Historical Notes from the Memoirs
of Admiral Joshua Underwood:

The Mary Demetri Anderson (NCC-1948) was launched in 2291 under the command of the genetically engineered Admiral Joshua Underwood, who commanded her until his transfer to the dreadnought Kil'jaeden in 2292. She was commanded by Captain Antoine "Tony" DeSalle, formerly of the cutter Republic, for a year afterwards. The Mary D, as she's affectionately known, was involved in several battles involving the Romulans and the mirror universe Terran Empire. The Mary D and the Kil'jaeden were the only two members of Underwood's squadron to survive the battle at Earth in 2293. This battle resulted in the deaths of DeSalle and his bridge crew, when the captain piloted his near-crippled ship into the Imperial flagship Invincible, leaving it open to Kil'jaeden's guns.

After the ship was decommissioned in 2293, it was placed as it was in the Starfleet Museum, where it remained for a century. In 2379, Admiral Underwood's dockyard staff at Starbase Clannad repaired and refitted the Mary D and relaunched her as a destroyer in 2381 under the command of Underwood's chosen successor, Commodore Jeremiah Neill. The Mary D was outfitted to command Underwood's destroyer group during the wars with the Gorn Kingdom in 2385, the neo-Soviet Red Faction (human and Cardassian terrorists) in 2387 and the fascist Third Galactic Imperium, a merge between human terrorist nations and the Romulan Empire, in 2390.
