Udang Oil Rigs, Seven Skies Wreck and the Anambas Islands, Indonesia, June 2002 Page 1

Udang oil rig.

Two disused oil rigs have become home to incredible soft coral life. Literally the entire surface area of the supports is covered.

This liveaboard trip visited islands of the Amambas group, the two Udang oil rigs in Indonesian waters and the Seven Skies Wreck (which is in Malaysian waters I think). The boat left from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal in Singapore.

Udang oil rigs. Clearly they look more attractive under the water than on the surface!

The rigs are about 100 metres above the sea floor, but when diving, the bottom is not visible.

Anemone.

Soft coral. Sinularia sp.

This coral is also called "dead man's fingers."

Sea Star, clinging onto one of the support columns. 5cm across.

Granulated Sea Star. Anambas islands.

Jellyfish.

This jellyfish has a 1 metre trail of stinging tentacles and was spotted during the safety stop, coming up from the Seven Skies wreck.

Jellyfish. Not sure if this one was resting, dying or eating, but it was on the sea bed near the Anambas islands. About the size of a small football, 20cm across.

Jellyfish. Brown spotted jellyfish spotted in great numbers inbetween the surface and 5m, approximately 10cm across. Damar island.
