THE WRITINGS IN MANTI UTAH

(An excerpt from Kerry Borren's book, "The Gold of Carre-Shinob.")

"When entering into the San Pete valley from Salt Creek Canyon, near Mt. Nebo, Chief Wakara pointed to a hill far off to the south of the valley and told Bro. Isaac Morley that the hill was the site of an ancient Temple/altar that the "old ones" built to give offerings to "Towats", Uto-Aztecan meaning "The Lord." He later elaborated a told Morley that there were caves under the hill that were very dangerous and admonished him not to go in them. That summer Morley realized the significance of these words as hundreds of rattle snakes awoke from hibernation and almost took over the town. Due to this and other experiences with these caves, Morley deemed the mount as sacred, believing the this was (as he wrote in his journal,)"the very hill where the Nephites had sacrificed Nehor on the sacrificial altar for the sake of the preservation of the ancient church. Here once an ancient temple stood, and here one day again would stand another in these last days...This was, even as Chief Joseph Walker (Chief Wakara) said, a sacred hill, and so I called the place Manti, even as it was called in days gone by..." Today, you can see the Manti Temple on that very hill."

Moroni in Manti? (For those who are inclined to believe in such)

(Right) These "glyphs" are found directly in back of the Temple in Manti City. Some say they were carved recently and others think that the top portion is original, but the lower marking is fake. At this point only radio carbon dating could uncover the truth. Whether real or forgeries, they have an egyptian look to them. It is thought by some, that a small contingent of Nephites, (a group of people found in the Book of Mormon,) passed through this area and that Moroni, their leader, in fact dedicated the Manti Temple site many years ago. Also, below are some gold and lead plates with Egyptian inscriptions on them. Most of these were found in a cave located 500 feet beneath this panel of glyphs,(pictured directly below.) There has been a lot of controversy surrounding these lamina's. I contacted Mr. Brewer one day at his office and due to some bad experiences, he would not talk about the plates. (Below,) is a larger, non Egyptian looking panel resembles those found in the cities of Filmore, Cedar City and many others in the mid west.

Note: The above panel and the cave are located directly accross the canyon from the Egyptian Panel.

Copper Plates

These plates were fond in the San Pete mountains.

Egyptian Tablets

In central Utah, during the 1950's, a man from Sanpete County, Utah, had been busy excavating a tunnel in the mountains west of the town of Manti. During the excavation, he uncovered an entrance that led to an ancient burial chamber, that contained two very large mummies. In the caskets with these two mummies were several gold and copper tablets, a five-foot sword attatched to the male mummy, many jewels attatched to the female mummy and other artifacts. Several of the gold and copper tablets were removed for testing and further examinations. Similar finds had been made in Ohio and Michigan. The famous Soper/Savage collections contain many tablets made from gold, lead, copper, bronze and black slate. Amazingly, some of the inscriptions found on the Soper/Savage tablets can also be seen on tablets from the Sanpete find.

The Manti Box was uncovered by Johnny Brewer while searching for artifacts in Sanpete County, Utah. The box contained several brass and copper tablets that have been identified as Jaredite. However, some people refuse to believe that there was even a people called Jaredites, and that this box and it's contents are nothing more than an attempt to bring attention to himself. This is not the case. The images on the box are authentic for that time period, only a person or persons that lived during that period, or someone having knowledge of that time period could have fashioned this box.
