USS Charleston NCC-70570
Posting Style
Back On a typical sub-plot story line, you can expect approximately 40 posts/reply posts using the Game Masters style v. the Game Managers. Although this creates a 'clutter' of posting, it is very helpful in keeping all the players active and envolved, and also helps to 'jump start' the new player, allowing the rookie the opportunity of learning how to post and reply without feeling left out of the story plot. The Posting format key is below:
[Whetstone] <--- Use brackets to tell who's speaking! A Short Posting Example
[Strickland]
The USS Charleston NCC-70570 uses the Game Masters format for posting.
Below is a comparision of the Game Masters V. Game Managers style.
Game Master A PBeM RPG using a Game Master (GM) is substantally different from that of the Game Manager format. In a GM format, a character acts out and develops his character in much the same way as you would act yourself in real life. When interacting with other crewman, you request a responce from that player. If you are doing a task, for example, doing a diagnostic of the Warp Core, your character should ask for the results, which the Game Master shall supply.
Game Manager A PBeM RPG using a Game Manager, also abreiviated by GM, has a much more freely run setup. Characters can make up other character's responce to their questions and situations. It is much more like writing a book than playing an interactive RPG game. In the previous example of the diagnostic of the warp core, your chacter would make up the results, without needing a responce from the Game Manager.
~If your character is thinking something.. Use the tilde.~
("Use parenthesis to indicate something said in a whisper")
"Always quote the speaker!"
!"if your character is shouting, use exclamations"!
::Double colons should enclose actions.::
+COM: This should precede any spoken text to indicate that you are using a communicator to talk to someone who is not within speaking range.
<< RESULTS >> <--- Use this to let the GM know you need results!
<< Respond - Whoever >> <-- Use this to let other players know you need a response from them!
OOC: To add an out of character note, precede text with OOC (Out Of Character)
An example of a closing tag for all posts:
Ensign Jericho Gilmore <---Rank followed by character's name
Transporter Chief <----Position of character aboard ship
USS Charleston NCC-70570 <----Ship that the character serves on
"Sir, our flight plan is still laid in for Starbase 114. Flight deck is being handled by Ensign Rainsford, and the conn is being watched by Ensign
Wetherby. Why do you ask sir?"

Galen's reply post
[Galen]
::Tries to give her a re-assurring smile::
"Just wanted to make sure that everything was in good hands."
::Looks around, with a outwardly bored expression on his dark face, his braids swishing slightly thanks to the coral beads going down his hair from the nape of the neck down::
~Rainsford and Wetherby....not too bad a choices...decent for tonight on Delta Watch, I guess....~
"Lieutenant Strickland, are you sure you would not rather be down at the party than up here? If you wish, you could go down there for an hour or so, and I'll stand watch up here....after all, it's not like the party really needs me down there."
::Smiles tightly again and runs one hand slowly along the currently unmanned tactical board::

Another reply to this post would come from Strickland and the GM. This setup would continue, perhaps for months, before the storyline is eventually wrapped up.
