Lonnie and Doris went to school together and dated in high school. Lonnie went into the Army for a time and he came home with the plan of marriage to Doris, his high school sweetheart.
Lonnie found her in the floor of their home having a seizure. She was rushed to the hospital and the doctors found a tumor on her brain. The doctors would operate but they didn't give Doris much hope that she would be the same after they removed the tumor.
This all happened 7-19-1986. Dr. John Jane did the operation at UVA Medical Center. Doris came through the operation and even the doctors were surprised how well she did. She was in Gods hands. There are so many positive things to praise God for we shouldn't take time to dwell on the negative.
Now as brief as Lonnie can, I will try to tell you how I became known as"THE MIRACLE MAN."
On Janurary 1,1991 I became Ill after working the 12-8 shift at Dupont. I woke up during the day with yellow jaundice. Dr. Mlot had me rushed to Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
Even after the bad news a card from friends and coworkers makes Lonnie smile.
I under went surgery on Janurary 8th and the doctor closed me back up. They said it was too late, that I had Pancreatic and liver cancer and I probably had three and no more than six months to live.
They began with a new treatment called T.N.F.(Tumor Necrosis Factor) and chemo together. This was so strong it almost exploded my heart. The next treatment they tried went on for 18 months. It consisted of Andriamycin, Cisplatin and Vincristine and the Immunopherphy. I checked into Duke every five weeks for five days. This treatment ran through my system for 100 hours contineocsly each time. I had drain bags on each side to catch the poison from my bile ducts. The tubes to these were inserted through my sides into my bile ducts without any Anesthesia or pain medication because of medical reasons.
Just before the 18 month period ended, I began to show a lot of improvement. Each time they did a CAT Scan (every three months) it showed the cancer disappearing. After the 18 month period
They removed the bags, tubes, treatments and said it was just a
"MIRACLE FROM GOD"
I went back to Duke every three months for two more years. Then and to the present time I go back once a year for a checkup.
When I Went back to Duke in 1996 for my yearly checkup things got even better. I checked in for a two day stay and on the second day, a Research Nurse came in to confirm my name and said she had some great news!! She told me they had discovered a killer cell in my white T Cell and if I would give my consent they thought Duke Research could develop a vaccine that would dry up cancer cells.(PRAISE THE LORD AGAIN)!! I did, and now they have developed the vaccine. It's under it's third testing and is working great according to reports from Duke.
In a Layman's terms that I can understand I will explain as best I can. They put my Killer T cell with a cell from someone with cancer. Then leave the cell's in the lab together for a period of time. Then they take the infected cell and put it back in the sick person and it dries up the cancer cells in their body.Isn't it Amazing? ONLY THE LORD COULD DO THAT!!
Since that time, I go upon request to churches, groups and organizations, like W.M.U., the Rotary's,Bible Schools,and e.t.c. giving my testimony of "HOW GREAT OUR GOD IS" being careful to give God all the Glory and praying that I can fulfill the reason God extended my life here on earth.
I removed the words "I can't" from my vocabulary and replaced them with "I'll Try".......
