In the dark, a million things could happen, and she’s conscious of him standing beside her. Their hands brush against each other and she leans into him, longing for more. In the dark, senses become finely tuned - she can hear his breathing over the sounds of the machine failing. The sparks and crackles represent all that exists between them.
He grips her hand tighter.
Hearing the hum and tell-tale click she reluctantly lets go. Seconds later the emergency lights come on and there are suddenly two other people in the room. At least in the dark they were alone.
