PsiPogNewbies : Introduction

So you're new to the world of psionics! How exciting! I remember when I first started playing around with psi - ah, the good 'ol days . If you're just starting out, you might not exactly know what you're getting into, and what we (the teachers, and the community) expect of you. Hopefully this section will help you weigh the pros and cons of being a psion, and aid in integrating you into the community smoothly (if you decide you want to train).

First and foremost, I suggest checking out the series of articles written to introduce newbies to psionics. They can be found here:

Intro. to Psionics: Basic Psionic Etiquette
Talks about what is considered offensive while dealing with psychics and what not to start a fight over.

Intro. to Psionics: How Psionics Will Change Your Life, and How To Fend Off Skeptics
As the title suggests, this article discusses how abilities will affect your life and how to deal with annoying skeptics.

Intro. to Psionics: For the Parents of Gifted Individuals
A letter intended for parents explaining what a natural psychic is and isn't.

Intro. to Psionics: Basic Psionic Terminology and Synonyms
Defines some common terms used around the PsiPog community and some synonyms that others use.

Intro. to Psionics: Letter to Parents
A nice list of common questions parents might ask about psionics after learning their child wants to start training.

The first thing you have to realize is that psionics is indeed real. That's right. It may seem strange and foreign, and even a little crazy at times, but it is 100% real. This is NOT a game. It is dangerous and you could cause permanent damage. Nobody knows the true nature of psi and we can't guarantee you won't get hurt. Of course, there are risks in all aspects of life. If you make intelligent decisions, the chances of you getting hurt are much lower though. We aren't baby sitters here - we'll give you the facts, but it's your decision whether to train or not.

Personally, I view the practice of psionics like any other sport. Before you play soccer in high school you have to sign a waiver stating basically, if you get hurt, you won't hold the school accountable. It's the same idea here. I don't want to scare you; I just want to provide you with the data. A lot of people have had fun playing soccer, and a lot of people have had fun training their abilities. That doesn't mean people can't get hurt though. In the end, it really is your decision, and I suggest running it by your parents as well if you're a minor.

If you or your parents have questions, feel free to e-mail me at peebrain@psipog.net.

Hopefully I didn't scare you too much . Psionics really is a lot of fun, and although it has some risks, if you take your time and don't act like a complete moron, you should be alright.
