When Patty was first signed by Tony Brown in 1985, it was a contract for 5 single records. One of those first recordings was the song "I Did," written by Patty. When released in the spring of 1986, "I Did" gained so much popularity, it was surpassing some of MCA's better-known artists, much to the surprise of the executives at MCA. This unknown, backwoods, country girl was climbing the charts with a song SHE wrote.

At this point and with the song doing so well, an executive decision was made: "I Did" was pulled from radio play and in return, Patty was offered an album contract with the promise that "I Did" would be once again released as a single when the album was completed. This gave birth to the self-titled "Patty Loveless" album, released in October, 1986. It was re-released in Feburary, 1987 - another story all in itself.

"I Did" was again released in March, 1987. There was no video made of "I Did" or any of the other single releases from Patty's first album. However, we've obtained a copy of a British television program "Sing Country", which Patty appeared on when on tour there in the late fall of 1986. We hope you enjoy these stills from that appearance as well as a copy of her singing "I Did" on the show live at the "Silk Cut Festival."

Whoever needed you
Well, I did
Whoever wanted you
Well, I did
Who said she loved you
More than anything
And be true
Well, I did
Yes, I did
Oh, how I did

Who laid up many nights
Crying for you
Well, I did
Oh, how I did
Who was the fool
To give so much to you
Well, I did
Yes, I did
Oh, how I did

Who said she loved you
More than anything
And be true
Well, I did
Yes, I did
Oh, how I did

If anyone on earth
Could make me happy
Baby you could
And if we had a chance
And who would wait forever
Honey you know I would

Who said she loved you
More than anything
And be true
Well, I did
Yes, I did
Oh, how I did

Who said she loved you
More than anything
And be true
Well, I did
Yes, I did
Oh, how I did

Eddie's Note: I apologize for the poor quality of these images. The source was recorded on low quality videotape. As well, the British use a different television standard, called PAL. The video conversion process to the North American television standard leaves a lot to be desired at times, and also I'm dealing with recordings made over 12 years ago, which have been duplicated several times. The copy I received was not first generation video.

On the other hand, there aren't many video clips available of Patty at this stage in her career, much less singing a song she wrote. So I hope you enjoy this treat as much as Lilly and I did :)
