Posting Guidelines

There are just a very few guidelines that are all easy to follow. These will help us all enjoy the sim more and will prevent any potential problems in the future.

Make sure all content is suitable.

The USS Potomac is rated PG-13. Make sure all content is appropriate for a movie rated thusly. Keep the following in check:

  • Excessivly foul language
  • Excessive violence
  • Adult content

I do not view it as my job to be a censor or moral authority for the crew. But I feel a responsibility to keep the content at a level where people of all ages and mindsets can join us without feeling uncomfortable or offended.

When you are in doubt ask yourself, "Would this ever happen in a televised Star Trek episode or in a Star Trek movie?" If the answer is "No, it would not," then don't post it.

When there is a violation of the guidelines I will work with you to find the correct level of response. Possible reactions to breaking the guidelines:

  • Warning and a reminder about content guidelines.
  • Voiding the entire post that contained the material (even the non-offensive parts).
  • Kicking the offender off the ship and killing their character off in a really stupid manner if they persist after correction.

I’ve been simming for about a year and a half now. Only on two or three occasions were there any problems with the above guidelines. I don’t foresee any problems at all but it is best to put everything in writing just to be on the safe side.

Be careful in posting something that will have a major change on another character.

Do not post anything that will have a major change on another person’s character without their consent. You are permitted and encouraged to use and post about events that don’t necessarily circle around your character. Use good judgment when writing something that would constitute a permanent change for another character.

If you post something that re-defines the character of another and they really don’t like what you’ve done it will, generally, be voided.

How simultaneous posts will be dealt with.

As this sim is conducted entirely through e-mail and as e-mail isn’t always delivered immediately we may encounter a situation where two people sent a post at roughly the same time that deals with the same situation independently of each other.

When this happens the posts are to be considered and, if possible, both will count if only very minor modifications to one or the other is needed to create a logical string of events.

But if both cannot coexist then one must be voided. To be neutral, fair, and objective the one sent first counts and the second one is void. This is determined solely by which one is listed first in the yahoogroup.

These are the only guidelines one must use in posting. Feel free to email me with any questions, comments, or suggestions. If, at any point, you feel my judgment is lacking contact me first. If this fails to resolve your problem contact Rear-Adm. Seldon (Seldon11988@yahoo.com) to follow up your complaint. Whenever possible keep e-mail records to document your situation.
