The Bold and the Beautiful's BOBBIE EAKES on March 16, 1999

SODhost: Welcome B&B fans! Bobbie Eakes (Macy) has joined us. Welcome, Bobbie!

C47Red asks: Is Macy's dad Myles really a mobster? That story he told about why he left 25 years ago seems a little fishy. After all, if he isn't a mobster why isn't he afraid of being so public now when he supposedly had to hide from the mob all those years ago?

BOBBIE EAKES: These are questions we ask amongst ourselves, but only the writers know. Who knows? He could turn out to be a bad guy. Macy seems to be giving him the benefit of the doubt, but she's a little needy and depending on other people for her happiness. Seems that way…

PeacefulPenguin asks: Is Kimberly going to like being part of the Spectra clan or will she resent Sally and Macy for taking her father away?

BOBBIE EAKES: Kimberly's not going to know what hit her in becoming part of the Spectra gang. I told (Ashley Lyn Cafagna, Kimberly) the other day that this group reminds me of The Munsters and she's Cousin Marilyn!

Jen_09861743 asks: How will CJ react to Myles and Kimberly becoming part of the family -- will he think Myles is trying to take Clarke's place in his life?

BOBBIE EAKES: Definitely. I think CJ is very protective of his mother and I also think he's at a rebellious stage. So I don't think he's going to take the news very well.

mom3_61832 asks: Do you enjoy your storyline right now? Seems to be very exciting with your new father in the picture.

BOBBIE EAKES: Yeah, I do enjoy it. And I think the show is really happy with all the stories right now. They're doing a good job juggling two or three stories right now and the ratings reflect that. The cast is pretty happy with what's going on.

fleafee asks: Bobbie, we are six months behind in Australia. Do you think Macy will marry again?

BOBBIE EAKES: Yeah, I think she will. But right now, Macy's got her family first and foremost in her mind. Although she's carrying on a bit with Thorne, that's not her priority.

PeacefulPenguin asks: If Macy doesn't get back with Thorne, who would you like to see her hook up with romantically?

BOBBIE EAKES: A new person on the show :) It's gotten sort of incestuous already because it's such a small cast. So I could say Ridge, but that's too close for comfort. I mean, who? That's the question. Rick is a little young. I think they would have to bring someone in, with the exception of Pierce. He seems to be the only realistic match for Macy, but I don't think the show is going to do that.

LisetteLalonde asks: Hi Bobbie, this is Lisette from Gouda in Holland. When are you coming? Later this week? I am looking forward to seeing you. (I love your CD!)

BOBBIE EAKES: Thanks. I'm going to be in Rotterdam. We leave next Tuesday, a week from today, and arrive Wednesday morning. Wednesday is relaxation day, and then [I'm doing] five concerts at the Ahoy. The concerts are by Frans Bauer; I'll be singing a duet with Frans and singing the new single from my CD.

anitanl asks: Hi Bobbie. Is it true you're going to sing with Frans Bauer? If so, why with him? Honestly, I have to say he's not really my favorite.

BOBBIE EAKES: I really don't know his work; I've never met him. It's going to be interesting. It was really a chance to go over and promote my single, so I hope it's going to be good. He's popular! He's sold out five nights at the Ahoy -- that's pretty good! I only sold out two nights with Jeff (Trachta, ex-Thorne).

cute_bobbie asks: Do you already have a name for your second solo album?

BOBBIE EAKES: No... :) All things in due time. I haven't even thought about doing a second record right now.

goodgirl2699f asks: Hello, Bobbie. I think you're wonderful! I never miss a day of Bold & Beautiful, so keep up the good work, OK? We love you!

BOBBIE EAKES: Thank you very much for the nice comments :).

India831 asks: Is Kimberly ever going to get over Rick?

BOBBIE EAKES: Oh, I don't think so. Has Brooke ever gotten over Ridge? That's a good clue :).

anitanl asks: Hi Bobbie. You've been in many different countries. Is there a great difference in the behavior of your fans in different countries or are they all as enthusiastic and excited as we are in the Netherlands?

BOBBIE EAKES: No, I think the Netherlands - well, not just the Netherlands -- the Scandanavian countries and the South Africans... I think they're the most enthusiastic fans.

Scr_Mom_ asks: Is there any chance of a CJ/Kimberly romance, which would put Sally and Myles at odds with each other? After all, CJ and Kimberly aren't blood relations.

BOBBIE EAKES: Absolutely. There's a big chance of that, I think. After all, Rick is married, and CJ, I think, has always had a crush on Kimberly. So I think that is a definite possibility. And Macy will be there... to sort of give advice :)

DigitalGirl99 asks: Is your job really fun? It seems really hard.

BOBBIE EAKES: It's mostly fun... and sometimes it's very hard. But what isn't in life? You have your ups and downs. I think the main thing is we should all be very grateful and feel fortunate that we're doing something we enjoy. I know I do. I feel very blessed.

Pjoergensen asks: Hi Bobbie, love your CD! Do you think you and Jeff will ever be on stage together again

BOBBIE EAKES: I hope so. We haven't had any invitations to do anything together as a team, but I'm hoping. We haven't seen each other in a long time, but maybe someone in Zimbabwe or something will call our managers and set something up. We had a lot of fun working together.

OFFSHORE420 asks: Bobbie, is it true that you have a crush on Howard Stern?

BOBBIE EAKES: Howard, is that you again? No, that's not true :) .

MT_Anne asks: Do you miss acting with "Grant"?

BOBBIE EAKES: I really do. It seems like years since we worked together and it really hasn't been that long. I just thought (Charles Grant, ex-Grant) was a really talented actor, and I was sorry to see that storyline end. It was short but sweet.

Bobbie4ever asks: Hi Bobbie. If you could sing any song to all of us right now, which one would it be?

BOBBIE EAKES: LOL. I guess I would sing my new single off my new CD, which will be available on QVC May 21, 22 & 23!

Pjoergensen asks: Was it fun hosting the European Soundmix show for 1998? Or [was it] just another day's work?

BOBBIE EAKES: That was a lot of fun. It was great to see these amazingly talented people. It was a final competition for all these talented singers from all over Europe, each one representing the best of their country. It was amazing. Some of the talents blew me away! I would love to do that again. It was sort of a challenge; Jeff had rewritten a lot of the script, and [it required] a lot of speaking in foreign languages. So it was challenging! He always has to take it one step beyond :)! And he did!

Isla_83 asks: What is the big difference between you and Macy? From Isla, Sweden.

BOBBIE EAKES: Hmmm.... I laugh a lot more than Macy does. And I can control my alcohol consumption :) ! Never been a big fan of Tequila like Macy was.

melarcel asks: Is there going to be any more interaction with Y&R?

BOBBIE EAKES: I hope so... I would love for J. Eddie Peck (Cole) to come over to my show. That would be good: Macy and Cole :)!

MT_Anne asks: Do you ever want your character to be a "bad" girl and do something really awful???

BOBBIE EAKES: Absolutely! I would love that -- just to be a real raving witch with a "b"! That would be fun. [Macy] started out that way 10 years ago, then they started writing her sweet, then neurotic. Maybe it's time to come full circle and be a real brat! Maybe she'll become jealous of her gorgeous little sister and have a real cat fight, like me and my sisters used to have over clothes or something.

weisha33 asks: Do you plan to stay with The Bold and the Beautiful?

BOBBIE EAKES: I do. It's worked really well with everything I like to do outside the show. It's a real symbiotic relationship; my singing career and acting career seem to work really well together. It's fine by me!

netdog24 asks: I love your hair. How do you get it that way? Who does your hair?

BOBBIE EAKES: I really do my hair. I don't do much to it. Several times I've had somebody do it at work. I really don't like to fit into the hair chair. It's usually the last thing I get done before I get out on stage. I can't sit still... and I really don't like my hair to look really "done". I think my character's a regular girl, not a salon type. I get rollers in and brush it out so it looks natural. Over the years I've had some real doozies so I don't know where you are in the show. Whenever I try something new it always feels like one of those God-awful prom hairdos to me!

smsgrl_00 asks: Hi Bobbie how are you doing ? It's really an honor to be able to speak with you !

BOBBIE EAKES: Well hello! Nice to talk to you too!

Bobbie4ever asks: Hi Bobbie. What countries do you plan on visiting on your European tour this summer?

BOBBIE EAKES: I believe everything is going to be finalized in the next few weeks. Probably Holland, Finland and Sweden and some of the Baltic states. There's a possibility of even going to St. Petersburg. They just called yesterday and they're going to start nailing down the itinerary.

koolkatt20 asks: Bobbie, I think you're a fantastic actress. Are you ever going to consider making a mainstream Hollywood movie?

BOBBIE EAKES: Well, I've been trying to get Steven Spielberg to cast me :). It's a whole different routine to get the time off to do a movie, especially a big feature. You'd need 2-3 months off. And if I took that time off I'd really want to put it into my music. [A movie] really doesn't fit into my game plan right now. If I had a big block of time I'd have my agent send me out for films, but that's not what I've been focusing on.

JAZZIGRL24 asks: Who is your favorite co~worker?

BOBBIE EAKES: Well, you know... hmmm... I like a lot of people on our show. I really do. And some that I like the most I don't even get to work with, like John McCook (Eric) and Susan Flannery (Stephanie). There's really no one that I dislike. We all get along pretty well. I'm probably closest to Schae Harrison (Darla). We used to live closer and we would go out, but now I'm married and live further away. Schae probably knows more about me than anyone else on the show.

agapedan asks: Bobbie, is your husband involved in your CD?

BOBBIE EAKES: He's very much involved. He pretty much manages my career outside of the soap: everything involved with getting me booked in Europe and other parts of the world and getting the CD released here on QVC, networking, etc. He's great about that. He never really wanted to be my manager, but it worked out that way, and it's easier for him to manage things than to hire someone else to do it. And he and I work very well together. It's nice to feel safe that someone is looking out for your best interests and knowing where the money is going. It's nice not to have a middle man and to know all this info. I know so many people and I hear the kind of deals they get, and I've done the same things and gotten [better] deals. You want to say, "Hey, you're getting ripped off," because it happens so often and it makes me sick.

cute_bobbie asks: How did David propose to you?

BOBBIE EAKES: Oh you know, in the usual romantic way: I was vacuuming, and he knocked on the door and didn't give me a chance to finish and shut it off, and he shouted out, "Will you marry me!?" Very romantic :).

JAZZIGRL24 asks: Do you like your on-screen sister Kimberly? Are you two friends?

BOBBIE EAKES: I am so crazy about her. I just think she's amazing. And if she weren't so nice, everyone would hate her because she's so gorgeous and talented. She's so nice. She's got so much on the ball, a real good person. She has a lot of values, her head on straight. She's gonna go places, she really is. And I can't believe she's only 16 years old! And she lives close to me, which is a coincidence because I live far from the studio. Her family is really nice. Needless to say, I think she's great.

gxma asks: Do you tape episodes for B&B that they use while you're away?

BOBBIE EAKES: No. Well, sometimes... but most of the time I just work closely with the producers and if I see a section of time that I'm not being used very much, I book promotional tours. Occasionally I have to ask for time off, and in that [case] you tape in advance or when you get back. I try not to ask for that because it's very difficult and can be expensive for the production. I just use my vacation time -- tell them I'm going to need to be off on such and such a date -- and it's worked out very well that way.

LisetteLalonde asks: Bobbie, you have a really great web site. Is it possible to put details of your trips to Europe there so we can always get the latest information?

BOBBIE EAKES: You might be talking about the fan club that's run from Europe. I personally don't have a web site, so I try to keep up with them and tell them what I'm doing. But I will be designing my own web page and having someone [maintain] it. I'm looking into that right now, an official web page. Hmmm….

jomatchett asks: If you were on a deserted island, what is the one thing you would miss most?

BOBBIE EAKES: My husband, I guess :). But if he were with me, I guess really good restaurants. That's where I spend way too much money: on good food.

mjhenery1999 asks: Hi, how do you keep such a great figure?

BOBBIE EAKES: Oh gosh... I'm really bad about yo-yoing. Sometimes it's okay, but sometimes you don't see it because the cameramen are nice and give you [flattering] angles. I try to work out. I've worked out the past few months with a trainer. I've just been eating so much! Since the Digest Awards, I've been pigging out. I worked to get into that dress, and now I'm pigging out and really paying for it :).

cute_bobbie asks: What's your favorite food? Mexican?

BOBBIE EAKES: No, I like... Mexican is not one of my favorites. I would say Italian or French food. I love garlic and basil and fresh tomatoes. I love cooking with fresh herbs. For me, with Mexican food, there are 99 things on the menu, but they all taste the same to me: it's cheese and beans and rice. I can definitely chow down on Mexican food, but if I want to enjoy a meal, I want something lighter with fresh ingredients. Fresh from the garden flavors. I guess Mexican is great when you go to gourmet Mexican restaurants, which I hear is great and a totally different story. I'm comparing Chez Louis to Taco Bell and that's really not fair :).

CuteMickie_98 asks: You've done more chats lately. Are you on the Internet yourself a lot?

BOBBIE EAKES: Yeah. I use the Internet for so much. I was just talking to John McCook's (Eric) wife about this.. I think it's an amazing research tool. I can look at things for hours. Time flies; I can spend hours at the computer. So if you want to research, find an item... it's amazing what you can see through the Internet, newsgroups and things. When my dog was ill -- she passed away in October -- I spent time online and talked to people who knew what I was going through. Every week I see new ways the Internet can help me. Even in traveling, going to different cities and countries, it's so invaluable.

Bobbie4ever asks: Hi Bobbie. Do you like traveling as much as you do?

BOBBIE EAKES: I love to travel. I think it's great, especially if you're going first class :)! My husband doesn't, but to me, and I hope he doesn't take this the wrong way, but when I'm by myself, it's relaxing. You take your shoes off and they serve you food -- and I like airline food (I'm one of the few!) -- and you just relax and catch up on a few movies and read... I enjoy it. And then once you're there, if it's an exciting place, great! If you're working, you find time to enjoy it. I would love to have some free time on one of these trips but it's hard to do. Maybe this summer I'll take a week off, and maybe David and I can take a second honeymoon. We haven't been on a vacation since our honeymoon in Bermuda. I think we're due :).

I would really love for everyone who loves me and cares to tune into QVC May 21-23. The CD will only be available on those dates. I'm really proud of that record. It will be a labor of love. I'll also be performing and doing some cuts from the album. I hope you like it and you'll buy it. It's the most important thing to me right now.

SODhost: Thank you, Bobbie! And thank you all for joining us!

BOBBIE EAKES: Thanks!

Bobbie's Final Thoughts On Saying Goodbye To Macy

After 11 years on THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL playing Macy, Bobbie Eakes' departure was bittersweet. "I always dreaded the day I would leave B&B. What would I do? Plus, it was so tough saying goodbye to the other actors on the set. However, I agreed with Brad (Bell, executive producer) that it was time for my character to move on."

Eakes won't have to worry much about what she is going to do after B&B: She's a hot property in Hollywood. Only days after wrapping on the B&B set, she was "contacted by another soap and looking into it." The actress has not ruled out a return to daytime. Even a return to B&B is possible as Macy's body was not found in the wreckage. The actress remarks, "The plan is to focus the next nine months on my music career. If the perfect opportunity comes up, I might consider another soap." Fans were shocked over Eakes' departure. In fact, after Update broke the story, we've been inundated with letters protesting the actress' exit.

Eakes' music career is definitely on the fast track to fame and fortune. This summer, she will be touring with country superstar Collin Raye. Between concert dates, Eakes will be finishing her debut country album for release in eaerly fall. "As hard as it was to leave B&B," the actress shares, "I'm excited about the opportunities ahead. I know that I am exactly where I am supposed to be." One thing is for sure: Eakes will be a star for a long time to come.

HOT TODAY

B&B's Bobbie Eakes

Macy contemplates taking a drink. Kimberly tries to stop Macy from drinking. Macy tries to save her marriage. Clarke asks Taylor to help with an intervention with Macy. Macy has a hang-nail.

Okay, so the part about the hang-nail isn't true. But looking at the plot breakdowns for BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL [or is that THE MACY SHOW] this week, it becomes apparent that just about everything else is happening to the always put-upon Macy.

And just what Macy needs...like a history of bad marriages, attempted murder, alcoholism, family feuds, losing a husband to cancer and infertility problems weren't enough, this week [and you might as well dub it Macy week] the actress who plays Macy with such a air of sweetness, vulnerability, likability and class is going to be tested now like never before.

If it seems Macy's world is crashing down around her, it is. And it's only going to get worse if the story continues on its present course.

That's why we're gladdened by the knowledge that Bobbie Eakes is in the pilot seat. For a decade, Bobbie Eakes has played Macy like nobody's business. Macy doesn't just sing the blues, she is the blues.

Bobbie Eakes, a former beauty queen, became a daytime star playing Macy and through all Macy's ups (she's had a few ... really) and downs (too numerous to count ... really) Eakes has always been a lively, watchable and appealing presence.

This week, she gets a well-deserved tour-de-force to showcase many of her skills. She cries, she whines (this is Macy after all) and she holds her head up high (or tries to. This is Macy after all.)

A year or so ago, B&B's writers were writing Macy with a little more strength. When she decided to run back with Thorne after the many times he has treated her like yesterday's garbage, we cringed at the idea that Macy again was going down the road of the victim.

But something interesting happened with the Macy/Brooke/Thorne triangle ... all three characters were invigorated (who woulda thunk it?) and the saga became all the more intriguing because of the back story that they brought to the table. And while much of the credit for the success of the story went to Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke) and Winsor Harmon (Thorne), Eakes' heart-breaking and tear-jerking work was front and center.

That's why Bobbie Eakes is hot today .. for all she does and for the roller coaster ride she has taken Macy, and the audience, on. Bravo, Bobbie.

Bobbie Eakes

Macy Alexander Forrester, The Bold and the Beautiful

For the past 11 years Bobbie Eakes, a former Miss Georgia, has poignantly brought to life the trials and tribulations of Macy Alexander Forrester, one of The Bold and the Beautiful's favorite heroines. Macy has been falsely accused of industrial espionage, battled alcoholism, lost a husband to cancer, survived throat cancer herself, had a psychotic lover... and the list goes on. The Thorne/Macy relationship has been a casualty of the Forrester/Spectra feud, but recently viewers were surprised when Thorne, rebounding from Brooke's "betrayal," remarried Macy.

Eakes, who is also a gifted singer, has achieved triple-platinum status with the CDs Bold and Beautiful Duets I and II overseas, which she recorded with pal and former B&B co-star Jeff Trachta (ex-Thorne). Eakes spoke to TV Guide Online about her character's past, her upcoming CD and the ultimate revenge Macy could inflict on Brooke. — Michael J. Maloney

Congratulations! Stephanie sure has done a turnaround on Macy.

Yes. Stephanie hates Brooke so much now. That alone has motivated her to want Macy and Thorne together.

Well, Macy's not the first daughter-in-law to win by default.

I guess so. Stephanie doesn't have many options other than to support Macy. The alternative is just a nightmare for her. I think most of her beef has been with Sally. Stephanie and Sally have even had scenes where they talk about how their adversity is based on business — not over personal matters. I think deep down Stephanie and Sally have a fondness for each other. And Stephanie has a fondness for Macy, too. She knows that Macy's not behind all the fashion-show fiascos.

You must be thrilled with the Macy/Thorne/Brooke triangle!

I am. It's a great storyline. I've actually been having a great year. I love working with Katherine [Kelly Lang, who plays Brooke] and Winsor [Harmon, who plays Thorne].

Winsor wasn't on very long before Thorne and Macy split up — by fax, no less.

That's right. We didn't work together much in the beginning at all. First, Thorne was with Claudia Cortez [played by Lilly Melgar], and then Taylor [played by Hunter Tylo]. I didn't work with Winsor for a couple of years. So this past year has been fun. We've had a lot of great scenes together. It's really to Winsor's credit that it's been going so well because it's a tough thing coming in replacing a popular actor [Trachta, who had previously played Thorne].

Are you in touch with Jeff?

Yes. I've kept up with him and he's doing really well. He'll always be working and doing something creative. He's a very talented guy.

You have done two CDs overseas that sold well. What's up with your music in the United States?

I'm on Columbia, which is a division of Sony, in Nashville. Really great things are happening [for me]. The president of Sony asked me to sing a duet with [country singer] Collin Raye. His current single is doing very well and then ours will be released after that, probably in May. I'll be opening for him next summer on his tour.

How will that work out with B&B?

Collin goes out Thursday through Sunday because he has kids. We're going to have to work with B&B, but I have a good feeling they'll work with me.

Do you have a solo CD in the works?

Yes. My record will follow that duet, and the duet will be on my record, too.

Some singers feel that they have to pick "cool" artists when asked about their musical influences, but you've never been afraid to tell the truth. You like The Carpenters!

(Laughs). It's true. I've never tried to hide the fact that I love pop music and artists like Elton John, Billy Joel, Aretha Franklin and The Carpenters. Growing up in Georgia I listened to a lot of Southern rock like .38 Special and Marshall Tucker. My dad would buy records by Loretta Lynn, Lynn Anderson and even Glen Campbell. I like instrumentals and jazz, too.

Is it true you got your SAG (Screen Actors Guild) union card by appearing in the last episode of Laverne & Shirley?

Yes. That was fun. My lines got cut, but I got my SAG card. It's really difficult. You can't work without it and you can't get it unless you work.

How was the remote in Venice?

It was fabulous. We had a great week. Venice is probably one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world. You really get to bond with the rest of the cast and crew when you go on remote. We missed a connection at one point and had to take a bus, and it was like a field trip. We laughed the whole time. We had the perfect weather. I read where [Y&R executive producer] Ed Scott said something [in a magazine] about the weather being bad, but I guess he was joking because Y&R didn't get to go Venice! We had sunshine all week long except for the one day we needed rain and we got rain. [Laughs] We thought, "How does Brad [Bell, B&B's executive producer] do that?"

You've had a lot of leading men over the years including Jeff, Winsor, Michael Sabatino, Charles Grant, Brent Jasmer (ex-Anthony, ex-Grant and ex-Sly, respectively)…. I won't ask you who the best kisser was, but I will ask you about a pairing the show has never tried — Macy and Ridge. Any thoughts?

I think it would have some nice potential. Ronn [Moss, who plays Ridge] and I really like each other a lot. We've talked about it. John McCook [who plays Eric], too. It would be hard to do either of those in some respects. Katherine, to her credit, has had her character paired with three Forrester men and Brooke is still considered a sympathetic character. She's great at that. I'd love to work with Ronn, but I think his character's going down a different road right now. Down the line, however, it would be great revenge that Macy could have against Brooke.
