Commander Cassie Knight
I first met John when I joined the USS Sunfire not all that long after it had launched. During the time that I was on the Sunfire, John helped me out on several postings by giving me idea's on what to post and was even willing to do joint postings on occassion. Over time he and I became friends both in the sim world and outside of simming. I can still see the post in my head that we did together on when John's character of T'Maekh t'Lennex asked my character of Cassie Knight to marry him. At the time we had just completed a mission on the Sunfire and the crew meet up on one of the Holodecks to have some fun for awhile. Then not long after another mission, we had fun in doing the wedding postings for both Lennex and Cassie. The setting for the wedding down on a planet during shoreleave. It was an out door wedding near the beach.
When John decided to move his character of Lennex over to Starbase 10, I wanted to try and keep Cassie with Lennex if at all possible. I remember when Zach asked if I wanted to join Starbase 10. I was happy to help him out in getting Starbase 10 started, but it also ment that I could still sim with John and have Cassie and Lennex together still as a family, for their baby would be born soon.
During the time that I got to know John, he always set high standards in the postings that he did on both the Sunfire and over on Starbase 10. He always perferred Novel style of posting over Script. John felt that Novel style was more creative on postings and that using the Script style was the easy way out of doing a posting. Whenever John would post, he would always try to use as many people as he could in the post and it was always action packed in area's when it was needed. There was always something that the next person could use in their own postings once John got his done and sent through for everyone to read.
When John and I would talk on line through IM's he was always fun to talk to, even when he was tired after a long day we would still chat a little before he headed off to bed. He never minded the silly attacks I would pull on him and would always laugh when I started them on him and going on into silly mode with him some as well. One day while we were chatting some, John was surprised when I asked him about his broken leg. He hadn't told anyone yet other than Lee/West and wanted to know how I knew about his broken leg. I told John that Lee/West had sent me a copy of the email he was sent from John about him breaking his leg. John was surprised about that, but laughed some anyway once I started getting onto him a little about breaking his leg. John knew how to laugh at himself at times and he wasn't afraid to show it.
When John and I started talking about names for Cassie and Lennex's baby, we went through several names. I had told him that I would like for the name to show both sides of the baby's heritage. So we already knew that the baby's last name would be tr'Lennex. We just had to figure out the first name for the baby. After a little time, John threw out the name of Sarah Ann. I liked the name, so we decided to go with the name of Sarah Ann tr'Lennex for Cassie & Lennex's daughter. Once we had decided on the name, I found out after a little more talking with John that the name of Sarah Ann was the name for one of his grandmothers. I felt the name was fitting since it was part of John.
For awhile there, I hadn't seen John on line and started to get worried about him. I tried emailing him several times, but never got any response. Come to find out it was how I was typing his email address in the send to spot and he wasn't getting the emails. Once I had gotten that corrected he started getting the emails. One night real late when I was still on line, I saw John come on line. When I IM'd him, he was surprised to see that I was still on line so late. We chatted for a little while before I headed off to bed to get some sleep. He wasn't going to be on line that much longer either. He was just going to check emails before heading to bed himself. That night was the last time, I got to chat with John on line.
I will forever miss John. It is still so hard to believe that he is no longer with us here. I know that one day we will meet up with John at the gates in heaven. Then we can sit around and have an actual sim there in person with all of our characters and talk about the love we all have of Star Trek.
