Stan's Bloodhounds

History of the Bloodhound
The bloodhound is one of the earliest known breeds, being over a thousand years old. The name bloodhound is
derived from the words "blooded hound", meaning a hound of pure breeding. These intriguing, stout, hard
working, independent, non-aggressive, affectionate and faithful dogs are well known for their keen sense
of smell. They have great size and strength, with a noble, dignified expression.

They have every right to look dignified because they have a very distiguished history. A monk named
Francois Hubert, who was an avid hunter, perfected the breed by following strict and selective breeding
practices to produce the gentle giants of today. They are still sometimes referred to as St. Hubert's Hounds.

The first recorded incidence of bloodhounds being used by law enforcement is 1805 in England when the
Thrapthon Association for the Prevention of Felons used them to track poachers and thieves.
Today's bloodhounds still possess the same excellent tracking abilities and are used to search
for missing persons by law enforcement agencies everywhere.
