Pyramids
are stone structures that require stone blocks, men and and plenty of time.
Blocks were very difficult to carry because they could
weigh as much as 2.3 tonnes. They came by boat and were made of limestone.
It was
cut with chisels and saws and each of them was to be chipped so it would fit
perfectly in the pyramid. Strenuous men worked days and nights without rest
and were very tired. Over 100,000 men worked on each pyramid that are probably
still standing now. They had to drag blocks and build ramps to drag stones up
as the pyramid got higher.
Archaeologists guessed that ancient Egyptians
used ramps to help them pull heavy stone blocks up the different levels of
the pyramids. As the pyramid grew taller, the number of blocks decreased and the ramp had to lengthen.
Not only that, but the base also had to be
widened, or else, the ramp would collapse. It was very likely that many ramps
were used for the construction of the pyramids. In ancient Egypt, this was
an exhausting and time-consuming job for the Egyptian slaves. However, in modern
days, we are able to use machines to help us do such kinds of jobs. Even now,
we still have difficulties in building such an incredible
infrastructure.
Pyramids
were elaborate to build because it required lots of materials and hard work.
