At the early age of 4 or 5 Steadman did nothing but drive around in a go-kart. At 12 or 13 he decided that racing was for him but go-karts weren't going to cut it. He sat down with his father, Sterling, and they decided it was time for him to start driving a race car.
Steadman also played football and wished to go into Pro but he decided he was too small. He also wanted to do something that ran in the Marlin blood, so he became interested in racing.
Steadman made his NASCAR debut at the age of 16 on Friday July 25, 1997 for the TNN "Motor Madness" Chevrolet 101 for NASCAR Budweiser Late Model Stock Cars at Nashville Speedway, USA. He drove his #14 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.
At 18 Steadman received his first career victory. He led all 50 laps at the NASCAR Winston Racing Series Late Model Stock Car main event Saturday May 22, 1999. He became the first third-generation driver to win a premiere division feature at the Nashville Fairgrounds oval. This was Steadman's 8th start of that season and 25th start of his career.
At 19, Steadman made his NASCAR Busch Grand National debute on Saturday, April 8, 2000 at Nashville Speedway USA for the BellSouth Mobility 320. He filled in for the late Kenny Irwin. He drove the #42 car for the Busch race due to conflicts with Irwin's Winston Cup Schedule when the NASCAR Winston Cup Series was at Martinsville Speedway, VA.
In April of 2001, Steadman began racing for Earl Sadler in the #95 Ford, making his ARCA/ReMax Series debut on April 13th and still competing sporatically in the Busch Grand National Series. Steadman was not ready to go into either series full time, however. He wished to race another full season in the Nashville Speedway Late Model stocks in hopes of receiving the championship before he moved on, like his father, Sterling, and grandfather, Coo Coo. However, he finished 5th in points.
At the early age of 21, Steadman will continue his climb up the rungs of the Nascar ladder, while he once more aspires for the Nashville Speedway Late Model Championship.
