South Dakota Trip Reports

In the summer of 2006, Christy and I took a cross-country road trip to the Rockies. After spending a couple of days in Chicago, we headed to South Dakota. First we paid a brief visit to Badlands National Park. We then headed to Custer State Park, where we car camped and hiked to the summit of the Little Devil's Tower. I then hiked on to Harney Peak, South Dakota's highest point. We then paid a brief visit to Mount Rushmore before continuing on into Wyoming.

We returned to South Dakota in 2018 on a cross country road trip to Wyoming. Early in the trip we camped at sweet spot just outside of Badlands National Park.     (Photos). We returned to South Dakota at the end of the trip. First, we took the Scenic Tour at Jewel Cave National Monument in the Black Hills.     (Photos). That afternoon we did some sightseeing and short hikes in Badlands National Park.     (Photos).
