The island of Fuerteventura has many good beaches. Of the 3 main beach areas, 2 of them are situated inside their containing national parks, being close to the Corralejo and within the Jandia regions. The third being the resort of Caleta de Fuste with it's fine artificial horse-shoe beach.

The south side of the Island is relatively sheltered from the Atlantic rollers, but the North coast is constantly exposed the never ending pounding of Atlantic rollers making it dangerous for swimming, but very popular with windsurfers. All parts of the island are easily within a day's driving distance by the easily obtained and reasonably priced hire cars. The roads generally are very good despite most being only 2 lanes. Good travel times are possible due to the general low volume of traffic.

The area around the Jandia region has really large attractive beaches of fine sand, many stretching for several miles and some being not easily accessible, but very unspoilt as a result. Personally for my favorite, I prefer the area around El Cotillo, which is situated in the North-West of the island which is sheltered from the Atlantic Ocean by semi-submerged reefs. A point which may concern some, in most of the beaches situated away from built-up areas, nudism is practiced, but the large open spaces give plenty of room for all.

Most of the tourist accommodation which is offered by the U.K. tour operators are in the Corralejo or Caleta de Fuste resorts. Much of it being of the self-catering bungalow type, thankfully, the authorities have kept the developments low-rise, preserving the landscapes.

The Capital - Porto del Rosario - although not a town containing historical sites, never-the-less has fine large supermarkets, which the visitor will appreciate for their choice and reasonable prices.
