
You are never going to mistake the Eastern Sierra's for the Smokies. Yet here and there where there is water, the California sun helps bolster vibrant communties of plants. You have to keep in mind that the eastern edge of this range is, for all intents and purposes, a desert. So even though this small patch of green may not look very impressive to eastern eyes, it is a startling contrast to the parched slopes below and the wind-scoured stretches above.
