CH'TAALA, L'NHRAEI - Capital of the L'nhraei Commonwealth of Planets (7 October 2502): Reydovan Chancellor Joshua Underwood arrived at the home of L'nhraei Commonwealth President John Macpherson late last night, surrounded by citizens of ch'Taala, the capital of the Commonwealth.
Underwood recently appointed Deputy Foreign Minister Jeremiah Neill to serve as the Republic Ambasssador to the Commonwealth. The Chancellor's longtime contact, Commonwealth Ambassador Natasha Stuart, led both men to the Presidential palace after clearing them through Immigration. It is not entirely clear what the Chancellor and President Macpherson are going to speak on, but it's rumored that Underwood will bring up the subject of a Commonwealth/Republic merger. We cannot confirm or deny at this time.
Both men are in good spirits. On the subject of the Immigration services: "With that screw-up from Ambassador Xshanks not too long ago, it's no wonder they don't adhere to diplomatic immunity," Underwood joked. On a serious note, about the reception: "The people are warm and generous here," Neill observed. "I was expecting a somewhat more quiet reception with the President himself, but this....this welcome from the people of ch'Taala just shocked me. I think this is a first step to better relations with the Commonwealth."
Chancellor Underwood originally served as Imperial Ambassador to the Commonwealth as well as the Empire's representative in the IAP Council at Starbase Tranquility. When he was elected Chancellor last June, he felt that he was being overworked. It took him over a year to respond to this, and he appointed Ambassador Neill the official representative to the Commonwealth. He and Ambassador Stuart will be meeting on regular occasions to discuss relations between the two nations.
