Summery: The Title says it all
By Onnieeca Nicolle
To a
Time Of So Many Trials
Prologue
“It’s
beautiful,” Captain Janeway, thought as she looked around at a city on a
planet called Aatro. The city was truly beautiful. There were small shops and
houses that were painted pastel blues, greens, and pinks. There were flowers
everywhere all neatly kept up. “Kathryn” a
voice intruded in to the pleasant dream like state she was in. “Yes” Shall we head to
the capital building? A tall dark man said looking at her. “Of course
Chakotay we should. I was just admiring the site of this place. It’s just so
beautiful.” “ I know it is
very beautiful.” He said not looking at the scenery. “Not me the scenery,” “ Sorry I
couldn’t help my self” They started to
head up to the capital building side by side with Tom, and B’Elanna behind
them completely oblivious to the conversation that was said just seconds before
the had arrived. “Tom?”
B’Elanna asked softly so the two people in front of her did not here, “was
it just me or did the Captain seem to be blushing when we arrived.” “You know
B’Elanna I think your right she did seem to be blushing didn’t she.” “I wonder
why.” “Me to” “Were here”
Captain Janeway, said well stopping in front of a large building that’s
outside was light blue and decorated with many flowers and intricate carvings. “Captain,”
a large man with slight cranial ridges over his eyebrows said stepping down from
a porch in front of the building “so good for you to have been able to make
it.” “First
chancellor Antoon, thank you for inviting us. I do believe you know Commander
Chakotay,” she gestured to Chakotay who was standing to her left side, “and
this is my chief engineer and my helmsmen Lt. B’Elanna Tories and Lt. Tom
Paris.” She gestured to each one. “Please to
meet you and thank you once again for coming.” “Thank you
for inviting us. This is quit a lovely city you have.” Janeway smiled. The
small group of Voyager crew members flowed the chancellor to the dinning hall
were they enjoyed a fine meal prepared by there host then proceeded back to the
porch that the chancellor first came off of. “Thank you,
once again the meal was lovely and well prepared.” Janeway smiled. “It was no
–problem captain, and it was very pleasant to have the four of yours company,
and if you would like your crew and you may take shore leave, as you call it,
down here and you are free to ask of us any thing you may need for your journey
home, to Earth.” The chancellor said. “ Thank you
once again for you kindness and hospitality, but we really must be going back to
Voyager before it gets to much later however I look forward to spending some
more time on your lovely planet.” With that they said their goodbyes and
returned to Voyager. Be bop “Come in”
captain Janeway said seating at her desk in her ready room, with a pile of pads
scattered about it. She looked up after hearing the door open and close.
“Chakotay” “Kathryn”
he said looking at her. “Is there
something wrong” “No, not at
all I just wanted to came and tell you what time it is.” “Oo dinner it
completely slipped my mind. I have been so busy working on these crew rotations
for shore leave that I for got. Well just let me put these pads up and then we
can go to the mess hall and get some dinner.” “That will be
rather difficult considering that Neelix started serving breakfast 10 min.
ago.” “That
late.” Chakotay nodded “Then why
didn’t you come to get me sooner.” “To tell you
the truth I forgot also and feel asleep.” “I haven’t
slept all night. Next time I say that I want to do the crew rotations stop me
and you do them. I don’t see how you get them done so quickly.” “I have a
system.” “A system
really, would you like to clue me in to it.” “Not
really” “Well then
you can finish these.” She handed him the pad she was working with. “Ok I’ll
have them done in no time.” “All right
then why don’t we go to my quarters and have some breakfast. Since neither of
us has eaten in about 18 hours.” “Sounds grate
to me on one condition.” “And what
would that be?” “I cook” “Fine by me,
I really don’t feel up to having to go to sick bay any time to day.” “Ok let’s
go” All right after
you” she said gesturing to the door “No ladies
first” he smiled “No, you go
first. I’m the captain and I say you go first” “All right”
he said walking out of the door with Janeway shooting him a look that he knew
stood for ‘you’re incorrigible Chakotay’. In Kathryn’s
quarters Chakotay was in her kitchen making breakfast. “So Kathryn
what would you like to have.” “How about
something I haven’t had in a while, strawberry waffles with wiped cream. O yea
don’t for get the coffee.” “All right
that sounds great, but I still think you drink to much of that stuff.” “O Chakotay,
don’t lecture me about drinking coffee today I’m to tired for it” “Ok Kathryn I
won’t” Chakotay said bringing out two plates of waffles with strawberries
and wipe cream on top and a large cup of hot coffee. “Here we go” he put the
coffee and a plate in front of her then put a plate where he was going to sit
and went back to the kitchen and came back with a glass of orange juice and sat
down. “This look
delouses.” She said tasting it “it taste great to.” “Thank you”
Chakotay said well starting to eat his food. Through the course of the meal they
talked about the sip, the crew, and other things. After they were done Chakotay
picked up the plates and went in the kitchen to clean up his mess. Kathryn went
in to the living room and sat on the couch and made herself comfortable. “You know
Kathryn” Chakotay yelled from the kitchen “ I was thinking that for our
shore leave we could stay at one of the cabins by the lake for a couple of days.
What do you think?” There was no
answer from the other room. “Kathryn,”
Chakotay said walking out of the kitchen. “Kathryn” He noticed her
curled up on the couch sound asleep. He smiled to him self and secretly wished
he had a holocam with him. Then he went over and picked her up and took her to
her bed. He took off her socks; shoes, combadge and jacket so that she would be
comfortable then pulled the covers over her. Before he left he kissed her
forehead and said, “Sleep well my sweet.” Then left the room not before
stopping to look at her sleeping form. On the bridge
Chakotay informed Tuvok that captain Janeway would not be in until later that
day do to the fact that she stayed up the whole night working on the crew
rotations and needed to get some sleep. After informing Tuvok he went to his
office to work on the plans fore the Captain and his shore leave. After he was
done planning their shore leave he finished up the crew rotations. Just as he
finished the door alarm sounded. “Come in”
he called the door swooshed open to revel captain Janeway. “Captain what
can I do for you.” He asked putting on a show for the nosey crewmembers that
were on the bridge. Janeway walked the rest of the way in to his office so that
the door would close. She seemed to act just a little shy, kind of if she were
shy about asking something. “Kathryn,” Chakotay said. “What’s wrong?” “Nothing, no
it’s just that….” “Just
what?” he probed. “It’s
just,” she looked down at her feet then back up to him, “it’s just.” Chakotay was
now getting worried it wasn’t like her to act so shy or nervous. “Kathryn what
ever it is you can tell me.” He told her wale walking over to her and taking
her hands. The look on her face was one that he never had seen before. It was
almost as if she were a child again. A child yes, she looked as if she were a
child about to tell her parents something, something she wasn’t sure that they
would like. “Kathryn?” She looked at
him again then away. She looked at him once more this time she looked as if she
were about to cry. She didn’t say anything just looked at him for a long
moment, then turned around and walked out of the door. Crossing the bridge she
put her hand to her fore head and rubbed her temples. She did not speak to any
one or look up she just walked across the bridge then disappeared in to her
ready room, leaving a very concerned Chakotay, and baffled crewmembers in her
wake. “Tom,”
Harry whispered “Yes” he
responded “What do you
think went on in there she looked as if she were about to cry.” “I know, I
wonder what’s wrong, or what Chakotay did to her.” “Me to” In her ready
room Janeway broke down just after the doors had closed behind her. “How could
I not have told him?” She said to her self “It has to do with him to.” Chirp the COM
sounded “Doctor to Janeway” She quickly
regained her composure enough to talk to him all though she knew he would be
able to tell that she was crying when he had called. “Yes
doctor.” “Once you are
done telling the commander you should return to you quarters and rest some more
your body needs it.” The doctor’s
voice was full of sympathy. “Yes of
course Doctor, I will.” After she had composed herself enough she left her
ready room and walked in to the turbo left. “I’ll be in my quarters, and
I’m not to be disturbed until further notice.” With that the doors closed
and she returned to her quarters. Once inside her
quarters she started to cry again. She went over to her couch and curled up, and
cried. She cried like that for a couple of hours before falling asleep from
exhaustion. At dinnertime
Chakotay went to the mess hall alone even though it was Friday and Janeway and
Chakotay always had dinner in the mess hall together on Friday. He sat down at
their usual table in the corner after getting his meal. B’Elanna came
up to him. “So what did you do to the captain?” “What” “What did you
do to her this afternoon rumor has it she walked in to your office this
afternoon was in there for a little while then came out looking as if she were
about to cry. Then she went in to her ready room and came out about 20min. later
and went to her quarters and told no one to disturber her. So I’m wondering
what you did.” “I don’t
know what I did, or what’s wrong. All I know was that she was fine this
morning at breakfast. After we were done eating I was cleaning up and she fell
asleep on her couch. I put her in her bed so that she wouldn’t wake up with a
bad back ace then left. She came in to my office about 5 hours later. Something
was really bothering her and she wouldn’t tell me. She just left. I tried to
call her and ask her is she was still up for dinner but she was asleep and I
didn’t want to wake her up. But I’m really worried about her. I have no idea
what is bothering her. I wish she had told me.” “So you
didn’t do any thing.” “No” “In that case
she’ll tell you pretty soon she always dose.” “Your right,
but it is still bugging me.” “I know but
she will tell you.” “Thanks
‘Lanna.” “Don’t
mention it.” She said and left.
