Chinese MP3 of the Moment
|
Li Zheng Xian / Lee Jung Hyun (Click image for an *ahem* close up) Ni
This is not a Chinese song at all - but with a dance scene as abysmal as is found in China, it's no wonder Li Zheng Xian (whose real name in Korean is Lee Jung Hyun) is the favourite of every DJ here - and with that hair and figure, she is certainly the source of many a Chinese businessman's autoerotic frustrations. Korean music is a shocking blend of Happy Hardcore (the only kind of dance music that exists in China) and anything they can leech off the American pirated CDs circulated through Seoul. In the early days of the Korean pop revolution, bands like Clon imitated Yankee rap and street music - now boybands like H.O.T. (High-five Of Teenagers - ugh) mimic the Backstreet Boys with a little Korean hard rock beat. Li Zheng Xian just flutters around stage looking sexy and screaming at her little finger where she conceals her trademark microphone, going beserk in that high-pitched bad little Asian girl voice of hers. She attempts Metal and other genres, and does a passable job. She tends to be infectious, and once I worked out the synth riff for this track on my guitar I couldn't stop playing it for hours - maybe I was brainwashed by all those hours in Shenyang taxi cabs being cheated, listening to it on the radio - there's a station that fears dead air so much that they play Ni fading in and out between sentences, on repeat for hours on end.
