Here's the content of an e-mail I sent to the BX_Fanfic list shortly after the completion of Walk 4. It's a set of notes that clarifies most of the weird stuff. I think. That's the biggest problem with writting a fic totally from a single character's POV when there isn't going to be discussion of the plot to show what's going on. And I probably glossed over a good bit in there somewhere, too. Here's a summary thingie for what happened: The god (who has no name, really) had taken over the weapon (the disk) a long time ago, stealing it from the Hokage clan (a group of ninja who created elemental weapons in order to fight, etc, etc. The weapon is my my own creation, though modeled after one that actually was in Flame of Recca, and quite a bit more powerful than the majority) and possessing it. Something complicated happened and both were lost to the mortal world for a while. Some time after that, in the "time of civil strife", the Hokage clan was destroyed by a Shogun intent on seizing their weapons. Only a trio of the clan survived, one of the Kagero (the asian woman we've met), her son Recca (the star of that series, the show is so titled because the leader of the clan doesn't use a weapon, but instead creates elemental flame without one) and his half brother Kurei (an evil bastard who has a pretty impressive flame of his own). Using the forbidden technique of time manipulation, she sent her son forward in time to a world where he could live a normal life (today) but Kurei hitched a ride (and tried to kill him). For her use of the forbidden magics, time cursed her never to die and never to be able to touch the one she sent through the time stream. Thus, if they ever try to actually touch, there are sparks and it gets ugly (literally). There was a long series of happeneings in which she wandered the earth for a few hundred years, seeking her lost son. She met Anya some time during this (though it was perhapse earlier, when she brought vengance upon the leader of the Hokage, Kagero's lover, on behest of his wife, though I didn't write in enough for it to be concrete) and somehow they became somewhat allies. Then, may years later, some stuff happened, and Xander woke up the demon. Perhaps it was just an accident, or maybe more? After that, things went the way they appeared in Carve up until the very end. As the god/demon found himself strong (from consuming so many souls) and in contact with something that was, for all intents and purposes, a giant, living weapon, he made the decision to change his home, possessing Adam and sucking Xander's life force along with him. The disk, however, was too clever for him. In it's long existance, it had grown to hate the demon and hid Xander's true soul from the monster, passing on only enough to make the demon believe it had drained him of all life and soul. Then, somehow, it compeled the husk to crawl its way out of the compound where he was found and rushed to LA for treatment. That's where Xander woke up. Anya had recognized the disk from one of Kagero's stories and went in search of her (which too a while, considering she wasn't using that name), finally finding her in California, of all places. She and Fuko were on a quest to find the missing "main body" of the Fuujin (lit, "wind god", Fuko's elemental weapon). Then things happened the way they appeared, Kagero's Ekai ball used to scry out Adam, and then they attacked, hoping to stop whatever he was plotting. He was intending to use Buffy as a "living battery" to power a machine that would open a rift in space/time which would consume the whole world. The fight went on, and when it was over, the rift still grew, sucking at Buffy's life force. Finally, Kagero stabalized the rift with a version of time manipulation, and they passed through, moving Buffy through the rift and out the other side, cutting off its growth. What happens next in the story is something of a mystery, even to me. Suffice it to say that I have a lot of decisions to make, one of the big ones involving the "curse of time" which may or may not be leveled against Buffy and/or Xander. Oi, there, I think I answered all the weird stuff. Hope it helps. Tim
