Will of Thomas Palmer
In the Name of God Amen of Thomas Palmer of the State of South Carolina Union District being weak in body but of Sound mind and memory and knowing that it is appointed for all men Once to die do make and order this only last Will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my Soul into the hand of Almighty God that gave it and my body _____ to the Earth to be buried in a decent Christian burial in a manner at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the General resur[r]ection I Shall receive the Same _____ again by the mighty power of God and as touching Such wor[d]ly Estate where with it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give damage and dispose of the Same in manner following /to wit/
First, I give and bequeath to my Son Jeffrey Palmer two Neagros to wit James and Harper. Item. I give to my Son Elias Palmer one Neagro known by the Name of Jacob. Item. I give to my Son Daniel Palmer two Neagros by the Name of Dinah & Solomon. Item. I give to my Daughter Mary Prewet one Negro known by the Name of [Lily or Bity] James. Item. I give to my Daughter Francis Prewet one Neagro woman by the Name of Winney. Item. I give to my Son William Palmer one Neagro by the Name of Charles. Item. I give to my Daughter Nansey Goodwin two Neagros by the Name of Mealey and Mitchell. Item. I give to my Son Elisha Palmer two Neagros by the Names of Moses & Jane. Also my Will is that my son Daniel Palmer Shall have one Negro girl by the Name of Seady, he paying the appraisement to the State. Item. I give to my Son, Jeffrey Palmer my best ______ Saddle and bridle. Also my Will is that the balance of my Estate both real and personally be Sold by my Executors hear in after mentioned and Disposed of in manner following that is to Say that one Neagro Woman by the Name of Patt Shall be sold in the family and have her Chois [choice] of her Master or her Mistress and the moneys arising from the Estate Not hear in before Disposed of shall be distributed in manner ____. Item. I give to the Heirs of Elisebeth Calico three Hundred and three Dollars. Item. I give to the Heirs of Tho. [?] Palmer and [?] Doc three Hundred and three dollars. Item. I give to the Heirs of Elijah Palmer /to wit/ Thomas & [Archerbel ?] Palmer three Hundred Dollars to be Equally divided between the two; also my Will is that if any moneys should remain in the hands of my Executors after the above legatees are paid of that the ballanc [balance] Should be divided amongst only lawful Heirs-------
I likewise Constitute make and Ordain my Son Daniel Palmer and my trusty friend John Blasingame as Executors of this my last Will and Testament and I do hear by utterly disallow, revoke and disannul and Every Other former testaments, Wills, legates, bequests and Executors by "one" in anyway before named Willed and bequeathed ratified and Confirmed this and no others to be my last Will and testament in Witness Where of I have hear unto Set my hand and Seal this twenty fourth Day of October one thousand Eight Hundred and two. KNOW all men by those Present That we Elizabeth Palmer, B__hard Palmer, ____ Jonathan and Jacob ___ are held and firmly Bound unto Thos. Brandon, ordinary for the district of union in The full and Just Sum of Two Thousand Dollars....Lawfull money of this State to be Paid to the said Thos. Brandon or to his successor ordinaries of this district or their certain attorney or assigns to which Payment will and truly to be made we bind ourselves and every of us our and every of our heirs Executors and administrators for the Whole and in the Whole jointly and [severally ?] firmly by these Presents sealed with our seal and dated the Tenth ... Day of May in the Year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred ...........
The condition of this obligation is such that if the within bounded Administrators of all and singular the goods Chattels and Credits of Thomas Palmer-Deceased, do make or cause to be made a sure and Perfect inventory of all and singular the goods, Chattels and Credits of the said Deceased, Which have or shall Come to the hands, possession or knowledge of [her?], the said administrator or into the hands or possession of any other Person or persons ____ ____ the Same so made do Exhibit or Cause to be Exhibited into the ordinaries' office of this District at or before the Tenth --- day of June--_____ insuring and the same goods, Chattels and Credit and all other goods Chattels and Credits of the Said Deceased at the time of his Death Which at any time hereafter shall Come to the hands or possession of the said Administrator ______ or into the hands or possession of any other Person or persons for them ..... do will and truly administer according to Law and further do make or Cause to be made a true and just account of their administration at or before the Tenth day of June .... Next and the rest and Residue of the said goods, Chattels and Credits which shall be found remaining on the said administrat account the same bring first Examined and allowed of by the ordinary of this District for the Time being Shall Deliver and pay unto such person or persons respectively as the said ordinary by his D______ or sentence pursuant To the True intent and one mind of the Statutes and arts of assembly of force in this State for the better settling of intestates Estates shall limit on a appoint and if it shall thereafter appear that any Last will and Testament was made by the Said Deceased and the Executor or Executors therein Named do Exhibit the Same To the said ordinary making ---- Bequest to have it allowed and approved accordingly if the Said William [Borend___?] being __________ to Required do Rents and deliver the Said Letters of Administration approbation of such testament bring firsthand and made To the said ordinary then this obligation to be Void and of [Hone ?] Effect or Else to be paid in full force and Virtue.
