Douglass C. North

The Boston Globe: Midwestern Professors Net Nobel: Fogel, North are Hailed as Pioneering Economic Historians(10/13/93)

Douglass C. North was born in 1920 in Cambridge and was a Professor at the University of Washington in Seattle for fifteen years. He began teaching at Washington University in St. Louis in 1982. He was awarded, along with Robert W. Fogel, the 1993 Nobel Prize in Economics for "having renewed research in economic history by applying theory and quantitative methods in order to explain economic and institutional change."
