The same one.
SARGE
You sure do have that timing thing down, huh?
BLADE
I can only interfere at certain points. That is the law.
SARGE
What law? Who do you work for?
BLADE
I wish I could answer your questions, but I can’t. There’s a speeder waiting for you. You must hurry. You’re the only one who can stop the Watch.
SARGE
When this is all over, I will find out who you are.
BLADE
I hope you do.
Sarge runs past him, leaving the cell empty.
INT. GUARD HQ
Slade and Lily sit on speeders, watching the action unfold.
SLADE
Look, my darling. They don’t have a chance!
LILY
It will be all over soon.
She reaches into her coat pocket and produces a device very similar to the one she put in the Betrayer.
INT. SHAFT CORRIDOR
Sarge races down the shaft on the speeder, going at super sonic speeds. As she passes an intersection, she notices a platoon of Guards being held captive. She turns off the speeder and grabs her gauntlet. She slips it on.
Sarge jumps out from around the corner, and opens fire. The Watch members fall and die.
SARGE
Come on!
The Guards grab their weapons and follow after Sarge.
INT. GUARD HQ/CELL BLOCK
Two speeders come roaring in, firing at the control panels. The cellsopen, and the prisoners run free. We recognize one of them as Marla!
INT. GUARD HQ
Hel jumps onto a table, landing on her palms. She wraps her feet around a man’s neck. She twists, breaking it. Hel jumps off, and starts firing.
A Guard fires his blaster, hitting a soldier. The soldier jerks with the impact of the blasts then drops to its knees and falls forward. The Guard continues to fire at new targets when
a soldier grabs him from behind and drags him down, a knife in his hand and in the Guard’s neck.
A hulking blue mutant walks through the fray, looking for something to kill. A Guard rushes by him. The mutant reaches out and grabs the Guard. He tosses him into the ceiling.
A Watch soldier sends a Guard flying high through the air. Not too far away another soldier is flinging another Guard off in a different direction. It's a chaotic free-for-all. Several Guards are already down being fed upon by mutants. A couple of explosions on the other side of the base rocks the room. A large gray mutant is at the top of the staircase leading to the catwalk and is backhanding a Guard in the face, making the man flip backwards and tumble down the stairs. Another Guard charges the mutant from the catwalk and it punches him hard across the face.
Still atop his speeder, Slade smiles.
SLADE
It’s time to join the battle.
And he jumps down into the fray. Lily grins.
LILY
Finally.
She hits the button on the round device.
The Betrayer, in the midst of pummeling a Guard, releases him and starts to make his way through the crowd.
EXT. CORRIDOR OUTSIDE GUARD HQ
There are still a lot of Watch members waiting to get inside. Sarge and her very large follwing of Guards and Voice teams enter the corridor. Sarge opens fire, as does her army.
The Watch members never knew what hit them. They fall down like wheat to a scythe. Sarge rushes forward on her speeder, and her army surges forward.
INT. GUARD HQ
Slade is making his way through the crowd. He sees Cleo knock the crap out of a Watch member, and heads for her.
Cleo turns, comes face to face with Slade.
SLADE
Remember me?
And he slams his fist in her face. Cleo stumbles back. Her lip is busted. She yells, slams her fist into Slade’s face. She begins pummeling him. Slade grabs her hands and pushes her into a desk. He slams his foot into her chest, pinning her there. He points his blaster at her.
SLADE
I’m gonna enjoy this.
He begins to squeeze the trigger. Suddenly, a blast rips through him, and Slade drops his pistol. His body collapses on the floor. Cleo looks in astonishement at the Betrayer who killed him. The Betrayer goes to shoot Cleo. She raises her gauntlet and fires. She knocks the Betrayer back into the crowd.
The battle starts to turn as Sarge’s army pushes inside. Lily sees the new arrivals, and curses.
LILY
This wasn’t supposed to happen!
SARGE
(o.s.)
Get used to it!
Lily turns in time to see Sarge come roaring towards her on the speeder. Sarge jumps off, tackling Lily to the ground.
They both get up. Lily slams her fist into Sarge’s face. Sarge spins, slamming her elbow into the back of Lily’s head. Lily pivots, uses one foot to jump in the air while using the other to land a blow to Sarge’s midsection. It also gives Lily the momentum she needs to flip around in the air and land facing Sarge.
They both take fighting stances. Then: Sarge launches her attack. She slams a hard right hook into Lily’s face. Then, before Lily can recover, kicks her in the side of the knee. Lily falls to one knee. Sarge follows with a swinging roundhouse kick.
She goes to kick Lily again, but Lily reaches out and grabs Sarge’s foot. She jumps up, flipping Sarge. She lands with a thud on her back. Lily brings her foot down, but Sarge rolls out of the way.
Sarge jumps up. Lily slams her right fist into Sarge’s face, then uses her other arm to punch Sarge in the abdomen, knocking the wind out of her.
Sarge somersaults backwards. Her feet slam into Lily, sending her flying across the room. She lands next to a blaster. Lily picks it up and fires at Sarge.
Sarge jumps out of the way, runs up the stairs the catwalk. Lily fires her webbing and meets Sarge.
LILY
It’s too bad it has to end this way, Sarge! You could’ve been my partner!
SARGE
I’ll never let you win, Lily! I will hunt you down wherever you go!
Lily kicks, but Sarge leans back and the kick goes wide. Sarge grabs Lily by the hair and slams her face into the railing.
Lily elbows Sarge in the face. Sarge steps back, clutching her nose. Blood trickles out between her fingers.
Lily presses the attack, punching and kicking at every oppurtunity. Sarge defends herself as best as she can. Lily grabs either side of the railing and lifts herself up, like a gymnast. She kicks out with one foot then the other, knocking Sarge onto her ass.
Sarge stands up, throws a very mean left hook to Lily’s tender face. She then emails a kick to the side of her head.
Lily tries to slam a knee into Sarge’s midsection but Sarge blocks that, countering with an inward
crescent kick.
Lily backhands Sarge, then executes a mid-level round kick. Sarge launches an attack but Lily blocks her strikes.
Sarge counters with a right hook, but Lily ducks it and slams both her fists into Sarge’s stomach. Sarge attacks again, this time hitting Lily with several punches to the stomach and head.
Lily manages to catch her arm on the last punch and slams Sarge into the railing. She strikes Sarge in the back with her elbow.
Sarge grabs Lily bu the arms and swings her around, finally letting her go. Lily slams into the railing.
Sarge smiles and slams Lily to the ground. She sweeps out with her leg and knocks Sarge to the ground. Lily jumps up and points her gauntlet at Sarge.
SARGE
Lily!
Lily fires. Sarge rolls out of the way and jumps up. She slams her foot into Lily’s gauntlet hand. She grabs it and yanks the gauntlet off. Before Lily can react, she smashes her elbow into Lily’s face three time, then knocks her feet out from under her.
Sarge points her gauntlet at Lily.
SARGE
Time to go, Lily.
Sarge is about to fire when webbing encases her arm and yanks it up.The blast tears into the ceiling.
Sarge turns to see Hel, a grim expression on her face. Sarge turns back in time to see Lily jump over the railing and onto a speeder.
SARGE
No-o-o-o-o-o!
She races out. The Watch members see her go, and they also start to retreat.
Sarge grabs the webbing and yanks it off. She turns to Hel, pissed.
SARGE
Why did you do that!? I had her!
HEL
(somber)
I know, Sarge. I know.
Sarge stares at her, bloody, bruised, and breathing hard.
INT. GUARD HQ - LATER
Bodies are being removed, and things are being rebuilt. Maria and hel talk.
MARIA
We won. The Black Watch has retreated from nearly all the shafts it had taken over.
HEL
We won this battle, but the war is far from over.
MARIA
(sighs)
I know. It will take us a long time to rebuild, but it can be done. You’ve proven that to me.
Hel smiles.
INT. LAB - TWO HOURS LATER
Cleo is absentmidedly throwing Mr. Pants the ball. Hel exits from the white room.
HEL
Is Sarge still gone?
CLEO
Yeah. She was pretty mad that you let Lily get away.
HEL
I had to. If Sarge had killed Lily, she never would have forgiven herself.
CLEO
Maybe, but now Lily’s free to strike again.
Hel sighs and goes back into the white room.
INT. BLACK WATCH/OPERATIONS - ONE HOUR LATER
Lily sits in a chair, playing with a pink foam ball. A red button on the console beeps. Lily presses it and Creegan’s hologram pops up again.
CREEGAN
I want to know the meaning of this, Sla-- You’re not Slade.
LILY
That’s right. Slade was killed during the battle. I am his replacement.
CREEGAN
Hmm. Well, Lily, I must say I am pleased with the change in management. It’s nice to have a fresh face to look at.
LILY
And looking at you is better than the Supreme Pod.
CREEGAN
Oh, Slade told you about that.
LILY
No. I looked it up. When one has to run a business, one must know everything.
CREEGAN
I like the way you think. I look forward to conducting “business” with you.
Lily hits a button, and the hologram disappears. She smiles and squeezes the ball.
BLACKOUT
