EBENEZER CAVE

The entrance to Ebenezer Cave is small, narrow, and steep. Once you are inside the cave, it turns immediatly left to a steep rocky drop about 15 ft. down. It then opens into a large room from which you can go left or right. The right paggage extends about 300 ft. before it ends, and is less difficult to traverse than the left passage. The left passage extends about 800 ft. to a narrow passage that connects to Ten Mile Pit Cave, but the passage is too narrow to fit through. It is very muddy in this area so be warned. In the left passage there are several drop-offs into a lower parallel passageway that extends about 800 ft as well. This lower passage has a stream flowing through it that ends in a siphon. The cave is about 3000 feet long. Its tallest room is about 30 feet tall and its deepest pit is about 35 feet deep. It has many unique features too. It has 3 levels of passages and areas of mud 2 feet deep. I once found a frog 600 feet into it, and there is always an orange salamander with black spots just inside the entrance. It has many formations as well. A map of this cave and pictures are also included in this web site.

I've heard stories about two men who fell into the cave's deepest pit. One was killed and the other was partially paralzed. I can see how this could easily happen, considering the slick, narrow bypass around the pit. This cave always gave me an erie feeling, but its very impressive.
