Capt. John S. Donelson

Captain John S. Donelson was the son of Andrew Jackson Donelson and Emily Tennessee Donelson. He was born May 18, 1832, at the White House, Washington,D.C.,where his mother served as hostess for President Andrew Jackson. Captain Donelson's name appears on the Roster of 154 Senior Regiment of the Tennessee Infantry Volunteer Co. E. The Regiment was organized on May 14, 1861. He mustered into the Confederate service on August 13, 1861, as Commander of Hickory Rifles. Captain John S. Donelson was listed among the casualties at the Battle of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He was killed at the Battle of Chickamauga, Tennessee, September 19, 1863. It is unknown exactly where Captain Donelson is buried.

The name Captain John S. Donelson was chosen as the name for this UDC chapter because of the location and the association with the Hermitage, home of President Andrew Jackson.
