Eva's Birth with a Midwife

Eva was born on June 21, 1999, the summer solstice. After having contractions all Saturday and Sunday I was feeling a little impatient to meet this person. I woke up on Monday morning I sent Justin my partner and father to my baby to work thinking it was just going to be another uneventful day. But the universe likes to prove me wrong. I started having contractions again around 10am. I was doing laundry and the more I stayed active the more my contractions stayed regular so I stayed active! I finally decided I might be in “real” labor around 12 or 1pm. I called my Midwife and she was in town so she came over and I had progressed from 2 to 4 cm. I was so excited! But the contractions were still rather mild so I stayed at home with the instructions to call her back if the contractions get harder or closer together. I had some friends come over because I much say that I love a party and I love to be the center of attention. Two of my friends took turns massaging my back and timing the contractions. And my mom came home from work. So by around 6pm I called Justin home and everyone was there. And indeed my contractions did get stronger and closer together! So we called the Midwife and she said come on to the birth center. So we all got into the cars and head to the birth center an hour away. When we got there the midwife and her assistant greeted us. And I throw up on her right away. The Midwife announced that I was in transition. This was music to my ears. I got in to a bathtub of water. I dreamed of having a waterbirth. I must have gotten stage fright though because everything slowed down and I was not feeling like pushing. I even tried to push but I was too slippery from the oil from the massaging. So I got out of the tub and on to the bed. And cried for a little while. And then I was ready to give birth to my baby. I pushed for about an hour. And Eva Teresa Levana Ashby Baker Moon was born at 9:50pm, 7#14oz, 21in.
