"Supporting Our Troops Through Family Readiness "

"By being less judgmental of others, you will eliminate much frustration.
Lord, I pray for the peace that comes from understanding and compassion."

August 12, 2005 - Tracy has given up the position as of July 16, 2005. She gave us so much love, support, guidance and direction while she served as our Regional Volunteer Coordinator (RVC). We can never thank her enough for all the heart and soul she put into the FRG's. Tracy did her tour (and did it well)and has now passed the torch to Charlene. Let's all work together and make this an easy transition. If you see Tracy, give her a hug and a pat on the back. She definitely deserves it. If you run into Charlene, welcome her as our new RVC and offer her your support as she continues the tradition of support for our Family of One.

Subject: Hello Everyone....

As some of you know I gave my resignation as your RVC effective today. My plan was to step down effective Sept 1 (my official 3 year term ended in Dec 2005), and train my replacement until our soldiers return, but I have decided it is best for me to step down now.

Charlene Barrett has been recommended not only by me but also by command to take my torch and continue my journey. She has not received official word yet, but I do expect that will come soon. She will make a fantastic Regional Leader and will help you guys move into the future. I want each of you to know how much I love you and how much I appreciate all that you have done for our 278th family.

When I receive compliments on my region I tell them you must have GREAT FRG leaders to have a GREAT region. They are the reason why Region 1 is #1. We are almost at the end of this long journey, but just because the journey ends doesn't mean the end of the FRG. The Family Readiness Group is there in times of war and in times of Peace.

I do hope each of you will continue your journey and then pass the torch on as I have done today. I am not quitting the FRG. I will always be a volunteer and maintain my involvement with this program because I know how important it is. I think we all know that now. I am leaving you in great hands. Remember I am here if you ever need me. I am just a phone call away.

Take Care and God Bless Each of You!!!
Tracy

  • November 20, 2004 - Plans are in the works for all FRG's to set up at their local WalMart Stores to receive donations for our soldiers. More plans will be forthcoming as they are made available. We will need help with this, so please check your calendars and let you FRG Leaders know what hrs you can help with the booth. In conjunction with this event - we would like to include a "Yellow Ribbon Campaign". We want to see yellow ribbons all over East Tennessee in Support of Our Troops. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please pass them to us.

I am back from Mississippi. I know some of you are still away. I pray that everyone has a safe trip home.

I had a very nice visit with my hubby. I treasured every moment. I am very thankful for the time we had with each other. I know he enjoyed being at home. It was very hard to say goodbye. My heart is full of fear, as I know each of you have the same feelings. I sit here wondering how we are going to have the strength to make it through the next year and it just hit me... The Lord will give us all strength.

    My Strength

I cried, "Lord, take my hand." And He said, "You take mine."

And I cried, "Keep me true." He said, "I am true. Follow me."

Then I cried "Father, give me strength and power for You." And He said, "I've made your path to be a rocky place - So you may learn to step carefully."

"I've dimmed your eyes - So you may learn to wait upon my guidance."

"I've weakened your body - So you may learn to draw from my strength"

"And I've saddened your spirit - So you may learn to seek the joy that comes from me."

"I have not made you strong and whole, nor will I, - For it is your weakness that brings you to me."

"In me you will find strength and joy and power"

"You will find sight that comes not from your own eyes"

"Steps that come not from your own feet"

"Joy that comes not from your own gladness"

"Power that comes not by your own means"

"And life that comes not through your own blood."

"I AM your strength and your power."

"Look upon me, take my hand and follow me."

Our soldiers have built STRONG bonds with each other. We need to do the same. I need you guys right now. EVERY ONE of you. Our families need us just like we need them. We must start building the same bonds as our soldiers. Please take this message to your families. We will make it through this deployment as a FAMILY OF ONE. If you're in this with me please give me your hand and lets start this journey together.

    Love ya!

  • ID CARDS
    June 17,2004

Ok... This is what I know at this point. If you live in or around the Knoxville area they are making ID cards now. You might want to call before you go to confirm what is a good time to show up. Lynn Powell 865-582-3251.

I received a phone call this morning from Gloria to inform me that the Gray machine is down again....... So at this point we are not sure when it will be back up. The other day I was told they only ordered 300 cards... (NOT ENOUGH)

I received a call from Lynn Powell (Knoxville FAC) this morning to let me know that a portable ID Machine will be in the KPT, Rogersville, Bristol area hopefully toward then end of next week. We don't have definite dates yet, but I will keep you posted.

My hubby had an idea for the people who live in the Bristol Area to go to Abingdon Reserve Center @ EXT 17. Fred and Gloria called and checked on it today and they where open to do it. But.... You must call and make an apt. 1-276-628-2641 Ext 205. (Ask what forms of ID, and forms they will need) We would hope it would be the same as the rest but... you never know.

I will keep you all posted on what I find out.

    Love ya!

    Dear families,

It is very important that you encourage your families to be safe. If they should receive a call or e-mail they need to either get the number or forward a copy of the e-mail to you to check out. It is very important that we do whatever necessary to protect our families and our soldiers. Please encourage them to talk to their children about safety.

One of our National Guard family members received what I have been told now is Scam e-mail. This email is a HOAX. It has been circulating on the Internet for some time in different variations. Some of our Family members have not used the computer much. Please tell them to NEVER respond/reply to an e-mail like the one below. There are lots of bad people in the world. Don't ever give our personal information out to anyone you don't know. People have lost everything they own due to scam artist.

NEWS - "WIVK`s Debt of Gratitude" was a huge success!! Thank you WIVK and the 134th Air Refueling Wing!!

On June 5, WIVK and the 134th Air Refueling Wing will team-up for an event at the McGhee Tyson Air Base. We will celebrate the bravery of Guard members from the 134th Air Refueling Wing, 119th Command & Control Squadron, and the 228th Combat Communications Squadron who served overseas. We'll also give a grand send-off to the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment who will soon deploy. Country music artists Con Hunley, Kellie Coffey, Carley Goodwin, and McHayes have enthusiastically agreed to perform. It's our way of showing a debt of gratitude to some of America's finest men and women and their families.

A BIG THANK YOU to Janna Ricker for pointing this one out to us!! Click Here to visit WIVK!

Thank You to All Who Contributed to this Event!!

From Rebecca Sharrett - Troop F (Bristol) "I have just received word from the Holiday Inn, Exit 7 off interstate 81N, about a "Thank you Send Off" on June 10th (Thursday night) from 7 PM until 12 PM. Cover charge of $7.00 for non-military (must be 21 years of age). All the proceeds will go to the family readiness support fund. This is for the entire 2/278th. Major Blevins has been working on the arrangements with Holiday Inn. Music will be provided by Benny Wilson and Phantom. This event is being sponsored by Coca-Cola, WXBQ, WQUT, Sysco VA food, and the Holiday Inn. I have a friend that works at the Holiday Inn and this is how I became the contact for Troop F. Please try to attend this event I feel it is very special for the community to show us such support." Again this event is for all of the 2/278th ACR - military ID required and bring one guest.
