FIRST CITY, REYDOVAN PRIME (28 December 2502): Just four days shy of the New Year, another great Reydovan leader, promising to lead his people into the future, has died. The flag of the Republic was flown at half-mast as the news of the untimely death of Chancellor Jeremiah Neill spread to the populace.
Neill was visiting the ruined city of Tiberianopolis, the capital of Tiberius Prime, for Project Reconstruction yesterday when the last remnants of the Imperial Army shot him three times in the back. He was taken aboard the Atrus and rushed to the nearest hospital, on Belle Terre. He died at 6:40pm Reydovan Standard Time.
As of now, Commanding Admiral Joshua Underwood, currently on L'nhraei, is not aware of Chancellor Neill's death, nor of the Chancellor's deputy, General Daniel Longstreet, pulling out of the Chancellorial election. As of today, Admiral Underwood is once again the Reydovan Chancellor and will lead the Twelve Worlds into 2503 - and into the Commonwealth.
The original law for the office of Chancellor has been reinstituted by the Republic Congress. The law, as follows: "The Chancellor, once elected to his office, will serve in his position for an unlimited term until the day he resigns or passes away. In either of these events, the election of a new Chancellor will take place and the cycle will continue thus."
The Atrus is en route to L'nhraei to present the news, and the flag of the Chancellor, to Admiral Underwood.
