OFF: Welcome to Lt. Myhon & Dr. Fredricks! ON: Location: Stellar Cartography :: The whine barely interrupted Ensign Koptuka's work. Besides the fact that Kimtonnans inner ears are remarkably resistent to interference, a protective membrane blocks off the inner ear in instances when any sound might overwhelm that part of the Kimtonnan ear. Koptuka continues with comparisons between current and less-than-current sensor data regarding Memory Alpha. :: CDR FORD : Commander Ford to Ensign Koptuka. KOPTUKA: Koptuka here, Commander. CDR FORD: Bring me on visual, Ensign. :: Koptuka obliges, then... :: CDR FORD: Ensign, we've received data from the probe we sent into the anomaly, but we need you to help us unscramble it all. Could you meet me in Engineering? KOPTUKA: Certainly, Commander. I've also been working on some algorithms that may help. OK if I link them to the Engineering database? CDR FORD: Why, that would be great, Ensign... See you in 15 minutes. KOPTUKA: Yes sir. :: With feverish speed, Koptuka links the files to the Engineering database, then gathers all the pads she's been working on. She's nervous at first, but by the time she leaves Stellar Cartography, she's moving with quiet grace. :: OFF: I had to find a reason for why Deck 9 wasn't affected by the whine, so that's why the ear membrane thing. With so few people onboard, maybe there's no one else on Deck 9, and Koptuka is different enough from anyone else onboard that anything should be possible. And other people weren't severely affected, anyway. :) Just in case anyone's wondering why I gotta be so weird ;) Ensign Beth Koptuka Astrometrics Specialist USS Excalibur, NCC-2997
