As a woman, you face many special concerns that call for heightened awareness about your health. This is especially true about breast cancer.

Breast cancer is today's second leading cause of cancer death in women (lung cancer is first). While research continues to seek ways to prevent, detect, and treat this disease, it is essential for you to stay informed - so that you can make smart decisions about your health.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in women. A woman's chance of surviving breast cancer is greatly improved with early detection and treatment. You owe it to your family, your friends, and to yourself to do all you can do to stay informed and have screenings on time.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. But that doesn't mean you should wait until October each year for your self-exams. If you haven't been doing them, NOW is the best time to start.

And while you're at it.....
There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the "drive-through mastectomy" where women are forced to go home hours after surgery against the wishes of their doctor - still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached. Lifetime Television has put this bill on their web page with a petition drive to show your support. Last year over half the House signed on. PLEASE!!!! Just click on the address below, fill in your name on the petition and send it to help women living with breast cancer get the care they need and deserve!! It's that simple.
