YEAH RIGHT !!!

Would you like to know what insurance company is really NOT

"ON YOUR SIDE"??

I should have gone with Geico

I should have gone with Allstate

I should have gone with State Farm

Then I would have had somebody on my side!

But instead I went with the company that sells nationwide.

Sometime ago I was waiting at an insurance office; you know the one that’s sold nationwide. While waiting a woman entered and requested to speak with a specific agent whom she had been dealing with. She was advised that the agent was not in. Since that particular agent was out, the woman decided to give this new agent a brief overview of her situation because she wanted to leave a receipt for the agent regarding her claim.

As I listened to the woman’s story I learned that her home computer was damage from lightning that hit the house. Since her computer was covered under her home policy and due to the fact that she had already processed a claim through the insurance company the woman went out a purchased a new computer. At this point, all the woman wanted to do was leave a receipt for the replacement computer with her agent so he could issue a refund check. Well to my surprise and the surprise of the woman the agent advised her that this new computer did not qualify for reimbursement because it was not the same model as the one which fried by the bolt of lightning. The woman then explained to the agent that this was a better model, which came with more accessories, and because it was on sale and cost over $100.00 less than the model that was destroyed, she did not think that it would matter. It then seemed to me that the agent wanted to make an issue about nothing more than apples and bananas, which did not make sense to me or the woman at the counter. The patience of the woman was running thin. It looked like she had to restrain herself from grabbing the agent to shake some since into her. The woman instead looked at her and told her to be sure that her regular agent gets the receipt and call her as soon as possible.

Now does that make sense to you? Did that sound like an insurance company whose on your side? Although the woman’s purchased saved the company over $100.00 the agent advised her that she was not entitled to be reimbursed for a different model.

Almost two years later, in the middle of trying to settle my claim I too have a situation involving computers. My computers were stolen and the manager of the claims department informed me that a household is covered only up to $3,000.00 in computer equipment such as monitors, towers, keyboards, mouse, etc. Sometimes, in life, we find out things the hard way. It’s funny that no one informs you of these little things when you buy your policy. But they get very technical when it comes to reimbursing you under your policy.

I have a story tell and I bet some of you do too!

This is the Rocky Hill story of the company that sells insurance nationwide.

Our story begins over two years ago. Like the Jefferson's we took everything we had loaded up a truck and moved. But instead of the east side, we moved to south. After over a day and a half of driving, we finally reached our destination in the wee hours of the morning. A hot shower and a bed to rest in never seemed to feel so good. Sleep came within minutes and we woke up the next morning to a beautiful sun shiny day. We felt that things were looking up for us.

It was a little over a year ago when it seemed like we had fallen on hard times. My wife lost her job. The company she was working for relocated to Houston, TX. And if that wasn’t enough, I too lost my job a few months later. After months of being unemployed my wife found work. I, on the other hand did not fare so well. This was hard for me because I was the man and the breadwinner. I had to do something.

I began to think about relocating if I could not find work here. Our eldest son had just moved out into his own home and after speaking with him we decided to move in with him. He would inhabit the basement and we would have the upstairs. Because there was plenty of room we thought about building a house on the land with the money we received from the sale of our home if I could find a good job. When I came to the realization that I was not going to find a job here paying what I was accustomed to making, I decided to look for a job elsewhere. After receiving three good prospects, in two different states, I decided to see what one of them had to offer.

My wife and I along with two of our children took a trip down south to check things out. I like what I saw and even found a house at a reasonable price. At this point things really seemed to be going our way. A job and a house was all we needed to get started. When we got back home we talked over our plans with our extended families. They too thought that this would be the best thing for the family.

After settling things we headed south. When we got here, to our dismay there was a delay on our closing. My wife went back to our home state to close up the house and finish up her work assignment while I stayed in a hotel with the kids waiting out the closing. We ended up staying in a hotel room for almost 4 weeks. During our stay at Homewood Suites our rental truck was stolen. Everything that we owned except for the clothes we had taken out of the truck was gone. No one at the hotel saw anything. No one knew anything. No one ever saw a big rental truck leave the parking lot.
