This drawing was completed in a high school art class. I have always been a big fan of Garth Brooks. I was fortunate enough to attend a concert of his in Atlanta in 1996 (he kicked off that tour there because of the Summer Olympics). Jon, Bekah, Kristen her sister, Corby, myself and I think Bekah’s dad went to that concert together. It was one of my favourite high school memories! |

This was done in Drawing 1 class at Southern. It was a finely carved wooden sculpture of a native chief. It was a good study on shadows and contrasts. |
This was a study on how to draw in reverse. When you use white paper, you have to use dark media on it. When you use black paper, you have to use lighter media. It kind of does weird things to my mind, since I usually draw on white paper. |

One of the neat things about my Drawing 2 class (my watercolor class as well) was that we were able to go outside to do our work. Southern has a particularly lovely campus, and this scene is no exception. It is the small pond on the promenade that is near the Garden of Prayer. It was always a beautiful and peaceful spot on campus, and it was always nice to pause in between classes to look at the frogs, or fish or whatever. This summer there are some of the most beautiful pale pink Calla Lilies growing there. |

Another study on light and contrast. One of my classmates told me they thought the bowl looked so real that they could lick it (I asked them to not). I hope you agree. |
I took the photo that inspired this pastel drawing when I visited England with my grandparents the summer of 1999. It is what my best friend Kristen calls an “English Messy Garden.” They are beautiful and inspire, and right now my garden half way resembles that. |
Another still life, with a bottle and pitcher as the subject matter. I used a pencil that was about a 9B to pick up the dark and light contrasts. |
Similarly to the Ram Skull watercolor, I did not chose the subject matter for this still life as well. There are how many bones in a human head? I know it is a lot, and there are probably a few more in the bovine world. I tried to get each one perfectly, but eventually my eyes nearly went crossed, and this was the art that resulted from that. |

This drawing was done with a really thin art pen. That enabled me to get the fine detail needed to draw this very petite bird. I have always loved hummingbirds and am fascinated by them whenever I see one. |
