Tamarillo

Red in color, and they are related to both the tomato and the potato.
They are egg-shaped with glossy, smooth scarlet skin and are sold
with a stem. Their tiny edible seeds are surrounded by apricot-like
flesh, which has a bitter/tart tomato flavor.

Usage Peel before eating, cooked or raw. May be used in jams,
relishes, sweet and sour sauces or in vegetable or fruit salads.

Selection/storage Let ripen at room temperature until they yield
slightly to pressure and become fragrant. Once ripe, can be
refrigerated up to 1 week; can be frozen if peeled, wrapped
individually in plastic.
