Simple Gifts

THE CREW FINDS OUT

 "B'Elanna I am serious I saw them kissing in the corridor."

     "Tom I know that you are trying to win the pole that you have set up but making up stories that aren't true is not the way to do it."

     "I'm not kidding. She said good night to him and that she would see him tomorrow and kissed him then went in to her quarters."

     "Ok Tom, suppose that they have been going out. What is next are you going to say that she is going to have a baby and that is the resign that she is off duty for a few days?"

     "You know that is a good theory."

     "Tom," B'Elanna said while shaking her head. "You can think what you like but now I have to get my work done and I tell you she is not pregnant."

     "Fine " Tom said and then went to his quarters.

     The next morning captain Janeway got dressed in a pair of simple sweats and headed to sickbay.

     "Good morning captain," the doctor, said a little to cheerful, "how are you this morning"

     "Never been better can we just get on with this"?

     "Of coarse Please lay down," Captain Janeway leaned back on the bio bed, "Ok this will only take a few minuets"

     "Ok doctor and I'm sorry for snapping at you"

     "O that is all right not guilty on the grounds of hormones. Now just hold still"

About 5 minuets letter

     "There we go all done," the doctor said putting up his interments, "I will be back in a few minuets."

As the doctor disappeared in to his office Chakotay came in through the sick bay doors, and went straight to Kathryn.

     "Hey" he said embracing her in a hug.

     "Hey, the doctor will be out in a few minuets with the results"

     "Ok" he hugged her again.

The doctor came out of his office. "Ah commander you're here I was just about to call you."

     "So how are they"? He inquired.

     "Let me be the first to congratulate you both."

     "Is it a boy or a girl"?

     "No" she interrupted "don't tell us I want to be surprised."

     "Ok, all though we have all ready been surprised." he said.

     "The baby is in perfect health, but I still want you to come in once a week for a check up because you are a little older then most women that have babies."

     "Yes doctor."

Tom who had walked in sickbay to deliver a pad to the doctor over heard the last part of the conversation turned around and headed to engineering to tell B'Elanna what he heard this time.

     "Not again Tom." B'Elanna said now getting annoyed.

     "I'm telling you she is I heard her and Chakotay talking in sick bay this morning."

     "Ok let's see if she has been in sick bay this morning. Computer locate captain Janeway" she called

     CAPTAIN JANEWAY IS IN HER QUTEARS.

     "Has she been in sickbay at all today"

     NEAGTIVE

     "Tom"

     "She was"

     "Ok I am not going to argue with you. You believe what you want and I will believe what I want to"

     "But"

     "Bye Tom" with that she walked off leavening a speechless Tom in her wake.

Mean wheal back in sickbay

     "Kathryn do you want to go to the mess hall."

     "I would love to but Chakotay do you mind if we swing by my quarters first."

     "Sure but can I ask why?"

     "I need to pick up my comm badge. I left it there in case some one inquired where I was."

     "Good one"

They stopped out side her quarters.

     "I'll just be a moment." she kissed him then disappeared. About 2 min. later she repapered "got it now we can go."

In the mess hall B'Elanna came up to them "Captain, Commander sorry to interrupt but he came up to me in engineering again. He said that he had heard you in sick bay."

     "What did you tell him' Janeway asked. See B'Elanna new because she and the commander and the Captain were all really good friends. She new that they had been going out for some time and they all were trying to keep tom from finding out until they wanted the rest of the crew to know. After he had left she had contacted them and they told her about the pregnancy.

     "I asked the computer where you were knowing full well where you were and knowing that you had left you comm badge in your quarters." Then I left him and came here to eat."

     "Thank you B'Elanna we couldn't have a better friend." Chakotay said.

     "Tomorrow I will tell the rest of the crew at the staff meeting." Janeway said.

The Next morning Captain Janeway woke up and ran to the bathroom. When She emerged she called the doctor to see if he could send a hypospry to her replicator. After she got it she got dressed and put her hair up in to her command bun and headed for the bridge. She walked on and sat in here Chair. When the commander came on the bridge he walked by and said "good morning Captain it is goo to see that you are felling better" then took his seat. He then handed her a pad, it was a list of baby names for boys and girls. She smiled knowing that in less then a half hour the whole ship would know. Tom who had been watching her ever sense she had walked on the bridge was wondering what was on the pad that made her smile.

When the meeting started Tuvok went first. Then it followed through the rest of the crew until every one had reported. At the end the captain stood up and walked behind Chakotay's chair.

     "There is just one more thing on the agenda for to day. The Commander and I would like to say that." She paused, "well we would like to say that we are going to be having a baby" instantly all most every ones face changed.  The Captain and commander had smiles that reached from ear to ear. Seven and Tuvok raised there eyebrows. B'Elanna and the doctor just sat in there chairs and smiled because they all ready knew. Tom had a face that was a mix of disbelief and shock. After it sank in every one with the exception of B'Elanna and the doctor gave their congratulations.

     "B'Elanna aren't you going to congratulate them," Tom asked.

     "I all ready did."

     "You mean you knew."

     "Yea" 

     "Then why didn't you tell me?"

     "Because I promised them I wouldn't tell you or anyone else."

     "Ok I understand" he smiled then walked out of the briefing room.
