This is nothing more then a mushy romatic fic that was inspired by my best firends new happiness. She's so happy it's spilling over onto me!
"Tabitha! Get up, girl!" Sam Guthrie cried, shaking his girlfriend's still form.
"No…go away." Tabitha muttered, burrowing her head under her pillow. Sam sighed and pulled the blanket away from her body, and dumped them on the floor.
Tabitha immediately curled into a little ball, shaking from the sudden chill. Sam chuckled, and pulled the pillows away from her head. Tabitha slowly sat up, glaring at him with sky blue eyes. Sam just smiled brightly at her.
"What on earth has possessed you Guthrie, to wake me up at…six-thirty in the morning?!" Tabitha moaned, looking at the clock.
Sam grinned again, and said " No reason. Ah just wanted to spend some time with mah favorite girl."
Tabitha looked at him from under her matted blonde bangs, and couldn't repress a smile. "I love you too, but couldn't we spend time together, say, after the sun has risen?"
Sam grinned back at her, and grabbed her hand, tugging her off the bed. "Nope! Hurry up and get dressed."
"You know, I wouldn't do this for anyone else but you, Sam." Tabitha grumbled, stumbling to her closet to find something to wear.
"Ah feel loved. Meet me in the kitchen when you're ready." Sam told her, giving her a quick kiss before bounding out of the room.
Tabitha watched him leave, smiling to herself. He was so cute when he was excited about something. Quickly, she dressed, pulling off her pjs and shimming into a pair of blue jeans. She tugged on a purple sweater, and ran a brush through her hair. Sam had seemed so excited about something; she didn't really want to keep him waiting.
When she was finished, she wondered into the kitchen, confused as to why the lights weren't on. Maybe Sam wasn't there yet. Suddenly, she was swept into a pair of strong arms. Before she had time to say anything, her mouth was fully occupied by Sam's welcoming kiss. As soon as she realized that it was Sam, she wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed back.
After a moment, they separated, but Sam kept his arms around her. Tabitha cocked her head to the side, looking at him in confusion.
"What's up, baby?" She asked, as he continued to stare at her.
"Just thinking about how beautiful you are." Sam told her, kissing her forehead. Tabitha smothered a giggle.
"You HAVE to think about it. It's still DARK so it's not like you can SEE me." Tabitha informed him. Sam laughed, his voice warm in the darkness of the kitchen.
"Come on. There's something Ah want you to see." Sam said, taking her hand and tugging her toward the door. "You do have shoes on, right?"
"NO!" Tabitha told him, as he tugged her out the door. She yelped as her bare feet touched the dew covered ground.
Sam turned around to look at her, then smiled suddenly. "Ah've got a better idea. Come on!"
"Come where?" Tabitha asked, picking up her feet to get them away from the wet ground. Sam turned, and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling her onto his back. Tabitha laughed, but wrapped her legs around his waist.
Then, to her great surprise, he kicked in his power. Together, they blasted almost straight up for awhile. Tabitha squealed and hung onto Sam's neck tighter.
Sam stopped blasting once they were about one hundred yards up from the ground. He hung their suspended, with Tabitha still clinging to his neck.
"Okay…what are we doing up here?" Tabitha whispered in his ear.
"Watch there." Was all he would say in response, pointing toward the eastern horizon.
Tabitha looked at him funny, but watched where he pointed. She didn't have to wait long.
Slowly, the sky began to turn form the dark blue of night into a lighter blue. Then it shifted from blue to a deep violet, with shots of gold racing through it. Slowly, the violet metamorphosed into a soft pink color, and the bright gold sun peeked up from behind the horizon. The sun began to lift gently from it's hiding spot, turning the sky from pink to blue in a matter of minutes.
Through the entire sunrise, Tabitha had stared in awe, her arms wrapped securely around Sam's neck. Sam's hands rested on her arms, and he was gently rubbing a slow circle in them.
"That was beautiful." Tabitha whispered, kissing Sam's ear gently.
"Your beautiful." Sam responded, as they gently began to descend.
Tabitha slid from his back when they reached the ground, dancing in front of him. She pushed herself up on her toes and kissed Sam firmly on the mouth. Sam kissed her back, wrapping his arms around her back and carrying her toward the porch. He set her down on it, reluctantly pulling away.
"Go put some shoes on, and then would you meet me here?" Sam asked, looking at her with huge puppy dog blue eyes.
"Alright…" Tabitha agreed, looking at him suspiciously. Sam just gave her his most innocent grin, before darting off for places unknown. Tabitha just shook her head, and walked into the house.
She quickly bounded into her room, and found a pair of running shoes and clean socks. She sat down on the bed, and quickly pulled the socks and sneakers on. Standing up, she bounced down the steps and out the door.
Sam was already leaning against the railing when she got there, one hand hidden behind his back. Tabitha looked at him curiously as she walked toward him. Then to her surprise, Sam pulled out a beautiful flower from behind his back and gave it to her. Tabitha smiled, and took the flower, sniffing it delicately. She then looked up at Sam, and raised an eyebrow.
"What has gotten into you today?" Tabitha asked.
Sam smiled, and reached out a hand. "Nothing. Ah'm just glad that Ah have such a wonderful girl to love."
Tabitha looked at him, but slid her hand into his. He squeezed it gently, his eyes never leaving her face.
"Will you go for a walk with me?" Sam asked.
"Sure." Tabitha said, stepping off the porch and letting him lead her toward the woods. "Where are we going now?"
Sam didn't say anything, but lead her into the forest. The sunlight danced among the trees, making their green leaves seem even brighter. Dew clung to the flowers, making the colors practically shine. Tabitha looked around herself with wide eyes, taking it all in.
"Does it always look like this in the mourning?" Tabitha asked Sam. He nodded, stopping a chuckle.
"Haven't you ever been in the woods at this time in the mourning?" Sam wanted to know. Tabitha blushed softly.
"Well, no."
Sam laughed, startling a few birds from the trees. Tabitha mock glared at him, but her lips twitched into a smile.
"Don't laugh, Guthrie, not EVERBODY grew up on a farm, ya know?" Tabitha reminded him. Sam stopped laughing, and pulled her close.
"Ah know sweetie. Ah didn't mean to laugh at you." Sam told her, his breath warm on her face. Tabitha leaned against him, inhaling his sweet scent. For a moment, the two stood like that, the only noise was the occasional chirping of a bird.
Sam broke the embrace, and pulled her along after him. She looked at him for a moment, wondering what he was up to, but allowed him to pull her along. They soon reached a small clearing with a brook running through it. In the middle of the clearing, 'someone' had set up a picnic.
Tabitha looked at Sam for a long minute and started to giggle. Sam looked at her in confusion, but didn't say anything. Then to his immense surprise, Tabitha began to cry.
Sam wrapped his arms around her, holding her close, running his hands though her hair. "Tabitha, what's wrong?"
For a moment, Tabitha couldn't answer, but finally got out, "It's just that you're so sweet…nobodies ever done anything like this for me before."
Sam hugged her for a moment longer, then bent down and swept her off her feet. Tabitha laughed through her tears, wrapping her arms around his neck. Sam carried her over to where he had laid the blanket and lay her down on it, quickly sitting down next to her on the blanket.
Tabitha pulled his head down and kissed him softly, running her fingers through his soft blonde hair. The kiss deepened, Sam's tongue slipping into Tabitha's parted lips, gently swirling around her tongue.
Tabitha sat up slightly, Sam's arms wrapped securely around her back. She held on tightly to his neck, tugging him down to the ground again. Sam lay half on top of her, still kissing her deeply.
Finally, he broke the kiss, but stayed in where he was, gently caressing her cheek with his fingers. Tabitha smiled up at him, lifting a hand to trace Sam's strong jawbone. He caught it and pressed a kiss into her palm, his eyes still locked on her face.
"I love you." Tabitha whispered to him, her eyes never leaving his face.
"Ah love you more." Sam teased, kissing her chin.
"No, I love you more." Tabitha whispered back, kissing his nose.
"No, I can't safely say that--" Sam was cut off when Tabitha kissed him firmly on the mouth.
After more kissing, and more sweet words, Sam and Tabitha lay on the blanket, just enjoying the feel of being together. Sam lay on his back, with one hand under his head, while Tabitha lay with her head on his chest. Together, they stared up into the blue sky, their minds a million miles away from where they lay…but still together.
After a few more hours of this odd togetherness, the young couple finally got hungry enough to see what Sam had put in the basket sitting on the corner of the blanket. Sam pulled out a bottle of water, then juice along with several more eatables.
Tabitha reached out and snagged an apple as he pulled it out, biting down gently. Some of the juice licked out of her mouth and rolled down her chin, which she quickly wiped away. Sam watched her with bright eyes, following her every move.
"What?" Tabitha asked, catching him watching her.
"Nothin'." Sam said. Tabitha took another bite of her apple, but watched him with clear blue eyes.
They both eat there full of all the food Sam had brought, stopping often to talk, touch or kiss. After they were done with the food, Sam surprised Tabitha by stretching out on the blanket and laying his head in her lap.
She smiled down at him, gently stroking his hair out of his face. Sam looked up at her, and Tabitha pressed a soft kiss to his forehead. He smiled serenely, relaxing under her hands. Tabitha continued to play with his pale blonde hair, just enjoying the feel of his hair beneath her fingers.
After awhile, Tabitha shimmed out from underneath Sam's head, and stretched out next to him. Sam turned on his side so he could look into her eyes. They lay on their sides for a long moment, just staring at each other.
"Ah don't think Ah tell you often enough how much Ah love you." Sam said softly, kissing Tabitha's nose.
"I know you try Sam. But it IS good to know. And I DO like to here it." Tabitha said after a minute.
"You ain't the only one. C'mere girl!" Sam said, pulling her into his arms, and hugging her tightly. Tabitha hugged him back, just as tightly.
After a few more minutes of holding each other, Tabitha pushed him on to his back and propped herself up on his chest. Sam craned his neck so he could look at her, raising an eyebrow. Tabitha grinned and kissed his neck gently, biting down softly.
Sam moaned in response, reaching to run his fingers through her short blonde hair. Tabitha pressed another kiss into his throat, enjoying the feel of his heartbeat beneath her lips. Sam pulled her head up for a deep kiss, his hands still in her hair.
When they came up for air, Tabitha was startled to find herself straddling Sam's hips. She blushed slightly, and slid down, and lay on her stomach. She rested her chin on his stomach, looking at him with sky blue eyes.
Sam grinned down at her, and kissed the top of her head. They lay there for a little while longer, soaking up the sun and the love they had for one another.
After about fifteen minutes, Sam suddenly sat up, gently dislodging Tabitha from his chest. She looked at him for a second, with her head cocked to the side. Sam stared at her for a minute, and opened his mouth to speak, but then closed it again.
"What's up?" Tabitha asked, looking at him oddly.
"Nothin'. Ah just thought of something. Will you come with me?" Sam asked, standing up, and reaching down to help her to her feet.
"Yeah…but where are you taking me now, Mason-Dixion?" Tabitha wanted to know, following Sam out of the woods.
When they where able to see the sun again, the realized that it was past noon. They had been lying in the woods all mourning!
Sam tugged Tabitha down to the lake, grinning like an excited little boy. Tabitha smiled at him, and followed along, beginning to get excited as well. Sam's mood was contagious it seemed.
He tugged her down to the lake, where a rowboat was tied up at the dock. Tabitha caught sight of it and began to giggle.
"Just where are we going Samuel Guthrie?" Tabitha asked, as he tugged her down the dock.
"Ah've always thought that rowboats where romantic…don't you?" Sam asked, stepping into the boat.
"Yeah…" Tabitha agreed, allowing him to help her into the boat. Sam grinned as he untied the boat and rowed it out into the lake. Tabitha sat facing him, watching the way the sunlight glint off his hair, and the way his muscles moved as he rowed the boat.
Sam looked up and caught her watching him. He smiled at her, and Tabitha ducked her head, feeling shy for some reason. Sam continued to watch her, enthralled by the way the sun made her hair glow and the way her eyes sparkled when she looked up at him again.
After rowing for a bit more, Sam stopped, and looked out around him.
"Pretty out here, ain't it?" Sam asked, looking back at Tabitha.
"Yeah." She agreed, also looking around. Sam smiled and slid to the front of the boat, and leaned against the side. Tabitha crawled over to him, and lay between his knees. Her head rested on his chest, and, again, his scent filled her nose.
They lay like that for a long time, simply listening to the other one breath. After awhile, Tabitha fell asleep, her head still resting on Sam's chest. Sam kissed the top of her head, and settled down with her in his arms. He, too, quickly feel asleep.
When they woke up, it was late afternoon from the position of the sun. Tabitha smiled at Sam, who was rubbing his eyes.
"Guess we got a work out this mourning in the woods, huh?" Tabitha asked, with a naughty grin. She was rewarded when Sam blushed a brilliant red.
"You shouldn't be talkin' like that girl." Sam said, still bright red. Tabitha giggled, and bent forward to kiss him.
"I love you when your embarrassed, you know that?" Tabitha informed him.
Sam brightened, and kissed Tabitha softly on the lips. "Ah love you all the time. Now, come on, or we won't be ready in time."
"Won't be ready in time for what?" Tabitha asked, confused. All Sam would do was smile.
They quickly rowed their way back to shore. Sam jumped out of the boat, and extended his hand to her. Tabitha grinned at his gesture, and let him help her out.
Together, they walked back to the mansion hand in hand. Tabitha looked over at Sam through the corner of her eye, and grinned at the happy expression on his face. It always made her happy when he was.
When they reached the mansion, Sam kissed her cheek. "Well you meet me here at, say, 6:30?"
"Sure, but why?" Tabitha asked, confused.
Sam smiled and winked. "It's a surprise."
Tabitha sighed, but smiled up at him. "Well, what should I wear? A jeans, semi-formal, formal? "
Sam thought about it for a minute, then smiled. "Wear that purple dress with the skinny straps. You know the one Ah'm talking about right?"
Tabitha nodded, still looking at him with a suspicious expression. Sam just smiled innocently, and moved off to get ready. Tabitha watched him go, still shaking her head.
Tabitha showered and dressed quickly, a first for her. As requested, she wore the spaghetti strapped purple dress, and the purple flats that went along with it. Never knew when they were going to get into a fight nowadays, Tabitha thought ruefully.
She pinned her hair back with the small butterfly clips Sam had gotten her for her last birthday, and applied her make-up carefully. When she was finished, she looked over at the clock and noticed that it read six twenty-five. Giving herself a final look in the mirror, she hurried out the door and rushed down the steps.
When she got down to the foyer, Sam was already there. He looked excellent, in a charcoal gray suit over a white silk shirt and a maroon tie. A huge bouquet of red roses rounded out the outfit quite nicely.
When Tabitha appeared, Sam smiled brightly at her and held out the roses. Tabitha smiled, and blushed slightly.
"For me?"
"Who else?" Sam answered easily, handing them to her. Tabitha took a deep breath and struggled to keep from crying again. Sam noticed, and reached up to kiss her softly, enjoying the feel of her lips under his.
Tabitha pulled back from his lips, and rested her head against his, her eyes shut. Sam sighed gently, Tabitha's perfume tickling his nose.
Tabitha pulled her head away from his after a minute, and smiled at him. Sam grinned, and placed the flowers on the table, extending his hand to her.
"Mah lady, will you accompany me to dinner?" Sam asked grandly. Tabitha giggled softly, but took his hand, allowing him to escort her out the door.
Outside, she was surprised to see Hank's sports car, instead of Sam's beat up truck. She lifted an eyebrow, and asked "So what did you have to promise Dr. McCoy to get his baby?"
"Told him Ah'd do his monitor duty for a week." Sam said, grinning.
Tabitha lifted an eyebrow, and smiled back. "Am I really worth it to you?"
Sam surprised her by pulling her into his arms, and kissing her tenderly. "You're worth more to me then anything."
Tabitha sighed happily, and hugged him back tightly. "I love you so, so, so much Sam Guthrie."
Sam grinned, and helped her into the car. He quickly bounced around to the other side of the car, and slid in. Tabitha watched him with loving eyes, and placed her hand on his knee when he started the car. Sam covered it with his own, squeezing gently.
They drove to a small café near the edge of town overlooking a beautiful lake, a place they had been to once or twice before. Sam again helped her out of the car, and continued to hold her hand as they walked to the entrance.
They were quickly seated at a table next to a window looking out over the lake, and their menus where brought. Tabitha looked up from hers, and caught Sam gazing at her with a peculiar look in his eye. She smiled at him, reaching across the table to hold his hand in hers, rubbing her fingers across his knuckles.
Sam looked down at their linked hands and swallowed hard. "Tabitha…Ah love you so much, and Ah--"
Their waiter, a portly man with a warm smile, cut him off. "Good evening sir. Would you and your lovely wife care to order?"
To Tabitha's surprise, Sam didn't correct the man on the nature of their relationship. They both quickly placed their orders, and by the time they were done, Sam's half finished sentence was forgotten.
Their food was brought quickly, and they ate. They bantered back and forth through the meal, joking and teasing each other. Every once in awhile Tabitha would catch Sam looking at her with that peculiar look in his eyes. He never said anything, just watched her with eyes as warm as a fire on a freezing night.
After their plates had been taken, the band began to play a soft, beautiful song. Tabitha brightened, and smiled at Sam. "Sam…would you dance with me?"
Sam looked uncertain for a minute, then nodded, escorting her onto the floor. She wrapped her arms around his neck, and laid her head on his chest. He wrapped his arms around her waist, and the slowly began to sway to the song.
I've seen the seven wonders of the world I've seen the beauty of diamonds and pearls But they ain't nothin' baby Your love amazes me
Sam stared into Tabitha's eyes, and softly began to sing along with them, his eyes never leaving her face. Tabitha smiled up at him, her own eyes once more shimmering with tears.
I've seen a sunset that would make you cry And colors of a rainbow reaching 'cross the sky The moon in all its phases, but Your love amazes m Don't you ever doubt this love of mine You're the only one for me You give me hope, you give reason You give me something to believe in forever faithfully, your love amazes me
I've prayed for miracles that never came I got down on my knees in the pouring rain But only you could save me Your love amazes me
Tabitha took up the words to this part, having heard the song played before on the radio. Sam watched her with eyes that looked they might also shed some tears.
Don't you ever doubt this love of mine You're the only one for me You give me hope, you give me reason You give me something to believe in Forever faithfully, your love amazes me.Your love Your love amazes me
Your love amazes me I got down on my knees Your love Your love amazes me
Only you
"Only you." Sam repeated, whispering in Tabitha's ear. She responded by pressing her lips tightly to his, kissing him as deeply as she dared. He tightened his embrace around her, pulling her to his body. They kissed for several more seconds before they finally parted.
After they paid their bill, Tabitha surprised Sam for the first time that day by dragging him down to the lake. The moon shone brightly in the heavens, it's silvery white light bathing everything. Tabitha leaned against the man she loved, enjoying the sound of the water on the shore and the soft intake of breath.
Sam watched her with eyes that shone in pure light, and opened his mouth to speak. Tabitha cut him off before he could say anything.
"Don't say anything Sam…let's just live in this perfect moment, for just a second." Tabitha asked, looking up into his eyes. He smiled and nodded, and held her tightly.
Finally, the chill in the air got to Tabitha, and she trembled lightly. Sam noticed and pulled off his jacket and wrapped it around her shoulders, allowing his arm to stay about her shoulders. Tabitha leaned against him, enjoying the warmth she felt inside from being with the man she loved.
They were walking back toward the car when Tabitha noticed something out of the corner of her eyes. Brightening, she grabbed Sam's arm and tugged over toward an old playground of sort. Sam chuckled and followed her.
When they got there, Tabitha settled down in one of the swings and began to swing back and forth. "I use to love to swing."
"Not me. Ah preferred the slide." Sam said, seating in the swing next to Tabitha. She smiled at him, and stopped the momentum of the swing.
"Oh, did you?" Tabitha asked, leaning forward to Sam.
"Ah did." Sam agreed, leaning to kiss her gently on the mouth. They kissed for another minute, letting their feelings sweep them away for a moment.
After they broke, Tabitha grinned and leapt up from the swing, and grabbed Sam's arm. "Come on, come on!" She begged, dragging him to where the slide stood.
Sam laughed, and again followed her. Tabitha shimmed up the steps of the ladder, and Sam followed her, still laughing at her youthful exuberance. Tabitha turned around to see what he was laughing at, and found herself at the receiving end of a warm kiss.
"Ah love you so much." Sam told her, still holding onto the sides of the ladder.
"I love you too." Tabitha said, sitting at the top of the slide, facing Sam. He grinned, and jumped down from the ladder, and beckoned for her to, too. She did, and looked at him strangely.
"Ah always wanted to be on one knee when Ah asked this." Sam told her, kneeling down.
Tabitha gasped, suddenly guessing what he was going to ask. He grinned at her, and pulled a small velvet box form his pocket. Opening it, he showed Tabitha a small diamond ring sparkling in the moonlight. Tabitha began to cry, tears of happiness slipping down her cheeks.
"Tabitha Smith, Ah love you. Ah will always love you, and Ah would be honored if you would be mah wife. Will you?" Sam asked formally, his own eyes shining with tears.
"Oh God, yes! Yes!" Tabitha sobbed, throwing herself into Sam's arms and kissing him so hard he fell over backwards. She lay on top of him, still kissing his face.
"Good thing. Ah've been trying to get up the nerve to ask you all day." Sam said, laughing as a few tears slipped down his own cheeks.
"Oh Sam!" Tabitha wept, kissing him on the lips.
Sam laughed again, and kissed her even harder, the joy in his heart singing in his veins. Tabitha sobbed into his jacket, her own happiness taking the form of tears and slipping down her cheeks.
