For 6 years, local members of PCL, and several on line organizations helped with the Girl Scout Coin Collection Project. Well, we have done what we can, and are starting over the a new younger troop. Pack #526, Bear Cubs Den #1, of Iron Mountain, Michigan.
Many mistakes were made the first time we did this, and we have learned from those mistakes. This Den will only be given inexpensive Coins, no Valuable coins will make it to the troop(I will cover such items later).
This troop currently has five 8-9 year olds in it, but we are working on 8 groups as others are expected to join as time goes by. We ask that should you choose to send coins to this troop, that nothing be worth more than $1(US), and no silver coins above 0.22 asw. The reason for these restrictions are simple, these are small children, with virtually no concept of value.
As for coins worth more than $1, or above 0.22 asw, they will be sold to raise funds for Mylars, Slide Pages, binders, and bulk world coins, or US Coin Grab Bags. Yes, it is very possible that some of these coins may be bought by PCL, or some of it's Investors, but these people will be paying the Scout Troop FULL catalog value, so theres nothing shady going on.
Periodically, there will be an auction posted under my ID, Coindude1, which is specifically intended to buy such material, as we would like to see each boy provided with supplies for a 500 piece World Coin Collection( a 3" 3 ring binder, 500 mylars, 25 slide pages, a roll of tape, a pen, and everything must be multiplied by 8), we will need to raise $200 before they actually get any coins.
The Girl Scout Troop had a blast with this, and we are hoping these little guys get the 'coin bug' too. The coins they recieve at thier meetings will be tied to lessons and themes as set by thier Den Leader.
If you are interested in donating coins, or a few dollars to this project, please contact me at coindude1@charter.net
I would like to thank those who have donated to this so far, Traci, my Manager at work(Cash), and Avenue Card & Coins out of Green Bay(Buffalo Nickles) and Coindude1(Indian cents), of E-bay.
Oh yes, if you have an old Krause laying around...
