OFF: Okay, my first post, so bear with me! :) ON: {Outside CEO's office} McCoy: ::heading to Deck 5:: (I think I'm going to like this new CEO. Kinda reminds me of Grandpa.) ::hrmming to himself as he looks over the PADD:: ( Man, what a list -- turbolift problems, replicators not functioning, faulty sensor readings, errant alert triggerings, looks like I've got my work cut out for me.) =^= McCoy to Commander Tolbin. I've just reported to Chief Myhon, and I'm going to start my shift early since there's so much to do. I should have most of the Isolinear chips reprogrammed by the end of my normal shift.=^= Tolbin: =^= Acknowledged, Ensign. Keep up the initiative! =^= {Inside the Systems Monitor Room of the Engineering Core} McCoy: (This seems to be the problematic Core. I'll have to keep my eye on her. I can't believe I have a _staff_! At the Institute, I just was an Ensign at a terminal, trying to keep pumping out the latest and most advanced routines.. but here, I'm in charge of the whole system!) ::rummaging around for an optical chip reader and thinking out loud:: "Yes, here we go." ::plugs in the first chip:: "Well, no wonder systems were going haywire over the ship. The entire data flow of this chip is corrupt! I wonder why?" ::Uses the optical reader to wipe the chip clean, reformatting it and then attempts to reprogram it, when the Optical chip reader makes a nasty buzzing sound:: "What? Why won't it accept the new software?" ::squints a moment and then holds the optical reader up to the light, and peers through the chip:: "Waitaminnit.. Are those smudges on the chip? How can that be there?" ::gently touches a fingertip to the chip and sees a fingerprint form:: "I knew it! This chip doesn't have the tripolymer sealant! I bet these are all like that!" =^= McCoy to Lt. Myhon. I think I've figured out our first problem. It looks like we got a bad batch of Isolinear chips somehow; they're missing the tripolymer sealant and so every speck of dust, fingerprint, or contaminant is corrupting the data it holds. We may be able to find some way to re-seal these on our own, but I'd prefer to get a whole new set as soon as we dock again. McCoy out. =^= Myhon: =^= It figures. And we just got done with a refit too. I wonder how they missed those? Anyways, is there anything we can do in the meantime? =^= McCoy: =^= Well, I can maybe take some from non-essential systems temporarily. I think maybe I could get enough from one holodeck. It wouldn't take them all off-line, so the rest of the crew wouldn't be too upset, and I could still keep priority systems 100%. Shall I continue? =^= Myhon: =^= Good idea, Ensign. Let's see. I think you should be able to use Holodeck 3. If anyone gives you any guff you just tell them _I_ told you to. Myhon out. =^= McCoy: ::getting up to head to Holodeck 3:: (Man, what a start.. I'm not even moved into my quarters yet, and I'm already pulling a shift. Good thing they put me on Deck 5 near the cores, what with all the troubles they've been having. But then, no one said supporting a Starship would be easy. Boy, what would Grandpa Leonard think of me? Well, I guess that's the price you pay for being born a McCoy. And cripes, what a legacy! Being posted to the namesake ship of the one that was destroyed by the M-5 testing. If I was superstitious, I'd almost think it was a bad omen. Good crew though. And where the heck have I seen Counselor Jade before? I know she looks really familiar.. but we couldn't have been in the academy together, could we? No, she must've gone to Starfleet Medical. Maybe I met her visiting Grandpa Leonard at some point? Or was she at the Academy when I needed to talk about Shelly? No, couldn't have been. Anyways, maybe I can ask her tonight after I get off-shift in Ten Forward." OFF: Well, there you have it. My first post. I hope it wasn't too long, as I have a tendency to ramble sometimes. The curse of the lefty. ;) Ensign Scott McCoy Computer Specialist USS Excalibur NCC-2997
