Softly As We Leave You

Life is so uncertain, this we all may know....
No one knows the time or day,
                                 when they'll have to go.
Though now our time has come to leave you
                                to face this world alone...
                             These promises we make you,
to give you strength to carry on.
                           When the sunlight awakens you,
                                     we'll be there too.
When the moon shines on your pillow...
                                 we'll be shining on you.
We'll be in the cooling breeze,
as it rustles through the trees..
we'll be in the pouring rain,
as it hits your window pane.
                           When darkness dims your vision,
close your eyes and look above
we'll be standing right beside you.
You will always have our love
May peace and comfort be upon you..
                                hold close our memories
For in our hearts we know that
                                no matter where you go...
                                Is where we'll always be.

 The Heart Remembers

      Just at sunset
      Does your busy day
              Suddenly fall silent
   And remember?

         Does the rising night
      Make you ready
                    For seeing that face again,
            Feeling that touch?

  Let the sunset
   Do its magic.
             Invite the rising night
            To case its dream.

        Have we not said
                  A thousand times and more
                 That we are the richest
                  When the heart remembers?

A New Little Boy in Heaven

Oh what do you think the angels say,
said the children up in heaven. There’s a dear
little boy coming Home today; he’s almost ready
to fly away from the earth we used to live in. Let’s
go to the gates and sing for joy, and open
them wide for the dear little boy, said the
                                       children up in heaven.

                                        God wanted him here
where His little ones meet, said the
children up in heaven. He will play with us
in the golden street, he has grown too fair, he has
grown too sweet for the earth we used to live in. He
needs the sunshine of heavenly joy, where he’ll
never be sick - this dear little boy, said the
                                       children up in heaven.

                                          Far down on the
earth we hear them weep, said the
children up in heaven. For their dear little boy
has gone to sleep; the shadows fall and the night
winds sweep o’er the earth we used to live in. But
we’ll open the gates and sing for joy; we’re
glad to welcome their dear little boy,
said the children up in heaven.

                                        Fly with him quickly
oh angels dear, said the children
up in heaven. See he is coming without one
tear - he’s come in the gate, he’s here! He’s here!
Oh look look look at the darling boy! The King
Himself with a smile of joy now holds in
His arms the dear little boy; our
                                       new little boy in heaven

To All Parents

"I'll lend you, for a little while,
                                 a child of mine,"He said
"For you to love while he lives
and mourn when he is dead.
It may be six or seven
years, or twenty-two or three, but will you
                                    till I call him back,
take care of him for me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you
and shall his stay be brief,
                            you'll have his lovely memories
                                 as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
                                 as all from earth return
but there are lessons taught down there
that I want this child to learn.
I've looked the wide world over
in my search for teachers true,
and from the throngs that crown life's lanes,
                                   I have selected YOU.
Now will you give him all your love
                                 -not think the labor vain
nor hate me when I come to call
                                 to take him back again."
I fancied that I heard them say
"Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
For all the joys thy child will bring
The risk of grief we'll run.
We will shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may---
And for the happiness we've known
                                  Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him
                           Much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes
                                 And try to understand."
