If you are thinking about quitting those cancer sticks or have already quit, you might find the following resources helpful. I quit smoking on July 28, 2003. My husband, David, quit smoking October 11, 2003. So we are still newbies! My twin sister, Lynda Marvel, quit smoking on March 23, 1998 and has assured me that after a year without cigarettes, I'll be looking at smokers with sympathy rather than envy. (An interesting fact for those of you who use smoking as a diet aid: You only burn 100 more calories a day as a smoker, so quit smoking and forego that apple!) According to Time magazine, female smokers have double the risk of getting lung cancer as do male smokers.
Blair's Quitting Smoking Chat Room Besides a chat room for ex-smokers or those desiring to quit, this page also has many links to other relevant resources.

The following was written in the Millennium Edition of the Guinness World Records, under the heading, "Most Urgent Health Problem":
"The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that, by 2020, tobacco-related illness will be the leading killer, responsible for more deaths than AIDS, tuberculosis, road accidents, murder and suicide put together. Populations in developing countries face the greatest risk as 85% of all smokers will come from the world's poorer countries by the mid-2020's. The WHO estimates that tobacco-related illness will be killing 7 million people per year in these countries by 2030."
This page is still under construction. I will have many more resources soon!
This place is a free service provided by Join Together and it is absolutely incredible! You need to join in order to gain access to the myriad of tools available. I took the "Fagerstrom Addiction" and "Why Do You Smoke" test and scored high on both!
The place also allows you to record your quit date and will tell you how many days you've quit everytime to visit the place.
