I held Your Hand Today

I held your hand today,
I thought you would finally tell me,
Those words my heart longs to see,
But you turned your head away.

I held your hand today
All I wanted was to kiss you,
All I wanted was to hear the words I do.
But it was those words you did not say.

I held your hand today,
I let you have your distance,
This is worst then a death sentence
You’ll come around, soon, I pray.

I held your hand today,
Just as a friend,
Not wishing it would end,
Just to make sure you were ok

I held your hand today
I watched tears stream down your face,
They seem to be in a race,
And comforting words I did say.

I held your hand today,
I was there,
When you were in despair,
I’m here to tell you to size the day.

I held you hand today
As you cried,
Because your hope died
It was the twentieth of May.

I held your hand today
I told you it wasn’t your fault,
I asked if I could get you a malt,
You shook your head in dismay.

I held your hand today
I gave you my advice,
And held your hand like I was a vice
So I sat and I held your hand today.
