IF YOURE GONE

"I think I've already lost you
I think you're already gone
I think I'm finally scared now
You think I'm weak- But I think you're wrong
I think your already leaving
Feels like your hand is on the door
I thought this place was an empire
But now I'm relaxed- I can't be sure..."

Alexia pulled her knees up to her chest as she stared out into the ocean. A cool breeze blew through her sun-kissed blonde hair, causing a chill to run up her spine. She fought hard against the tears that stung her pale blue eyes and the lump that insisted on rising in her throat.
"It'll be okay Alex," she whispered to herself, "everything will be okay, he loves you, he just doesn't know how to show it sometimes."
Rocking gently back and forth, Alexia desperately tried to organize her thoughts and emotions, she prayed her problems would work themselves out.

From where he stood in the kitchen, Lance could see Alexia sitting on the beach, her small frame perched on a sand dune. His heart broke with every second he spent looking at her. Tears filled his eyes with the remembrance of the harsh words spoken between them. He turned quickly on his heel and walked out of the kitchen and down the hall to their bedroom.

"I think you're so mean- I think we should try
I think I could need- this in my life
I think I'm just scared- I think too much
I know this is wrong, it's a problem, I'm dealing..."

Alexia stretched out her legs in front her and brushed off the sand that had accumulated on them. She stood up slowly and walked towards the house; uncertain with every step. The fight they had this morning was the worst one yet and she was unsure if they'd ever be able to reconcile. How much love would it take to mend the broken hearts they both held within their cavities? How much compassion would she need in order to forgive him? How much courage, to forgive herself?

She stopped at the foot of the stairs that led to their backdoor. Looking up at the house and then back to the ocean, she let the tears fall freely from her eyes. This would take more strength than she had, but she was willing to try.

Lance looked at his reflection in the mirror, his usually bright eyes were dark and red. He ran his fingers through his hair, his mind engulfed in deep thought. He reached down and opened the top dresser drawer, pulling out a few of his tee shirts and throwing them on the bed. He then walked over to the closet and removed some pants, tossing them with the shirts. Suddenly, he stopped, every fiber in his being froze, what was he doing?

"If you're gone- maybe it's time to go home
There's an awful lot of breathing room
But I can hardly move
If you're gone- baby you need to come home
Cuz there's a little bit of something me
In everything in you..."

Alexia's hand was on the doorknob, it felt as cold as ice, just like the feelings that were held in their home. She closed her eyes and turned the knob. She had to talk to him, she loved him with all her heart and needed to tell him that. She needed to apologize and explain herself. She stepped inside and ventured down the hallway, peering in each room. She stopped in front of their bedroom door, she could hear his breathing inside.

Lance stared blankly into the closet, all the colors blurring together. He fell to his knees, covering his eyes with his hands. "I can't leave, I can't leave Alex, what am I thinking?" he whispered to himself.

Alexia pushed the door open slowly, peeking around its edge, seeing Lance on the floor.
"Lance?" she asked softly, "Are you okay?" She moved quickly to his side.
"I don't know what's wrong with me, Alex. I cant explain what's going on in my head, in my heart..." he trailed off.
"I understand...completely. I've been thinking about this all day and I've come to a conclusion..." Alex said, before being cut off by Lance.
"I've been thinking too, Al..." he said looking at her as tears streamed down his face.

"I bet you're hard to get over
I bet the room just won't shine
I bet my hands I can stay here
I bet you need- more than you mind..."

Lance turned and face Alexia, taking her hands in his. He gently stroked the back of her hands as he stared deeply into her eyes.
"I was going to leave today, I thought we may need a break. But I changed my mind, I couldn't do it. The thought of walking out that door and never returning, it broke my heart."
"I know, I thought the same thing. I went back and forth, comparing pros and cons...it was silly, because all along, I knew I loved you. And, well, I didn't really want to go, I knew we could fix this, make it work," Alexia said squeezing his hands tighter.
Lance nodded his head in agreement and pulled her into his arms.
"I'm so sorry baby, I am so, so sorry. I didn't mean the things I said today, I didn't. I love you, Alexia. You are my world, my life."

Alexia looked away from him, seeing the pain in his eyes was almost too much to bear. She stared out the window, absorbing the words he said; they filled her heart with a comforting warmth. She turned back to him, a smile spreading across her face, "I love you too, Lance."

"Cuz there's a little bit of something me
In everything in you."
