Well, I thought it was about time I started a blog. I've been wanting to for quite a while now, but I just haven't gotten around to it. Right now I'm doing homework-always fun. First assignment of the day: Write a poem about a painting from the renaissance. I chose to write about "The Maids of Honor" by Diego Velazquez.
You can view it here. http://www.tigtail.org/TIG/TVM/X1/f.Baroque/b.italian/velazquez/M/velazquez_maids_of_honor.1656.jpg
Here's the poem.
With head turned,
she stares
and looks at us
with the callous face she wears.
She invites us to look
but not to stay.
She seems to know something,
but what she does not say.
The artist looks at us
as though we?re disturbing them.
He stares and waits for us to go
so the girl will turn and face him.
Her ladies ask her to turn
and face the artist, but she-
seems as intrigued by us
as by the site of her are we.
As we leave the scene,
we see her eyes follow.
She makes sure we?ve gone,
and she turns.
