THIRD GENERATION

4. George Edward LEWIS was born on 4 Aug 1887. He died on 1 Oct 1974 in Bluff City, Tennessee. He had Social Security Number 412-60-4987.(1) My Grandfather, George Edward Lewis lived with my parents, Benjamin and Ruby Lewis for most of his life. He owned a farm near in Ashe County NC off Roundabout Road near the Tennessee State Line before moving to TN to live with my parents. He was a good man. I will never forget the last time I saw him alive. Rachel and I were getting ready to return to Tennessee Tech University to start our Senior year. I remember hugging him and telling him good by. We both had tears in our eyes as if our spirits knew that this would be the last time we would see each other here on planet Earth. Although we argued frequently and poked fun at each other from time to time while I was growing up, I always looked up to him and I think he was proud of me as well.

My Dad had three farms in TN, that my Grandfather helped with from time to time. We raised cows and tobacco on the farms. Grand paw would drive the John Deer tractor between the farms to check on the cows and visit his friends. He was involved in at least two fairly serious accidents with cars and the tractor. One accident left him with a crippled hand that he never regained the full use of. All in all he was a very lucky man. He was married to Rener Matilda HARTZOG (HARTSOG) about 1905 in Ashe Co. North Carolina. (3)

5. Rener Matilda HARTZOG (HARTSOG) was born on 2 Jul 1884 in Ashe Co. North Carolina. (3) The Family Serach Ancestral File database shows a birth date of about 1887. She died on 5 Nov 1958 in Bluff City, Tennessee. (3) I don't remember much about my Grandmother 'Tilda. She died when I was very young. I remember holding her hand to comfort her while she lay in bed, the last year of her life. I also remember the funeral. People came to our house from all over to pay their last respects and bring food. Children were:
